Obama and Pelosi Think It's Fair For People To Go To Jail For Not Buying Into Socialized Medicine

Komo 4 News (ABC Seattle) Reporter Shomari Stone Asks House Speaker Nanci Pelosi about the following:

KOMO News reporter Shomari Stone: Do you think it’s fair to send people to jail who don’t buy health insurance?

Pelosi: …The legislation is very fair in this respect.

According to Committee On Ways & Means Republicans Ranking Member, Dave Camp, "the non-partisan Joint Committee on Taxation (JCT) confirming that the failure to comply with the individual mandate to buy health insurance contained in the Pelosi health care bill (H.R. 3962, as amended) could land people in jail. The JCT letter makes clear that Americans who do not maintain acceptable health insurance coverage and who choose not to pay the bills new individual mandate tax (generally 2.5% of income), are subject to numerous civil and criminal penalties, including criminal fines of up to $250,000 and imprisonment of up to five years."

Pelosi confronted on Health Care being a jobs killer and will drive us back into more recession
Camera is unsteady in this video.

Journalist Scott St. Clair - The Piper - asks Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi about the negative impact her health care bill will have on jobs and the economy. 10.2 percent unemployment, a $1.2 to 1.5 trillion cost, unfavorable polling numbers, and experts predicting it will kill jobs and may drive us back into a deep recession. Her answer? Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah - a stump speech with something about it being "the fault of the previous administration."

Interview with the President: Jail Time for Those without Health Care Insurance?

Political Punch
Jack Tapper

Obama said that penalties are appropriate for people who try to “free ride” the health care system but stopped short of endorsing the threat of jail time for those who refuse to pay a fine for not having insurance.

“What I think is appropriate is that in the same way that everybody has to get auto insurance and if you don't, you're subject to some penalty, that in this situation, if you have the ability to buy insurance, it's affordable and you choose not to do so, forcing you and me and everybody else to subsidize you, you know, there's a thousand dollar hidden tax that families all across America are -- are burdened by because of the fact that people don't have health insurance, you know, there's nothing wrong with a penalty.”

Under the House bill those who can afford to buy insurance and don’t’ pay a fine. If the refuse to pay that fine there’s a threat – as with a lot of tax fines – of jail time. The Senate removed that provision in the Senate Finance Committee.

Mr. Obama said penalties have to be high enough for people to not game the system, but it’s also important to not be “so punitive” that people who are having a hard time find themselves suddenly worse off, thus why hardship exemptions have been built in the legislation.

“I think the general broad principle is simply that people who are paying for their health insurance aren't subsidizing folks who simply choose not to until they get sick and then suddenly they expect free health insurance. That's -- that's basic concept of responsibility that I think most Americans abide by,” Mr. Obama said, “penalties are appropriate for people who try to free ride the system and force others to pay for their health insurance.”

The President said that he didn’t think the question over the appropriateness of possible jail time is the “biggest question” the House and Senate are facing right now.

Wild Thing's comment........

Are you kidding me?!
This so-called smart man, a supposed “Constitutional scholar”, uses the simpleton’s analogy that the requirement for auto-insurance is the “same” as government requiring everyone to purchase health insurance. Last I checked, no human being was ever born with a motorized vehicle attached to his backside. Also, last I checked, Americans are born with certain inalienable rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

How does making it a requirement to purchase something as a requisite to life, in order to be free from penalization (liberty), in any way, shape or form in-line with “truths” of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States of America?

Obama’s argument doesn’t wash.

The government (state of CA) mandates me to have auto insurance to protect OTHER drivers, vehicles and property due to accidents caused by ME. That’s why I’m required to carry liability insurance but collision (coverage for my vehicle damage caused by me) is optional.

If I don’t have health insurance, I’m not hurting anyone else if I get sick.

You only have to acquire car insurance if you are CHOOSING to buy a car. If I don't own a car the government doesn't make me buy auto insurance. Same thing for homeowners...How many homeless people does the government force to buy homeowners insurance??

