Democrat Rep. Wu (Oregon) Told To Resign Over Sex Scandal With Teen Daughter Of Longtime Friend and Campaign Donor

Oregonian

Pressure on Democratic Rep. David Wu, 56 years old, to resign intensified Saturday as leaders in his own party began confronting the embattled Oregon lawmaker over allegations that he had an unwanted sexual encounter last Thanksgiving with a young California woman.

Wu spent the day in private absorbing calls from party operatives and lawmakers in Oregon and Washington, D.C. Reaction ranged from public calls for his resignation and attacks on his character to more private conversation about what’s next for Wu.

The conversations were triggered by an incident first reported by The Oregonian on Friday in which Wu was involved in an unwanted and aggressive sexual encounter with the daughter of a longtime friend and campaign donor in California during a visit over Thanksgiving…

…The fallout Saturday from party leaders and opponents was a unified judgment that the seven-term member of the House had seriously jeopardized his ability to serve and could damage the party’s larger efforts in the 2012 election.

Among those contacting Wu was House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, who spoke with Wu by telephone on Saturday. The substance of the call was not disclosed. But a source with knowledge of the day’s conversations said a second party leader called Wu and urged him to resign.

In all, at least three senior party leaders in Washington spoke to Wu Saturday. Wu spent the day in Washington contemplating his future and had not come to a decision, several sources said.

Remember Sen Bob Packwood, the Senator from Oregon?

He was forced to resign, for having chased an aide/secretary around a desk. NOW, Barbara Boxer, and other feminists mounted a vicous campaign, that brought him down.

He was a Republican of course.

Now we have Rep. Wu, playing naughty with a teenager. Does anyone see Boxer and company, or any other Democratic leader raising a stink here?

In this country I believe that we still have Statuatory Rape laws, do we not? Doesn't this apply here? Or does that only apply to "other people", you know the common folk.

Double Standard, anyone?

Why do all the real Scumbags wind up as politicians. Republican or democrat doesn't make any difference. Seems like when the dregs of Society, realize there is no opportunity for them in the real world thats when they realize politics is there only option.

And we as the voter, should be ashamed for voting for these scumbags. Because we are the ones ultimately responsible for this mess.

Sean, I remember the Packwood thing. Thing that never gets mentioned is that when the woman told Packwood to back off; he did. Packwood also was a champion for woman's rights and supported feminist causes. Unfortunately Packwoods problem was that he had an "R" after his name. If he had a "D", he would still be in the Senate.

Thanks everyone and thanks Sean for reminding me about Packwood. I had forgotten about that.

I agree too about the double standard. And it does seem to happen more often from the left and for sure less is made about it most of the time.

Also I agree too, voters are responsible for putting people back in power over and over when they have shown to be horrible.
