At Tomb of the Unknown ....Guard Silences Disrespectful Crowd

Tomb of the Unknown Guard Silences Disrespectful Crowd

ARLINGTON, Va. - Video posted online shows a guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington, Virginia silencing a crowd after laughter is heard.

Usually the guards patrol in silence.

However, after the disruption, the solder stops and addresses the onlookers.

"It is requested that everyone maintains a level of silence and respect," he said as he stopped in stance.

The crowd fell silent.

The guard continued his patrol.

No other disruptions were reported that day.

Is there any ground more hallowed, sacred and deserving of respectful comportment than Arlington or any American military cemetery monument from here to Normandy ?

Yet what you see in this video has so sadly come to be quite commonplace.

I was at the 2008 Veterans' Day ceremony at Arlington and witnessed the same.

I saw children running between the rows of tombstones with their adult parents letting them do so like it was a playground or a visit to a national park.

I witnessed adults waiting to see President Bush speak, leaning on tombstones.

Worst of all I witnessed an educated lawyer in front of me waiting to file in, put out his cigarette with his shoe right there.

Unbelievable.

But then of course respectful comportment starts by example.

This President we have now, just like Clinton, is either late or sends the Vice President to Arlington on Memorial Day in May or Veterans Day in November. Far too many Democrats have little regard for the military past, present, living or dead.

It's all a sad and disappointing sign of the times.

Hate to end on a negative note.

We just love those waving flags above, Wild Thing.

And that's why we love you.

Carlos - I sure hope those idiots you witnessed are still the minotity of Americans.

Seeing this video reminds me of, "en garde, parry, thrust, recover". The School of the Bayonet. Also horizontal butt stroke and vertical butt stroke. It would be an excellent lesson to the laughing bastard(s) if this member of the Third Infantry Regiment, "The Old Guard", had employed these basic maneuvers on the giggling idiot.
