North Korea Launches Rocket, Defying World Pressure

North Korea Launches Rocket, Defying World Pressure

FOX news

North Korea defiantly carried out a provocative rocket launch Sunday that the U.S., Japan and other nations suspect was a cover for a test of its long-range missile technology.

Liftoff took place at 10:30 p.m. EDT Saturday from the coastal Musudan-ri launch pad in northeastern North Korea, the South Korean government said. In Washington, the State Department also confirmed the launch.

The U.S., South Korea, Japan and others suspect the launch is a guise for testing the regime's long-range missile technology — one step toward eventually mounting a nuclear weapon on a missile capable of reaching Alaska and beyond.

They contend the launch violates a U.N. Security Council resolution barring the regime from ballistic missile activity, part of efforts to force North Korea to shelve its nuclear program and halt long-range missile tests.

"We look on this as a provocative act," U.S. State Department spokesman Fred Lash said.

The rocket flew over Japan and landed in the Pacific Ocean, the Japanese broadcaster NHK said, citing its government.

Wild Thing's comment........

Fox is not covering this much right now as I am posting this. I only caught one thing on FOX.
Geraldo is cheering for It’s success! Why doesn’t he move to Venezuela, Cuba or NKorea? He’d be so much happier there!

CNN has a little more. I don't like CNN but sometimes it has a story happening that the others don't.

And no one cared but us conservatives. Ain't that sad? Why is it okay for a rogue nation to be aiming missiles at us and our allies? For no reason! And especially at this time of year-today is Palm Sunday and next Sunday is Easter. People must have lost their priorities-their ducks are NOT in a row. I care what happens to my nation. I grew up hearing about all the wonderful things we did during WW2. Why can't we be like that again? Why is everyone so afraid to be an American?

Well, as usual, so much for UN resolutions. So much for threats by the US and Japan. North Korea got away with their rocket launch. At least we now know what their capabilities are.

This incident also pretty much tells Iran that we are not going to do anything to stop their nuclear arming program. The world just got that much more dangerous.

The United States now considers this launch a 'Provocative Act'. That's really telling them, what for.

Damn I wonder how many countries are going to not pursue their Nuclear Ambitions now. This is a provacative act. Unbelievable.

Lynn, yes it sure is sad.
Several peoople on TV today said they are
very curious to see how Obama is going to
handle these kinds of things. I would not
hold my breath.

Tom, I agree, this was a test for Obama and he
has not come down hard at all about this.

Iran is watching and probably very happy how
weak Obama is.

Mark, that is the word for this, provacative act.
Bush was able to hold this little idiot off but now with Obama and how weak he is, they knew they could do it.
