Reid Vows to Stay in Race Despite Poor Poll Numbers

FOXNews.com

After hitting a new low in a state poll, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid dismissed speculation that he would pull a Dodd -- and follow in the footsteps of Democratic colleague Christopher Dodd, who announced his retirement this week in the face of a losing re-election bid.

"I am absolutely running for re-election," the Nevada Democrat told the Las Vegas Review-Journal, which commissioned a new poll that found more than half of Nevadans are unhappy with his performance.
"These are difficult times for Nevada and as the majority leader of the Senate, I have been able to take action to address those challenges," he said Friday in a statement. "But I know there is more work to do to turn our state's economy around and create jobs and I am committed to seeing it through."

Democratic Senator & Majority Leader Harry Reid Apologizes For Disparaging Remarks About Obama

Reid's troubles continued on Saturday, when he was forced to apologize for private remarks reported in a new book in which he described Barack Obama during the presidential campaign as a black candidate who would benefit from his "light-skinned" appearance and speaking patterns "with no Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one."

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada described in private then-Sen. Barack Obama as "light skinned" and "with no Negro dialect, unless he wanted to have one." Obama is the nation's first African-American president.

"I deeply regret using such a poor choice of words. I sincerely apologize for offending any and all Americans, especially African-Americans for my improper comments," Reid said in a statement released after the excerpts were first reported on the Web site of The Atlantic.

"I was a proud and enthusiastic supporter of Barack Obama during the campaign and have worked as hard as I can to advance President Obama's legislative agenda."

Reid remained neutral during the bitter Democratic primary that became a marathon contest between Obama and then-Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, whom Obama tapped as the United States' top diplomat after the election.

NEVADA U.S. SENATE POLL: Reid hits new low in poll

Rating is worst in Las Vegas Review Journal's surveys for 2010 election

More than half of Nevadans are unhappy with Sen. Harry Reid, according to a new poll commissioned by the Las Vegas Review-Journal. It's the worst "unfavorable" rating he's received in the newspaper's surveys for this year's election, and it comes amid quiet speculation -- or perhaps wishful thinking by his opponents -- that it's time for the Nevada Democrat to retire rather than lose re-election.

Is Harry in trouble? Certainly. Is he out of the game? No," said Mark Peplowski, a political science professor at the College of Southern Nevada. "I see it coming down to the fourth quarter. And everybody says the fourth quarter is where the best game is played.''

That's what the Reid camp is counting on. The November election is 10 months out, which may give the senator's expected $25 million-fueled campaign time to sell him to Nevadans again -- and time to tear apart his GOP opponent once a contender emerges from the crowded field in the June primary.

''He's never backed down from a fight,'' Reid campaign manager Brandon Hall said in an interview when asked whether Reid would retire instead of seeking a fifth Senate term. He added, ''We're not trying to win a beauty contest here.''

BUT LOOK at this from 2007! Reid is such a total JERK! ~ Wild Thing

Sen. Harry Reid, former amateur boxer, recently threw a few punches at Marine general Peter Pace, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs, and Gen. David Petraeus, the commander of multinational forces in Iraq

Sen. Harry Reid, former amateur boxer, recently threw a few punches at Marine general Peter Pace, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs, and Gen. David Petraeus, the commander of multinational forces in Iraq. According to Reid, who declared months ago from 5,000 miles away in Washington that the war in Iraq is "lost," Petraeus "isn't in touch with what's going on Baghdad." General Petraeus has served for 33 years, wrote the Army's manual on counterinsurgency, and has spent almost two and a half years in Iraq.

In a braggadocio session with leftwing bloggers, Reid recounted how he supposedly dressed down General Pace during a private meeting: "I told him to his face, I laid it out to him last time he came to see me, I told him what an incompetent man I thought he was." In trash-talking the widely admired military leaders, Reid is attempting to fight well above his weight class. And to anyone who actually believes that the bantamweight Democratic leader insulted General Pace to his face, we say: Tell it to the Marines.

Wild Thing's comment........

Here's hoping and praying there will be more dems that will pull out, or even better get voted out for good!

And to Harry Reid, keep talking Harry. You're up for re-election and your pol numbers are bad. The more you talk, the less likely you can get re-elected. Reid made these comments more than a year ago -- ever reported? Anyone in the media ever think of asking him to resign ...nope.

I love it when leftists get bitten by their own PC diversity stormtroopers.

For the last time, Barack's MOM was WHITE and she, along with Barack's grandmother, raised him after his biologically black father checked out. Am I missing something zebras, pandas and penguins?

I wonder if obama doesn't have some deseated resentment for his mother being white. Afterall, she got thrown under the bus along with the white Grandparents. Then ran them over when they died.

Since the Teleprompter, all of his speeches and any communications with the public have been so scripted that nobody really knows what he thinks. Just hints of things that seem to slip out when the prompter has finished. He is a dangerous man.

Harebrain Reid is an embarrassment to all Nation Loving Americans. He is a bigger embarrassment to me and my fellow Mormons. This person does not conduct himself like any Mormon that I know. Just his acceptance of Abortion alone is despicable! This is the most scurrilous bastard in Washington DC, even more so than obummer. Together though, the true devils triangle is Reid, Pelosi, and obummer.
With them at the helm, it isn't our foreign enemies that threaten us most. These assholes would take all that we hold valuable.

And the Dallas Cowboys absolutely destroyed the Philly Eagles in the Jones Majal last night to win the first of the NFL playoff games. Go Cowboys.

Darth, Obama refuses to acknowledge his White mother and his upbringing by his White grandparents. The only time he will is when it benefits him. He's been going around the world referring to himself as an African American.

Dodd pulling out was actually a brilliant move for the Democrats. Since he was most certain to loose reelection and thus a Democrat seat in the Senate, they convinced him to retire. They're going to replace him with a candidate that is popular in the state with a better chance of retaining Dodd's seat in the Senate.

But, you can be we haven't heard the last of Dodd. You an be assured he was promised big things to retire. Like Tom Daschell, he'll still be in Washington working behind the scenes to tear this nation apart.

Canvasback Reid is on the ropes in Nevada but no matter how onerous his statements or deeds the machine backs him, Danny Tarkanian is a serious threat to him, it's up to the rest of us to support the opposition. I don't believe for a second that Dodd is out, sure he's stepping down from the Senate but to what? The Obama admin has promised that low life something big, or it's a UN position. Scott Brown is an urgent issue to block another Ted Kennedy from being installed in the one party state.

In the next year the Democrats have the opportunity to really anger the public even more. As the Dems and obama push even more spending and socialist programs, I hope more and more Americans wake up to what is happening to America.

Perhaps the good people of Nevada will put Reid out to pasture this year. I wish Dodd had stayed in for reelection and been beaten. I don't know if the voters of Conn. are ready for a conservative. They may just replace Dodd with another crooked Dem.

Darth, no you are not missing anything.
Good point.

Mark, I agree, I think he does have
tremendous resentment for his mom being
white. The many racist quotes from his book, the first one I think it was prove it too.

Frankly, good one.

BobF., your so right. You mentioned the other day too how it would have been better for him to stay in and then lose. I had not thought of that but you are right.

Jack, thanks, I get updates from
Danny Tarkanian. It was funny, I could not
remember where I signed up for them and then
I remembered it was over at Facebook. haha
But yesss he is doing good. I sure hope he
wins.
