Obama Strikes Back at Budget Critics

Obama’s $3.6 trillion budget proposal includes $770 billion in tax cuts over 10 years for the “middle class”, America’s term for everyone from the moderately well-off to the working poor; $150 billion for funding “green” energy sources, and $634 billion towards the introduction of universal healthcare.

Obama strikes back at budget critics

Washington Times

Obama on Saturday struck back aggressively at critics of his $3.6 trillion budget proposal, casting himself as a populist crusader whose "sweeping change" has angered Washington's entrenched special interests, and promised to fight them.

"I realize that passing this budget won't be easy. Because it represents real and dramatic change, it also represents a threat to the status quo in Washington," Mr. Obama said in his weekly video and radio address.

Mr. Obama's language was combative and confrontational, as he promised to fight for "American families."

"I know these steps won't sit well with the special interests and lobbyists who are invested in the old way of doing business, and I know they're gearing up for a fight as we speak. My message to them is this: So am I," he said.

Since he unveiled his budget blueprint on Thursday, the reaction in the financial markets and among the business community, not to mention the Republican party, has been decidedly negative.

Influential conservative economist Lawrence Kudlow wrote Friday that Mr. Obama was proposing "anti-growth" tax hikes that make "absolutely no sense" and are intended to promote a "left-wing social vision."

Mr. Obama, he said, was "declaring war on investors, entrepreneurs, small businesses, large corporations, and private-equity and venture-capital funds."

One day after announcing that U.S. combat troops would leave Iraq in 18 months, the president's weekly address was his first major response to budget criticisms. He portrayed critics as fat cats and power brokers who have enriched themselves at the cost of every day Americans.

"The system we have now might work for the powerful and well-connected interests that have run Washington for far too long, but I don't. I work for the American people," he said.
Mr. Obama identified the insurance industry, banks and student lenders, and oil and gas companies as part of the cabal opposing the new budget.
The president, much like his predecessor in the White House, vowed not to limit himself to small or limited measures.
"I didn't come here to do the same thing we've been doing or to take small steps forward, I came to provide the sweeping change that this country demanded when it went to the polls in November," he said.

The president's language did include one concession to criticisms. During Tuesday's address to Congress he said he had identified "two trillion dollars in savings over the next decade" in the budget.

But many pointed out that the "savings" came from tax hikes on those making more than $200,000 and families making more than $250,000, and from cutting Iraq war spending that critics said was never going to happen anyway.

On Saturday, Mr. Obama continued to use the $2 trillion figure, but called it "deficit reductions" instead of "savings."

Wanting Obama to Fail! This is sooooo good! I agree Rush, I want all he tries to do to fail too. No way do I want a socialist, marxist America. ~ Wild Thing

Wild Thing's comment..........

I would say he did more like lashing out than “striking back”.

"I know these steps won't sit well with the special interests and lobbyists who are invested in the old way of doing business"

Actually it sits pretty well with them. This budget is a lobbyist’s dream and any Washingtonian’s dream. It enriches their power beyond their wildest imaginations. The people are the ones that are outraged. Obama “calling us out” again. Must be the Chicago way! He wants a street fight!

"I know they're gearing up for a fight as we speak. My message to them is this: So am I," he said.

Who did he run and hide behind after he said this?

Hussein sounds more like an ACORN activist that a sitting US president.

He’s wrong. It’s that simple. Big government always fails, socialism always fails, and left-leaning people like Obama are incapable of learning that.

Obama's middle class tax cuts are suppose to start in April with everybody getting $13 per week more in their checks. What people don't realize is that even though they're paying $13 less per week in income taxes, the tax tables which we use to file haven't changed. All Obama did was change the rate of withholding, not the rate at which your taxed at. Come tax filing time, people will be paying back that "extra" they got to take home. Unfortunately most people will be too stupid to realize it.

Rush was excellent (even more so than usual).
I loved when he was talking about people not being used to seeing Liberals mocked, he said:
"Get used to it!"
heh!
This is class warfare, no bones about it. I also watched the State of the Black Union yesterday. It's on CSPAN and if you want to get a good look at that part of the voting block, I highly suggest it. Entitlement mentality is alive and well. So is the pervading belief that rich white republicans have stolen wealth from the poor and hate all people of color.
It's gets back to government schools and their teaching Progressive propaganda - seems no one under 30 has a clue why Socialism is a bad thing. If you don't know history, there's no way you can learn from it.
Keep folks ignorant, Divide and Conquer.

BobF., thank you, I think many just don't understand, they get all excited when they hear they are getting something and then they don't do any futher reading or listening to find out any more about it. Then too lilke you said, there are just plain stupid people that don't want to know the truth even if it hits them over the head so to speak.

Yankeemom, I agree, Rush was sooo good. I loved how zapped the liars and those wanting to destroy our country. LOL

Thanks too, I will plan on watching the State of the Black Union also.

All the deficrats are thrilled with the new spending. Taking from sector and giving it to another. Their hate for the rick is classic. But with all these taxes the 'Rich' will only take it for so long, they they will downsize, move out of town, or close shop all together. They are not rich because they are stupid. So where are all these jobs going to come from.

He's redistributing the wealth alright and bankrupting the country in the process.

Jack, thanks for the video. Yes Obama sure is a puppet and molded from a young age by communists.

Mark, your absolutely right. The rich did not get wealthy by being stupid and they will fight back by doing the things you said.
