BP Says Oil Flow Has Stopped as Cap Is Tested

BP Says Oil Flow Has Stopped as Cap Is Tested

BP said Thursday that it had capped its hemorrhaging well, at least temporarily, marking the first time in 86 days that oil was not gushing into the Gulf of Mexico.

Oil stopped flowing around 2:25 p.m. when the last of several valves was closed on a cap at the top of the well, said Kent Wells, a senior vice president for BP.

The announcement came after a series of failed attempts to cap or contain the runaway well that tested the nation’s patience. Mr. Wells emphasized that pressure tests were being conducted to determine the status of the well, which is now sealed like a soda bottle. BP and the government could decide to allow the oil to flow again and try to collect all of it; they could allow the oil to flow and, if tests show the well can withstand the pressure from the cap, close the well during hurricanes; or they could leave the well closed permanently.

The last option seems unlikely, but whatever the decision, the cap is an interim measure until a relief well can plug the leak for good.

“I am very pleased that there’s no oil going into the Gulf of Mexico,” Mr. Wells said, “but we just started the test and I don’t want to create a false sense of excitement.”

I sure hope it works . The other big problem is obama, the drill hating, oil industry hating garbage excuse for a human being that he is.

In the end it was stopped by good men and women who worked their butts off. Outside the industry none will ever get credit for it. Here's a toast or the next one to them. Obama and his minions deserve none.

Now maybe they won't go so deep. in a much lesser depth it could have been controlled much easier. It's good news BP got this stopped. Since obama did nothing about it.

I'll tell you what. I still won't sleep easy. I'm still concerned about the after effects here in FL where I live. They dumped a lot of chemicals on top of all the methane and crude out there. What will that do long term to sea food and environmental health?

Now watch the boot at your throat elitist central planners in Washington try to get the credit for something they know nothing about.

Well done to all the brave men and women who continue to work on this remediation and

let us not forget the eleven men lost in this industrial accident.

You know, the eleven never even recognized by this administration in Washington.

..an administration that exploited this industrial accident to try and end the many safe and productive off shore mineral and gas explorations that are ongoing and support the livelihoods of ten thousands of good and talented American workers.
