Segments of the California National Guard were placed on alert Thursday night that they needed to be ready to mobilize immediately if called upon by communities affected by the power outage.

Massive power outage hits San Diego

SAN DIEGO

A major power outage hit San Diego County, Imperial County and parts of Orange County Thursday, leaving residents throughout the region without power.

The outage knocked out power at the Fox 5 studios at about 3:40 p.m.

San Diego Gas and Electric officials were scrambling to find out the cause of the outage. They said they would have a news conference when they have more information. The utility used Twitter to send the following message: “We understand power is out, we are working on the cause and solution. We do not have a restoration time yet”

The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department confirmed that its substations all over the county were without power. In addition, viewers from Chula Vista in the south to Oceanside in the north and as far east as Alpine called Fox 5 to report they were without power.

Fox 5 Facebook fans report that the outage has also affected Tijuana and parts of Orange County.

KTLA, Fox 5’s sister station in Los Angeles, reports that parts of Orange County are without power, but Los Angeles has not been affected.

Authorities said power was out in El Centro in Imperial County. KSWT-TV reported that power was out in Yuma, Ariz., although Phoenix had power.

Wild Thing's comment.....

WOW this is a huge area to go without power.

A frieind of mine in AZ, and said her’ power came back on . She said it was the strangest thing. She was watching tv, and Obama came on, and the second he opened his mouth to speak, they lost their power. She did find that kind of hilarious.

The News said some parts have been restored, but many areas are still without power...so not sure at this posting if all the areas have power now or not.

I wonder if maybe Arizona did shut off the power to California for its boycott of Arizona? That would be something if they did.

What do these people expect. PG@E has not been allowed to increase or modernize their equipment in almost 20 years. They have be trying to upgrade parts of their distriubtion system, and between the leftist and over bearing Government Regulations they have been stymied at every turn. They can't go through the mountains because of some stupid endangered Species, the Voltage they want to transmit is too high, yet everyone complains when the system crashes and these nitwits complain and whine when the power goes out. Where is all this marvelous solar power, that is so renewable and cheap. But these nitwits won't admit it wont work.

The Law of conservation of Energy says, " You don't get something for nothing." but the left still thinks there is still a thing as the Free Lunch.

Bob, I had not thought of that. They would have the power to do that if they wanted to. But this also effected AZ. so it hurt their people too.
