A Great Song Of The Vietnam War Written and Sung by SFC Jim Tolbert

A great song of the Vietnam War written and sung by SFC Jim Tolbert, who served multiple tours in Vietnam with the 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne). "Purple Heart" was never played nationwide, but it was played in Vietnam and also on some local radio stations in the Ft. Bragg (Fayetteville) NC area circa 1967-68.
Although 40 years have passed, "Purple Heart" is still fondly remembered by many Special Forces soldiers of the Vietnam era.

Wild Thing's comment........

Here's some interesting facts on Vietnam Veterans. They were more educated, older and the overwhelming majority were volunteers.

This song was a big hit in the bars at Ft Bragg. Good song to listen to while getting drunk. Of course the Ballad of the Green Berets always stirred the emotions and was cause for another round of drinks.

Special Forces had a lot of talented men. One was Hank Cramer. Google his name and go to his website and click audio to hear his songs.

There is also an album of songs from the Vietnam War called "In Country".

Thank you Chrissie, this was too good not to share.
Great link Bob, thanks Tom, hadn't heard of Hank Cramer. Jim Tolbert wrote and sang at least 4 songs about the war and maybe ten more conventional songs. He left us far too early as did Barry Sadler.
