Obama's Controversial Recess Appointments

.

.

The lame duck session may be over, but President Obama isn't done. On Wednesday, he announced 6 recess appointments:

James Cole, who Republican legislators have previously blocked due to his involvement with AIG, will be our next deputy attorney general.

William Boarman, former union leader, will head up the Government Printing Office.

Francis Ricciardone is the next ambassador to Turkey. Sam Brownback placed a hold on him without giving a public explanation.

Norman Eisen, former Special Counsel to the President for Ethics and Government Reform (how's that working out?) was appointed to be the next ambassador to the Czech Republic.

Matthew Bryza is our next ambassador to Azerbaijan.

Robert Ford will be the next ambassador to Syria.

.

The group 9/11 Families for a Safe and Strong America opposes Cole’s confirmation.

“Mr. Cole has gone on record opposing military commissions for any detainees, stating that military commissions are an inferior form of justice which do not provide defendants with adequate due process protections,” said Debra Burlingame, co-founder of the group, in a statement. “In light of the fact that the Obama administration continues to drag its feet on an announcement regarding the forum and venue for the trial of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and the other admitted 9/11 conspirators, Mr. Cole's nomination is an alarming signal. The public is overwhelmingly opposed to holding these trials in New York federal court. Clearly, the administration needs to hear from us again.”

Why You Should Care Deeply about James Cole’s Nomination to Deputy Attorney General

Family Security Matters

James Cole to be the Deputy Attorney General (DAG) at the the Department of Justice. This is a critically important position. While Attorney General Eric Holder is the nominal head of the Justice Department, it is the deputy attorney general who actually runs the day-to-day operations of the entire department. For instance, it was Mr. Holder who, as DAG during the Clinton administration, orchestrated the Sept. 1999 clemencies of 16 terrorists belonging to the FALN, a Puerto Rican separatist group that carried out 146 bombings which killed 9 people and maimed NYPD bomb squad officers. Mr. Holder also facilitated and pushed through the pardon of fugitive Marc Rich, who made billions of dollars engaging in illegal oil trades on behalf of Iranian ayatollahs. Today, the DAG has a pivotal role in formulating and executing decisions dealing with the policy issues surrounding the capture, detention, interrogation and prosecution of suspected Islamic terrorists.

Wild Thing's comment........

Obama is dismantling the national security infrastructure put in place post-911 bit by bit.

Debra Burlingame has never given up. And neither should we.

Just thinking about this guy Cole. It actually makes sense from obama's point of view, he is of the same mind set as obama. I forget the exact quote but right after 9-11, obama was almost blaming America for our treatment of Muslims in the world.

Just more of obama's group of anti-America being given govt. positions of power. This is worse than the King George monarchy in the 1700's that led to our American Rewvolution.

KSM needs to have a "heart attack" in his cell. I wonder if there has even been a military coup in this country...

The "lame duck" session may be over, but our Lame Duck President isn't.

Tom, well said, good comparison.

Alex, yes and begging for help and no one coming to revive him. That would really spoil his need to be a martyr.

Steve, good to see you, good point, yes we are stuck with this jerk for awhile longer.

With Tim Adams, the Hawiaii senior clerk's testamony that Obama has no birth documents for this country the recess appointments have no cover for what they do in office. Those who are confirmed by the congress are in office legally even if they were not appointed legally. The recess apointments have no other source of authority other than Obama's legitamcy in office and so far every test of that has been blocked.
