Mexican Pirates Shoot US Man on Jet Ski in the Back of the Head In US Waters

Wife's desperate search for her husband after he is 'shot in the back of the head by Mexican pirates while jet-skiing'

According to a Texas sheriff the pirates shot David Hartley in the back of the head and then shot at his wife in US waters. Authorities are still searching for his body.

A young wife is desperately searching for her husband after he was shot in the back of the head by Mexican pirates in an ambush while they were jet-skiing on a border lake.

Search teams are combing the U.S. side of Falcon Lake in Texas for David Michael Hartley, 30, after he was apparently gunned down while his wife Tiffany fled to safety in a hail of bullets.

The couple had been jet-skiing on the lake when they were attacked.

Texas officials have been warning against activity on the lake after at least five reported run-ins with pirates this year. Previous hold-ups have never been deadly.

Zapata County Sheriff Sigifredo Gonzalez said Mrs Hartley, 29, fears her husband is dead.

He said she told police that the couple rode their Jet Skis for sightseeing and to take pictures of a famous church in Old Guerrero.

They were riding back when they saw the armed gunmen on the boats, and immediately began racing back to U.S. waters.

David Hartley didn't make it. His wife told authorities he was shot in the back of the head.

One of the boats may have crossed into U.S. waters briefly while trying to run down Mrs Hartley.

Gonzalez said he had contacted the Mexican consulate to ask them to search for Hartley on its side of the lake.

'I'm not trying to place the blame on her or him,' Gonzalez said.

'But we've told people not to go over there, and now this happens.'

Texas Parks & Wildlife Department spokesman Mike Cox said Friday that the state planned to issue a fresh warning to boaters about staying on the U.S. side of the lake.

The last warning came in May, and some campers on the lake have taken to arming themselves.

Falcon Lake is a dammed section of the Rio Grande that straddles the border. The border is marked by 14 partially submerged concrete towers that mark the Rio Grande's path before the lake was created in 1954.

Cox said Tiffany Hartley estimated that the shooting took place about five to six miles from the Texas shoreline where she parked and called for help.

In April, pirates robbed another group of boaters who also went to Old Guerrero to see the church.

Cox said the most recent reported pirate sighting had been August 31, when boaters saw gunmen riding a small skiff with 'Game Wardin' misspelled in duct tape on the side of the vessel.

Cox said it appeared the pirates were trying to imitate state game warden boats they have seen patrolling the lake.
Gonzalez has previously chalked up the dangerous waters as the product of fighting between rival Mexican drug gangs.

Violence on the Mexican side of the lake has been climbing for several months, as a fractured partnership between the region's dominant Gulf Cartel and its former enforcers, the Zetas, plunged many of the area's Mexican border cities into violence.

Wild Thing's comment.......

South Texas, Falcon Lake, on the border and there are mexican pirates on that lake, it has been in the news lately. They been hitting fisherman. My guess is they wanted the jet ski’s.

Lots of activity on Falcon Lake this year. I checked to see if there were other attacks and Google Pirates Falcon Lake

May 30: Mexican pirates attacked Texas fishermen on Falcon Lake; they boarded boats and demanded weapons or drugs and when the found neither, they simply robbed the fishermen.

May 18: Heavily armed Mexican freshwater pirates have been shaking down U.S. boaters on Falcon Lake, a reservoir and bass fishing haven that straddles the Rio Grande. At least three such incidents have been reported since April 30, 2010.

And Our Government responds, as they did in Arizona. Put up signs warning American Citizens, to stay out of the area, or use caution.

We definitely cannot expect any Law Enforcement action against these Pirates. That might discourage others. No it is easier to put up a sign, not to mention more politically correct.

Whatever happened to the idea of defending our land against invasion by hostiles? Is it any wonder that private citzens are taking matters into their own hands, in order to protect what is theirs?

Also incursions by Mexican police helicopters. Could they be helping drug runners?

Our political leaders could not care less about border security. It may eventually take armed citizens to secure the border.

I agree with all of you.
The longer this keeps up there will start to be Americans that will be prepared and then it will be war in these areas.
