America Still Has Her Soul

Amazing National Anthem at Fenway Park - Crowd Helps Autistic Singer

It was Disability Awareness day and the folks at Fenway did a lot of great things for kids with is one who sang and when he got nervous the Fenway Faithful helped him out

I always get teary when I hear the anthem, and this one was very profound. Watch it all the way through, you will hear the audience join in, it is very powerful.

Contrast this with the ommission of the Anthem at last night's Monday Night Football game.

Anthem Skipped Before Monday Night Game

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Sports in America start with the national anthem. The Dolphins- Steelers game was an exception. Rushing to begin the nationally televised matchup following a 25- minute weather delay, the NFL chose to skip the anthem Monday night before Miami played Pittsburgh. The game started without any of the traditional pregame ceremonies, except the coin toss, and neither team was introduced on the public address system.

According to the Steelers, the NFL wanted the game to begin as soon as possible following the delay. Several more minutes would have been needed to set up a microphone and sound equipment at midfield, where the anthem is traditionally performed at Steelers games.

Why did they need a mike and sound equipment? Why not just make an announcement that anyone who wanted could stand up and sing the National Anthem?

This young man did just fine without any special equipment set up mid-field.

As a die-hard Yankee fan, this incident gave me a new respect for Boston and their fans.

that's what's great about America. and shame on the Steeler's management, that's what's wrong with America. singing or playing our national anthem is not dependent on convenience, it's a matter of pride and respect. there wouldn't be an America if it was inconvenient for those who have defended our great land to do so, there should be nothing that is inconvenient that gets in the way of paying homage to our great land.
bless those Boston fans, not only for the respect they paid to the United States, but for the respect they paid to that young man.

gregor, you would think that the Steelers, of all teams, would know better of the sacrafices made for this great nation by those who fought under its flag. Rocky Blyer, a Vietnam Vet who was wounded and wasn't suppose to walk again, fought his injury and returned to the Steelers to gain over 1,000 yards rushing for them. If any team should have told the NFL what they can do with their time schedule, it should have been the Steelers. Unfortunately the Steelers executives are "Tin Men".

Gregor it really had me in tears. Tears of pride in him and also in our country to hear the fans join in like that. I will remember this for a long time.

Good point WT and Patriots all. More and more, unless it's a hip hop or Hollyweirdo celeb or poop culture star singing the national anthem
(with a tele-prompter)in an All-Star or playoff type game, the television / cable tv execs choose to show commercials and black out the singing of the national anthem - EXCEPT FOR RED STATE NASCAR EVENTS!!! At least in Germany, both national anthems were played at soccer games and televised...for pride and nationalism! Ja vol!!