LOL Oh my gosh look at this. .............. Nancy Pelosi wants to give us their socialized medicine as a Christmas present..................I guess we were really, really, bad this year! Hey Nancy, take me off your Christmas list. I don’t want your stinking health care plan. Nancy better stay away from our chimney.

I have been astute on reading of just what this administration and the liberal Americans have for priorities. I feel like a damned fool for doing my best to stay totally off the dole. I don't use medicare, foodstamps, welfare, and I don't have an Obamaphone. At 69 years old, I stay healthy, and live on my Social Security Check and my wherewithall, (don't tell the gummint about my wherewithall, they'll tax it or cripple me), relying on my military service for my medical care at the VA outpatient clinic. I get great care there, and feel that my time in the military has prepaid my premium there. I can see that I would be much better off, (at their measure), if I were to just hit the welfare office for my piece of the Obamapie.
In reality, I am far wealthier than these liberal assholes, knowing that I make it on my own, and can hold my head high when daylight comes. I answer only to myself and my conscience, feeling more free than any welfare riding liberal.
My position is such that I am able to put more than 100% of the profits from my little online apparel shop, (see my homepage), back into the community, mostly in support of the 6th RANGER Training Bn, here on Eglin AFB. As yet I haven't had to tap that to support myself. With Obamacare, who knows. I would rather go to jail for refusing than to stop putting that income in the hands of our patriots.
BTW- I won't give a damned dime to a loser, non-productive slacker. They have the gummints ear, not mine. Welfare beggars can starve, users can pawn their flatscreen TV if they are hungry, they can hit the labor pool if they need more, but don't even beg from me! Cold? They are cold for not wiping their own asses.

Give us a link Frankly.

WildThing. Well written comments. But I don't assume that eventually, when the government sells all the cars, that you won't have to have auto insurance even if you don't own one. In fact, I'll bet that you will be forced to buy it, presumably to protect yourself from drivers. It logically follows everything else that these fools are ramming down our throats. I could list a lot of other things that are coming. Pregnancy insurance? Alcoholism/drug addiction insurance? Relationship insurance? Hurt feelings insurance? Divorce insurance?

If I weren't so damn old I would have a bright future in Obama's government. LOL!

Let's talk numbers here.

About 50% of the Citizens of this Country say that they are against this boondoggle and are completely satisfied with their present plan.

If the majority of these people, you and I included, refused the Insurance and refused to pay the fine, the courts would be clogged for years. We are talking millions of people here.

You want to fight the system? Thats how you do it. Refuse the coverage and refuse to pay the fine.

I'm betting that if that happens, none of the rest will happen either.I'm willing to take that chance, are you?

Strength in numbers always prevails.

At last count, and it is not done yet, the House Health Care bill, creates 111, One hundred and eleven new Bureaucracies, all the better to screw with the people.

So they are going to lock up Americans who won't buy their Health Care. Shit, they are cutting it from us Seniors, that probably mean 10 dollar band ades.

According to Congress Pope from Texas that if the bill does pass and signed, he and a few other Congressmen are filing for a hearing with the Supreme Court. Because most of this bill is unconstitutional. There is no way the government can force you to buy anything...

Welcome to true socialism/Marxism my friends. obama and Pelosi and their group of elites want to control every aspect of America and all aspects of individual American's lives. They will have their monstrous, all encompassing programs to "help us". If you don't comply or refuse them, then it is off to the gulag or debtors prison.

Buy more ammo.

Well, I guess they'll just have to build more prisons. (are there no workhouses, no prisons? Sounds a lot like Ebenezer Scrooge if you ask me).

They just LOVE breaking the law, don't they?

I just noticed that picture of Peelosely. She actually has her eyes closed, she must be a shot of two low on the botox, makes ya wonder what else has slammed shut.

Posted by: Mark at November 12, 2009 02:26 PM

So, I guess they will be locking up a lot of the illegals cause they sure wont be buying any insurance. Oh, wait one, think I saw in the bill that illegals were exempt.

If you don't have auto insurance your car does not go on the road. If you stop paying the premium then you surrender your plates and don't drive an uninsured car. No parrallel. He is a lying dipshit.
