Angry Blair ‘disgusted’ With Iran

Tony Blair voiced his “disgust” with Iran last night after Tehran broadcast a second televised “confession” by a captured Royal Navy sailor, apologising for “trespassing” into Iranian waters.

A clearly angry British prime minister said the Iranians’ “manipulation” of the British prisoners would “fool no one”.

He insisted the crisis could only be resolved by the release of all 15 sailors and Royal Marines seized by the Iranians last Friday.

At the same time, Mr Blair appeared to be digging in for a prolonged stand-off — warning that Britain would have to show “patience” as well as “firmness and determination” in its handling of the crisis.

Certainly Tehran appeared to be in no mood to compromise. It followed the release of the footage of Royal Navy sailor Nathan Thomas Summers with a third letter purportedly written by Leading Seaman Faye Turney complaining that she had been “sacrificed” to British and US policies.

The letter also said the British detainees had received better treatment than Iraqi prisoners held by Britain and the US at Abu Ghraib.

In the latest footage, shown on Iran’s Arabic language station Al Alam, Mr Summers is shown saying: “I would like to apologise for entering your waters without any permission.” However there is a clear edit after the word “apologise”, suggesting the extract was spliced together from two separate clips.
In other clips, he said “We trespassed without permission”, before saying their treatment by the Iranians had been “very friendly” and he was “grateful” no harm had come to them.

He is also shown sitting alongside LS Turney — the one woman in the party — and another British serviceman identified as Royal Marine Adam Sperry.

Mr Blair, on a visit to Manchester, angrily denounced the broadcast of the latest footage.

“I really don’t know why the Iranian regime keep doing this. All it does is enhance people’s sense of disgust,” he said.
“Captured personnel being paraded and manipulated in this way doesn’t fool anyone. What the Iranians have to realise is that if they continue in this way, they will face increasing isolation.”

Iranian television has already shown a similar interview with LS Turney, as well as two letters she was said to have written to her family and to a “representative of the House of

Foreign Secretary Margaret Beckett, meeting EU ministers in Germany, said she was “quite horrified” by the latest footage which she denounced as “blatant propaganda”.

Wild Thing's comment.......

I think Churchill would be taking a stronger stand on this. He would be doing more then saying they needed to show “patience”.

WT Bear It All: Never negotiate with kidnappers.
Never negotiate with Iraniacs. Never negotiate with Islamomaniacs. Never negotiate with Russia's
Vlad 'KGB' Putin. Never negotiate with North Korea's Kim Jong 'Mentally' Il. Never negotiate with Osama bin Laden. Never negotiate with the PLO. Never negotiate with Hamas nor Hezbollah.

WT, do you see a pattern of REALITY here?

Also, NEVER give up. NEVER give in. NEVER surrender.
Itan made the first chess move, now where shall ours be to?

You have to give Handjob this--he's smart. But we have to be smarter.

Emargo? Nah. Get those sailors and marines out of there and turn the place to glass!

I'm thoroughly "disgusted" with the so called leaders we have. No matter what we do no one will be happy with us, so why not just take care of all the problems at once. I'm so PO'd I can't even think straight about all this right now.
I'm with Lynn, get out guys and gals out of there except for a few well-aimed carriers and bombers and have at it. So what if the mealy mouthed appeasers get their knickers all in a twist with us. They already are. Besides, as I watch those young Brits being used and abused, I don't really like the rest of the world right now.

The weeds in the backyard are not going to stand a chance today.

Maybe if we make an example of Iran, others will back down.
It's like training a puppy--you have to knock it on the nose to make it realize he can't go doody on the carpet.
Or when a child reaches for something they shouldn't, you gently smack it's hand and tell it firmly NO, so it learns.
Time for a sleeping giant to awaken and see the world for what it really is. These terrorists are dangerous--you can't talk to them, you can't appease them.
Maybe by spanking Iran, the rest will realize we really do mean business and not to mess with America and her allies.
We're very tenacious. We will NEVER SURRENDER!!!!
Even the soldiers in the Wizard of Oz realized the error of their ways when their leader, the Wicked Witch of the West was melted and destroyed.

What can I say that hasn't already been said? The commander of that ship never offered even a token resistance and Blair should have reacted with an all out strike against Tehran, he has shown his hand, like Jimmah Carter's, it's weak. Even the Israeli's have shown the same temerity toward Iran. There is but one answer, do it now before they are fully armed with nukes.

Prior to Desert Storm, Iraq had the third largest army in the world. Their equipment was state of the art Soviet manned by well trained troops. Before we even sent ground troops into Iraq, Airpower had already decimated Iraq's military, gaining Air Supremacy in a matter of days.

Their is no need to send one troop into Iran, not when we have two carrier battle groups in the Persian Gulf and B-2's can strike any target in Iran from Missouri.

The day the Iranian military can do this, then we need to worry.

Mark just told me that Feinstein is blaming the Iranian kidnapping on Bush. The woman is obviously demented.

Where is the resolve and response that the Brit's had in response to the Falklands issue? Is American the only nation that hasn't gotten tired of standing up for itself?

The usual knee-jerk reaction from you people. Shoot first, ask questions later,
solve nothing.
The idea that you would destroy a city of seven million innocent people over this
incident is sickening and abhorrent.

Darth, I agree, I have never believed in negotiating with kidnappers.Thanks.

Lynn, yes, I lvoe that speech by Churchill. I wish Blair would listen to it.

Posted by: Wild Thing at April 2, 2007 12:42 AM

Yankeemom, I feel badly for these Brits, they have got to be wondering why their country is not reacting in a harsher way.

Iran has had way too mamy dates set to deal with them. It is almost like the world is waiting for Israel to take care of it and if that happens we had better be right beside Israel when it happens. Side by side the whole way.

Posted by: Wild Thing at April 2, 2007 12:45 AM

Lynn, good one!!

I have had it with Iran and their threats, their not wanting to co-operate with the USA and now with England. Enough is enough.

Posted by: Wild Thing at April 2, 2007 12:51 AM

Jack, your right, it has to be done asap. Not more of this wait and see stuff. Or it will be too late. Iran knows the many dates we have set meant nothing because we kept moving them to later dates. They are laughing at us and they are laughing at England too.

sigh

Bob, thanks for the link. I bet we could do the whole thing with Iran and not send one soldier on the ground. Let them have it all from the air.

Posted by: Wild Thing at April 2, 2007 12:54 AM

Rhod, oh my gosh, I had not heard that about Feinstein. I agree Rhod she sure is demented. Thank you for telling us.

Gregor, your so right, it seems we are the only one.
