U.S. Senate Voted 60-69 to Invoke Cloture On Socialized Medicine and Reid Says it Is FREE!

The U.S. Senate tonight voted 60-39 to invoke Cloture on the Senate Health Care Bill, meaning it now will move to the floor of the Senate for Debate.

It does NOT mean the bill has passed the Senate. It will now move to an amendment phase, and before moving to a vote on final passage, the bill would have to pass another 60 vote threshold cloture vote to close debate / amendments and move to a final vote.

The vote was was 60-39.

It was a straight party line vote. Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins voted with the GOP.

Democrats united Saturday night to push historic health care legislation past a key Senate hurdle over the opposition of Republicans eager to inflict a punishing defeat on President Barack Obama. There was not a vote to spare.

The 60-39 vote cleared the way for a bruising, full-scale debate beginning after Thanksgiving on the legislation, which is designed to extend coverage to roughly 31 million who lack it, crack down on insurance company practices that deny or dilute benefits and curtail the growth of spending on medical care nationally.

The spectator galleries were full for the unusual Saturday night showdown, and applause broke out briefly when the vote was announced. In a measure of the significance of the moment, senators sat quietly in their seats, standing only when they were called upon to vote.

In the final minutes of a daylong session, Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., accused Republicans of trying to stifle a historic debate the nation needed.

“Imagine if, instead of debating whether to abolish slavery, instead of debating whether giving women and minorities the right to vote, those who disagreed had muted discussion and killed any vote,” he said.
The Republican leader, Sen. Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, said the vote was anything but procedural — casting it as a referendum on the bill itself, which he said would raise taxes, cut Medicare and create a “massive and unsustainable debt.”

Wild Thing's comment..........

Most Americans clearly do not want this bill. Nancy Pelosi and the House Dems don’t care. Harry Reid and the Senate Demos don’t care. They and Barack Hussein Obama have in 10 months sent America trillions into debt. Their “cap and tax” will kill even more jobs. They have seized control of banks and companies. And now they are pulling off a “healthcare coup” to take over the most intimate parts of our lives and add even more trillions in debt. This is a war on the American people.

What is it that they did in 1863? They shed their blood both on distant lands and in their own front yards. From the Wilderness of Chancellorsville to the Round Tops of Gettysburg to the aptly named River of Death in Chickamauga, they bled so they would be in bondage to no one but their Savior. Some blood poured through Blue wool, some through Butternut and Grey...ALL for the reason of ending bondage, whether it be their own or that of a fellow human being. I tell you now...both North and South, both East and West...we are ALL in bondage once more. Enslaved by a tyranny unseen but in dusty volumes recollecting centuries of old. It is ever apparent that out own volume of history is opened, eager to be filled with the tales of those brave enough to put God and country before self.

"Already the hour is late. Government has laid its hand on health, housing, farming, industry, commerce, education, and to an ever-increasing degree interferes with the people's right to know. ... We approach the point of no return when government becomes so huge and entrenched that we fear the consequences of upheaval and just go along with it." — Ronald Reagan

It's sickening. My oldest cried her eyes out because she feels her and little Rerun's futures are gone now. They've already started restricting Women's healthcare (nice, real nice). These are signs of what is to come after Obama leaves office (convenient of him to that, isn't it?). I will be coming into senior citizen status and my care will be rationed. I will eventually need a device to help me get around due to my spinal stenosis. No cure, but it will be taxed to the point I can't have it. Alzheimers runs in my hubby's family along with diabetes. Devices such as syringes and insulin pumps will be taxed. So will toothpaste, feminine products, bathsoap, shampoo, shower chairs, shower railings, bath mats, etc. All because they will be considered medical devices. How about a pacemaker? How about shunts for kids with hydrocephalus? Yeah, let's just tax prescriptions too while we're at it and vitamins too.
What about my daughters wanting to be mommies themselves someday? Will that be allowed or will they have to get permission to have a family from the king?
This cloture vote also means Heartless Harry will only need 51 votes for it to pass once it's merged with the Baucus bill and Obama has stated he wants to sign it into law by Christmas.
I am so upset with all those idiots who voted for this horrible, tragic administration. I especially love the part where they can go into my financial records at any time, come into my home at anytime and tell me how to parent and how if I don't buy some form of insurance, I risk a huge fine and imprisonment for up to 5 years. That's real nice of them-take a mother from her children. And if it's so good, why doesn't congress, the senate, the President and VP, the cabinet and the czars take it too? Come on, what's good for the goose, is good for the gander.

This just goes to show how ignorant Harry Reid is. If it was a debate to abolish slavery, it would be the Democrats who would have muted discussion.

The question is: Can this nation survive till November 2010 when congressional elections and then till January 2011 when new members are sworn in?

"Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins voted with the GOP."

Now THAT's newsworthy!

Ahem!!! This is the same cheval baise we have been receiving from the GOP for the past 35 years, not to even mention the those Communists masquerading as Democrats. Vote 'em all out or to the sword!!!

OMG Jack laughing MOA. That's about it.

We still got time to beat these MFer's back and keep this thing from getting a vote before Christmas. We do that the chances of it getting done in the next year becomes very slim. 1/3 the Senate is up for re-election and all of the congress the democrats are in trouble. That was the reason for not reading the bill and the hurry up and get it passed before it gets too close to election time.

Now time is on our side.

Amazingly, or not, the new taxes do not go into effect until 2010 aint that convenient for these bastard demos, after the election, of course.

If you feel like you are surrounded, remember this, now we can strike out in any direction and hit the suckers.

Now a couple of two faced, so called Blue Dog Democrats can vote against final passage of the bill and claim to angry voters that they were against it. Most of our elected Federal politicians ar as crooked as can be.

Also, the taxes for this bill don't cut in until after the 2010 elections. 2010 is also when the Bush tax cut expire. I imagine a lot of Americans are going to be shocked when they see their 2011 taxes. Then they may awaken, but it will be too late.

Meantime the "don't pay taxes bunch" will be smiling at all the freebies they will be getting from the govt. obama has really lived up to his redistributing the wealth plan.

Ronald Reagan foresaw this. We are teetering on the very brink of the point of no return now and it looks like we are going over.

Lynn, I am so sorry, this is so horrible and
I feel extra badly about it for like you say
your children and others that will have this
kind of thing in their future. We all tired
so hard to stop this insanity.

BobF., the way it is going I honeslty
am not sure if we can survive or not.
I hate saying that with all I am
but how can these these be overturned
later on?
What a mess.

Rick, yes that surprised me big time.
I still don't trust them but I was
surprised they stuck with the
rest of the Republicans.

Jack, LOL hahahaha

Good one!

Posted by: Wild Thing at November 22, 2009 04:22 PM

Mark, yes, and we have time to keep hammering
that taxes are coming too to those that want
to ignore what is happening and make them wake
up before they vote.

"Amazingly, or not, the new taxes do not go into effect until 2010 aint that convenient for these bastard demos, after the election, of course."

This reminds me of Chesty, Yessss.

"If you feel like you are surrounded, remember this, now we can strike out in any direction and hit the suckers."

Tom, yes Reagan was so smart, he did see this
coming. It would break his heart to see this
happening and anger him too like it does all
of us.

Wild Thing, for every action their is an opposite and equal reaction and very often out of evil comes good just as remember the Alamo became the rallying cry for Texan independence remember Obamacare could easily become the rallying cry of the new America patriots.
