Fast Food Workers Walk Out, Demand Excessive Wages

Fast Food Workers Walk Out, Demand Excessive Wages

New York fast-food employees joined thousands of colleagues from across the country in a Thursday strike aimed at boosting their salaries to $15 an hour — more than double the current minimum rate.

“I’m not going to stay quiet,” said Shaniqua Davis, 20, a Bronx resident and McDonald’s worker. “I’m going to continue to fight. … I’ve got a daughter to take care of. I struggle to make ends meet.”

Paying the bills is tough for employees who typically earn the minimum wage of $7.25 an hour. The nationwide walkout, set for 50 cities, is targeting chains like McDonald’s, Taco Bell and Wendy’s.

For the record, a $15 an hour wage is more than local EMT workers, substitute teachers and correct.

Another thing to consider as well......They do not understand, that if an employee is paid top dollar at these places where is there even any room to give that person a raise.

It is not easy for most people to find a job that pays $15/hr in this Ubama economy, and you will not get 40hrs/week. This is all instigated by the unions, particularly SEIU and United Food and Commercial Workers. The minimum wage is an arbitrary benchmark; increase the minimum wage and more people will be earning the minimum wage. Others will become alarmed and disgruntled because they are now closer to the minimum wage and will demand raises. Unions negotiate wage agreements based on a multiple of the minimum wage. This will lead to a wage/ price spiral that will kill the so-called recovery and drive more people into poverty. These folks have no recollection of the Carter 1970's, it would seem. Fast-food workers that still have jobs will earn more money but will no longer afford to buy a hamburger. The lack of economic knowledge in the USA is frightening. The Progressives thrive on this ignorance. They will gain power and union dues from those who still work, regardless of the fact that fewer people will be working. No wonder some people remain fast food workers for 21 years like those who were interviewed...
