Residents Get Chance At Stimulus Money

Click on Detroit

Detroit's homeless and low-income residents have another opportunity for a chance at millions of stimulus dollars.

The money is available to help low-income residents from becoming homeless and homeless residents to find housing.

Thousands of people lined up Tuesday.

Some people in line falsely believed they were registering for $3,000 stimulus checks from the Obama Administration.

City officials told Local 4 that Detroit was granted $15 million to help residents pay bills and their rent or find temporary housing for the homeless.

The Detroit Planning and Development Department (PDD) is taking applications Tuesday and Wednesday for the Homelessness Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing Program.

Application Guidelines

To qualify, a person must have been a resident of Detroit for more than six months, must be homeless or facing eviction and must be able to maintain housing after receiving assistance.

Also, a resident must make 50 percent less than the median area income, which would be less than $24,850 for single Detroit residents and less than $35,500 for a family of four.

No mortgage assistance will be available through this program.

Once applications are reviewed, only applicants eligible for funding assistance will receive notification from a service provider.

Scam Artists Target Homeless Seeking Help

The city of Detroit has turned away thousands of people who lined up Wednesday for a chance to receive stimulus money set aside for homeless and low-income residents.

Wednesday at the Cobo Hall was the last day for Detroit residents to get an application for Homelessness Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing Program stimulus money.

The city said an overwhelming 50,000 people came to the center seeking money that was promised to keep low-income residents from losing their homes and finding temporary housing for the homeless. The massive crowds created a fire and safety hazard and forced the Detroit Police Department to shut down the entire process.

"The line was so long that we couldn't even get in here. And look, there are people all over the place, this is getting crazy here. We need help here," said Detroit resident Yvonne Crandell.

The crowd got so rowdy at one point that people were fainting and fighting. The Detroit Police Gang was called.

DPS also requested that the Salvation Army's Emergency Disaster Services team, which is trained to help law enforcement deal with a disaster, come to the Cobo Hall to help deal with the crowds.

The teams are distributing food and other relief to people waiting in line.

More than 20,000 applications were handed out Tuesday at six neighborhood city hall locations. Residents had one last chance to get an application Wednesday at the Cobo Hall, but after only one hour of opening its doors, the city ran out of forms.

Asia Johnson was the first person in line at the Cobo Hall.

"Yes, I'm No. 1 and I've been in line since 10 o'clock p.m. last night," said Johnson.
"I feel that the ones are out here really, really wanted it, if they didn't they wouldn't be in line to get it," said Debra Yatts, who had been waiting in line since 2 a.m.

Some people in line Tuesday falsely believed they were registering for $3,000 stimulus checks from the Obama administration.

But instead, city officials told Local 4 that Detroit was granted $15 million in stimulus money to help residents pay bills and their rent or find temporary housing for the homeless.

"I'm at a dead end then, because we need this, we truly do need it," said Yatts.

Detroit is among the nation's leaders in home foreclosures, and at least one in four households are in poverty.

Wild Thing's comment.........

This doesn’t bode well for Detroit. I have an uneasy feeling about that city.

PHOTO GALLERY CLICK HERE...there are 18 photos.......I felt fear of these people las I looked at these photos.
Masses like this are scary to me and to know they can get angry and violent.....well. I would be terrified to be there.

Coming to a city near you ? Pray for our country.

So many people have been drinking from the democrat kool-aid for so long that they are completely blinded by the root causes of many of their problems. What party has controlled Detroit politics for the last 30-40 years? Or Chicago?

I live only a few miles from Detroit where unemployment has risen over 25% (I don't know where the news media get the 18% figure...) and crime is rising like an evil wave. The place looks like a ghost town and has little hope for "change" any time soon. Those who could get out have gotten out. Those who remain are trapped in a city with crumbling infrastructure and a corrupt city government more intent on lining their pockets than doing anything positive to help the city survive. Gang violence is on the increase and is spreading to the suburbs...it's scary around here. Wayne county used to be the jewel of the state, now we are the sump. Yet, this is a staunchly pro-Obama area, Democrat-lovers who wait for the great king in DC to lavish millions on the poor of Detroit. They just don't get it.

So how's that 40 years of Democrat-controlled City government working out for ya?
And how much more did the city have to dish out for the police etc?

Here's an ecerpt from Rush...

So our affiliate, WJR in Detroit was on the scene. News reporter Ken Rogulski went down there and here is an interview with one of the people in line for stimulus cash.

ROGULSKI: Did you get an application to fill out yet?

WOMAN: I sure did. And I filled it out, and I am waiting to see what the results are going to be.

ROGULSKI: Will you know today how much money you're getting?

WOMAN: No, I won't, but I'm waiting for a phone call.

ROGULSKI: Where's the money coming from?

WOMAN: I believe it's coming from the City of Detroit or the state.

ROGULSKI: Where did they get it from?

WOMAN: Some funds that was forgiven (sic) by Obama.

ROGULSKI: And where did Obama get the funds?

WOMAN: Obama getting the funds from... Ummm, I have no idea, to tell you the truth. He's the president.

ROGULSKI: In downtown Detroit, Ken Rogulski, WJR News.

This is the democrat legacy of its treatment of Blacks. Generation after generation of welfare recipients who could care less where the money is coming from. It's not there money so why do they even care where it comes from. Obama the same way it's not his money, so he has no problem giving it away.

Tax dollars given away because these people are too lazy to look for a job. This is the Obama dream, dream it and obama will pay for it with our money.

I bet ACORN sure wishes it could get its hands on that 15 million so it could give out 5 million and have the rest for "administrative" costs.

Yep, Blowbama is taking good care of the blacks, just like he promised. And he's also helping out his 1/2 brother in Africa who lives in a box. I can't wait until they turn on his ass.

Many of them thought they were going to get "free" $3000 gifts from the government. They already got guaranteed home loans that they couldn't afford. Inept govt economic policies cost them their jobs. Now they find out that the govt is not really giving away free money. They will still vote for Dems and obama.

So typically Detroit. Where the workers in the auto plants, by and large, have put their honor in their union local rather than the company that feeds their children. They see the employer as their enemy, and did all they could to sabotage the company, causing the companies to either go under or go out of the country. These liberal dummies want to rid the country of the rich man, not smart enough to realize that they never ever made a wage working for a poor man.
And yes, this is how Democrats treat blacks, and still 52 point something percent of American Voters are so damned dumb that they voted for a white guy with nappy hair, that has never had a job, has never met a payroll, has never done a damned thing in the private sector. How much more gullible can Americans get?
