Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence Sues the Bush Administration

WASHINGTON

The Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence sued the Bush administration yesterday in hopes of stopping a new policy that would allow people to carry concealed, loaded guns in most national parks and wildlife refuges.

"The Bush administration's last-minute gift to the gun lobby, allowing concealed semiautomatic weapons in national parks, jeopardizes the safety of park visitors in violation of federal law," said Paul Helmke, the group's president. "We should not be making it easier for dangerous people to carry concealed firearms in our parks."

An Interior Department spokeswoman refused to comment on the lawsuit, saying the department does not discuss pending litigation.

It's not the only lawsuit over last-minute regulatory changes that the Bush administration wants to achieve.

Yesterday, California Attorney General Jerry Brown announced that his state is suing the Bush administration to block changes in regulations that are intended to reduce input from federal scientists.

"Unfortunately, the Bush administration has had an antipathy to using sound science," Brown said. "This is the latest assault as Bush goes out the door. It's intolerable."

The lawsuit was filed late Monday in U.S. District Court in San Francisco.

The Interior Department issued the revised rules this month. They allow federal agencies to issue permits for mining, logging and similar activities without a review from federal biologists if the agencies' research shows that the project will not affect plants and animals.

The changes also block agencies from using the Endangered Species Act to consider the effects of greenhouse-gas emissions on ecosystems when reviewing projects such as new roads or coal plants on federal land.

Brown is asking the court to block the new rules, which could give the incoming administration of President-elect Barack Obama time to review them.

Wild Thing's comment........

I can't stand liberals. They want to control us, from the cradle to the grave. Now that Obama is taking over they smell victory. They are totally worthless!

What the heck is wrong with people about guns. I just don't get it. Do these people not have a brain? Good grief! These Brady people sure hate the 2nd Amendmment.

Comments

Is this the same Sarah Brady who went nuts when her hubby James took a bullet in the head for President Reagan? (that was his job anyway--protect the President at all costs) and said that if we were to be good socialists, we have to give up our guns?
I'm sorry her hubby got hurt and disabled for life, but it wasn't the gun or the bullet--it was John Hinckley Jr. The nut loose behind the gun.
She needed mental help and didn't get it and since she was mad, she took it out on everyone.
I do believe, though, that if you're going to have a weapon, please learn to use it responsibly and use it for it's intended purposes. Join the NRA and take lessons. Store the gun and the bullets separately and NEVER, NEVER, NEVER leave it where a child or someone of diminished capacity can get at it.

said Paul Helmke, the group's president. "We should not be making it easier for dangerous people to carry concealed firearms in our parks."

The people he is referring to are normal citizens with a CCP. So from his statement anyone with a CCP is unstable and should not be allowed to carry a weapon.

What don't they get about this, and i's not Rocket-Science, but they insist ordinary people are not credible or responsible eough to carry a concealed weapon for protection against wild animals or criminals.

Just look at DC where all guns were banned crime went through the roof, and ONLY criminals had the guns.

I don't think it's so much about taking Guns away as it is about taking Liberties away, a lot of them, guns being one of them. They can always make a case for guns so they have their top priority on their list of rights they want to confiscate.

Challenge, can anyone prove this wrong?:–

1. Constitution Article II requires USA President to be “natural born citizen”.

2. BHO’s website admits his dad was Kenyan/British, not American, citizen when BHO was born.

3. BHO is therefore not a “natural born citizen” (irrespective of Hawaiian birth or whether he may be a 14th Amendment “citizen” of USA) — as confirmed in the Senate’s own McCain qualification resolution agreed to by BHO.

4. Supreme Court has already docketed two upcoming conferences, 1/9/09 and 1/16/09 — between dates Congress counts electoral votes (1/8/09) and Presidential inauguration (1/20/09) — to address Berg Case and fashion relief on BHO’s eligibility to be President.

5. Since no facts are in dispute, Supreme Court rules on Summary Judgment to enjoin BHO’s inauguration as President.

6. Therefore, BHO is not inaugurated as President.

7. Vice President Elect Biden is inaugurated Acting President under the 20th Amendment to serve until new President is determined — the procedure for which determination to be set out by Congress and/or the Supreme Court so long as in conformance with the Constitution.

Just to celebrate our last year of freedom, 2008, I bought several more boxes of ammunition yesterday.

It's amazing to me that JUST NOW and not even so much (even conservatives are poo pooing it) that this birth certificate, natural born citizen stuff is getting attention. I've been reading about investigations since before the primaries, but it was almost never mentioned before the Nov. election. It's maddening what a pass this jackass has gotten.

There are so many things he's gotten away with, I think I'm almost numb to them. Here's a good one: remember when he said his white uncle came home from liberating Auchwitz and went up to the attic for a month? Did he friggin dream that or something? lol He was invented and reinvented so many times, I doubt even he knows who he is anymore.

That being said, I don't hate the guy. I can't, it's too heavy a load to bear. But I hope he gets every thing that's coming to him (and his little mob in the cabinet, too).

And those damn liberals, too. Gee, don't you think they should amend the dictionary to define "liberal" as "intolerant". In fact, I think that's my 2009 name for these idiots. Were their moms at the mall when they were forming thought? Is this the Nintendo way?

Defies common sense.

MESSAGE TO EVERY MEMBER OF CONGRESS:

When counting the electoral votes, either Congress finds by 1/8/09 that Obama, not being an Article II “natural born citizen”, fails to qualify as President whereupon Biden becomes the full fledged President under 3 USC 19 (free to pick his own VP such as Hillary) or thereafter defers to the Supreme Court to enjoin Obama’s inauguration with Biden becoming only Acting President under the 20th Amendment until a new President is duly determined.

The preferable choice, at least for the Democrats, should seem obvious.

Lynn, yes it is the same Sarah Brady your right.

What you said is very true, guns are no problem at all. It is those that do not respect what they can do that do not take care and protect children and teach older ones to respect the gun and it is not a toy etc.

Mark..... "Just look at DC where all guns were banned crime went through the roof, and ONLY criminals had the guns.".......

Ditto that thank you for pointing that out.

I agree with you too about this Mark....."it is about taking Liberties away, a lot of them, guns being one of them"

Eden, great comment, thank you, yess it is getting more intense about the Birth certificate. Before Nov. 4th, there were a few lawsuits out there about it but it was not mentioned as much as it is now. Then after Nov. 4th it kind of exploded into more and more lawsuits. I think there are over 20 now.
