Actor Robert Duvall Blasts Palin Critics

Actor Duvall Blasts Palin Critics

abc news

ABC News' Imtiyaz Delawala Reports: Introducing Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin at a GOP fundraiser Monday, actor Robert Duvall blasted conservatives who have criticized the McCain-Palin ticket in recent days, calling conservative columnist George Will a "super-nerd" and former Wisconsin governor Tommy Thompson a "block of wood".

At an RNC fundraiser in McLean, VA, Duvall introduced Palin for the third time since her nomination to the Republican ticket, taking the opportunity to accuse Republicans critical of the McCain campaign as giving "credence to the other side."

"It bothers me that certain people in the Republican Party are attacking the McCain-Palin ticket, like super-nerd George...What's his name?” Duvall asked, prompting a few attendees to laugh and shout out George Will. “George...George, I can't even think. George Will," Duvall said, referring to the Washington Post columnist who has been critical of Palin.

The legendary actor then attacked former Wisconsin Governor Tommy Thompson, who campaigned with McCain last Friday in La Crosse, Wisconsin. Thompson had expressed unhappiness with the McCain campaign in an article that appeared in Sunday's New York Times. Asked if he was happy with Sen. McCain's campaign, Thompson told the paper, "No," adding, "I don't know who is."

"Tommy Thompson of uh, that original block of wood, from Wisconsin," Duvall responded at the fundraiser. "He attacked the team today. I mean, that's like being, instead of Monday morning quarterbacking, it’s during the game. It's Friday and Saturday night quarterbacking. It's like giving credence to the other side.”

The rhetoric was a departure from recent days, where Palin has toned down her criticism of Democratic presidential nominee Sen. Barack Obama. Duvall used no such caution in his remarks, saying of Obama, "we gotta keep this guy out of the White House."

Duvall then introduced Palin, who quickly thanked him "for that very kind introduction"

Wild Thing's comment..........

Duvall is right LOL Tommy Thompson is indeed a block of wood. Duvall did good and he also introduced Sarah at the New Mexico Rally that I posted about.

This is the first presidential election that I opted NOT to $END the GOP a dime of contribution money. I did mail Mac & Sarah $10 for the autographed photo I received. In 2001, the GOP had it all - majority wise - in the Oval Office, Senate & House, and failed US!!!

I did just the opposite Darth. For the first time in years I sent a donation to the Republican presidential campaign the day McCain announced Sarah Palin as his running mate. It was my way of saying he finally did something right. I understand a lot of conservatives voted that day with their wallets.

The blue blood "conservatives" don't care for Sarah. She rose through the ranks rapidly and without their blessings. If she gets into office, they're likely some of the first to be in her sights since, as a woman, she'll clean house first before worrying about the outside trash.

I got one of those autographed pictures too and I also sent them some money because of Sarah.

Robert Duvall has my respect, he doesn't march to the lefthanded drums of Hollywood, he has served in the military and he has Christian values not to mention that he is conservative. Vote McCain not Hussein!!!

Yeah I like what Robert Duvall said, and got my respect when he called George Will a super nerd, he nailed him for sure. Talk about an arrogant putz Will is the epitome of Putz and arrogance.

Tom, I heard that too. When he told us about her, that day and I think for a solid week the donations were pouring in.

BobF, I agree I think she has it in her like she did in Alaska to clean up and clean out the bad and put in leadership on things good people.

That is wonderful about your getting a photo too.

Jack, DITTO that. Duvall I am not sure, but I think he also voted for Reagan and Bush. So he like a few others we know about have been Republican for awhile now.

Mark, giggle he sure is!!! I saw George Will in a video discussing back in the green room where they wait to go on the air. He was talking to Newt and saying how Sarah is a nice woman but no way does she qualify. grrrr Wnat a bunch of baloney.

PS: I'll give the autographed 8 x 10 to you WT if you want it. Mac has let me down so many times by NOT ENGAGING THE ENEMY and I feel that Sarah has more 'you know whats' than Mac does. You can have "The officer and a gentleman" and I'll take the Gunny pit-bull type anyday WT...! Again, Fred Thompson or Mitt should be at the top of this ticket!!

Darth, no thank you though that is ok. I was looking for one of just Sarah Palin. Darth you will have a chuckle with this. I typed photo of Sarah Palin into google and at eBay they are selling her photo there for hundreds of dollars. That is so stupid and I bet some idiot will buy it.

I love Sarah but to pay hundreds of dollar for a photo of anyone is so silly to me.

Thank you sooo much Darth for offereing about the photo you have, but it is ok honest. I agree with you so much about McCain.
