Sheriff Joe's Response to the DOJ Lawsuit Against Him

Byron York on Fox News uncovers new information on the Arpaio/Justice case

Sheriff Joe's Response to the DOJ Lawsuit Against Him

Arpaio has reacted with outright defiance.

"This is the people of Arizona they are going against, using me as a puppet," Arpaio said at a press conference on Thursday. "They're not going to put handcuffs on this sheriff. I'm not going to surrender!"

The following is an official statement by Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio regarding today's lawsuit filed against his office by the U.S. Justice Department in Washington, D.C. for alleged refusal to turn over documents. It is followed by another statement from his Washington, D.C. attorney, Bob Driscoll.

"The Obama administration has filed three lawsuits against Arizona in the last few weeks ... one against a college district, one against the state of Arizona and now one against my office. Each lawsuit centers on something to do with alleged racial discrimination.
These actions make it abundantly clear that Arizona, including this Sheriff, IS Washington's new whipping boy. Now it's time to take the gloves off.
As for today's lawsuit against my office: These people in Washington met with my attorneys only a few days ago. And in that meeting, Washington got our cooperation; they admitted they already have thousands of pages of the requested documents; and they were given access to interview my staff and get into my jails.
They smiled in our faces and then stabbed us in the back with this lawsuit. The Obama administration intended to sue us all along, no matter what we did to try to avert it.
Washington isn't playing fair and it's time Americans everywhere wake up and see this administration for what it really is. Calculating, underhanded at times and certainly not looking out for the best interests of the legal citizens residing in this country. "

"Today's lawsuit by the Department of Justice is part of a deliberate media strategy to "get tough" on Sheriff Arpaio and the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office and undermine immigration enforcement by a local Sheriff who is trying desperately to make up for this Administration's own indifference to the topic.
The DOJ suit speaks loudly by what it does not say. It does not allege that Sheriff Arpaio or the MCSO have discriminated against anyone because the DOJ, after 18 months of soliciting allegations against Sheriff Arpaio, has come up empty. Even the purported basis for the suit, which alleges a lack of "cooperation," is a sham.

In fact, after meeting with the DOJ last week, just last Friday, on behalf of MCSO,
I informed the DOJ that MCSO would cooperate with all reasonable document
requests and would schedule tours of MCSO facilities and interviews with senior
MCSO command staff. We were awaiting a response from DOJ, and this lawsuit
is apparently it. Clearly DOJ is more interested filing its third lawsuit in as many
weeks against Arizona defendants than in looking into the allegations that
purportedly gave rise to its investigation. This lawsuit is nothing more than an
attempt to obscure the fact that DOJ still has no case. Today's suit over documents
does not change that."

Wild Thing's comment........

I am 100% behind all the Legal Citizens of Arizona and the excellent job Sherriff Joe and the Gov. Jan are doing to fight the DOJ who are taking their marching orders from the crooked US Attn. General and his boss pres. obama or should I state Dictator Obama.

This is great. I will love to see Sheriff Joe take on the DOJ head on and in public. US AG Holder is trying bully tactics and I hope the effort bites him in the ass. The main two problems are that the Feds are not fulfilling their constitutional duty to protect our borders and the obama bunch are violating The Constitution, in particular the Tenth Amendment.

The Obama Regime is doing all it can to make Arizona safe for illegals and cartels. Democrats want Hispanic votes so bad that they're willing to send this country to Hell in order to get them.

Once again the DOJ and this Administration are using their faith in the continuing ignorance of the average American. The one who relies on MSM reports and the like for their information.

This time it may truly blow up in their face, as the Sheriff is one of the most popular men in the State of Arizona, and continually gets reelected by huge margins.

The fact that the Sheriff is not afraid to speak out and has a history of backing up any and all statements with undeniable facts, is another point in the favor of Arizona.

It is very disturbing, though not untypical, to see the DOJ make public statements regarding the turning over of the Documents only to have them refuted by the Sheriff and his Attorney. This again is an attept to try this case in the Court of Public Opinion.

I am so impressed with the toughness that, both the sheriff and Governor Brewer are showing through out this whole thing. They both know that, what they are doing is well within the law. They are not going to go away and will not allow themselves to be bullied.

Meanwhile the HSN and ICE continue to either sit on their hands or do minimal, regarding the Illegal Immigration problem. No doubt, under the direct order from the Admionistration.

Omombo has to do his payback for all the Latino vote, which with out it he would have lost the Election.. Idaho and Michigan filed Friends of the court Briefs yesterday bringing that total to 11 states so far siding with Arizona, I’m going to Arizona the 5th of January and will stay for nine days and spend My A$$ off…

Stand Tall Sheriff Joe, the nation is behind you. I could be mistaken but I believe that a County Sheriff is top dog, could arrest holder if he showed up.

Kripes, where the heck is John McCain??! Why is he not out there in support of that beautiful state and their efforts to enforce the law? What good is he? I see nothing his detachment from the people who put him in office. At least we know John Kyl is working hard. Yet, the WH Adm continues on with its scorched earth policy. How much corruption must we observe before the dire consequences of such abandonment take place? The events that unfold there are not isolated, we are one nation, and attacks on the part affect the whole. >
