Wounded Warriors Return to Iraq for a Bit of Closure & Camaraderie

Wild Thing's comment........

Recently on Fox News, Julie Banderas featured a special segment of wounded warriors who returned to Iraq for a homecoming, of sorts, to try and find some closure of their time in the battle. What a touching story this was, and what a reminder it is that we owe our very freedoms to these men and woman so we may enjoy the lives we are currently living.

Nice story. It is amazing some of the ideas and technology geared to helping wounded servicemen recover psychologically as well as physically. Good for the Army.

Thank you Chrissie. Those are some courageous men to face this so soon after being so severely wounded. This is so important, some of us took years to come out of our shells, (still growing) it's definitely about comraderie. After nearly 35 years I started to talk about things, I'd reenlisted (twice) to get closure, it helped some, yet there was no one with the same experiences to relate with, nothing as close as the original relationships. This blog has been a Godsend as has LindaSog's blog.
No two of us experienced exactly the same thing, ours was an unconventional war. My good friend Bill has been going back to Vietnam every year for many years now, he is involved with an orphanage there, he's put the enmity behind him in a positive way. He has been key in organizing the last two reunions I have been to. They have been a positive catharsis for most all of us, some refuse to participate under any circumstances. One in particular, wounded by a claymore, doesn't even associate with former members of his unit, I can relate and respect that. It isn't easy to open up after years of being classified as subhuman for doing what your country asked you to do. Let's not ever let that happen to these fine patriots!!!

Tom, I am so proud of our Army and our soldiers.
The ones on the video seem to like that they
did this too, it meant a lot to them to go back
like they did.

God bless all of them and help them heal in
all ways.

Jack ,I was thinking that too. I agree.
I think this is something new they are
doing for our troops and I think it is
a good idea for those they feel they can
handle it. Some it might be too soon, but
they would know better then anyone else.

Jack thank you so much for sharing.

God Bless them for going back. I never had any desire to go back. Never joined any organizations, legions or whatever. After 1973 or there abouts the next 7 or 8 years were a friggin blur, stayed drunk for a good deal of the time. If I wasn't working I'd be in a bar somewhere. Then I met my wife and that ended the drinking but never really talked to anyone never wanted to. Until I met Rhod and came here. Then things started to change. It is still difficult talking but it's getting easier.
