La Raza Sotomayor Vows Impartiality If Confirmed to Court ~

Sotomayor vows impartiality if confirmed to court

My Way News

Sonia Sotomayor, the first Hispanic Supreme Court nominee in history, vowed loyalty to "the impartiality of our justice system" Monday, confronting Republican skeptics at Senate hearings suffused with racial politics but all but certain to lead to her confirmation.

"My personal and professional experiences help me to listen and understand, with the law always commanding the result in every case," the 55-year old Sotomayor said in her first substantive remarks in public since President Barack Obama nominated her seven weeks ago.

Her comments amounted to a polite but firm rebuttal to Republicans who have criticized her 2001 comment that a "wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences" might make better rulings than a white male.

Despite GOP misgivings, Democrats command a large majority in the committee and the Senate as a whole, and there seemed virtually no doubt about the ultimate outcome.

"Unless you have a complete meltdown, you're going to get confirmed," Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., told her.
"And I don't think you will" have a meltdown, he added quickly as Sotomayor sat listening, her face in a half-smile.

She'll answer questions Tuesday following Monday's day of speechmaking by committee members and her own five-minute statement.

Sen. Jeff Sessions of Alabama, the senior Republican, promised a "respectful tone" and "maybe some disagreements" when lawmakers begin questioning Sotomayor on Tuesday.

"I will not vote for, and no senator should vote for an individual nominated by any president who believes it is acceptable for a judge to allow their own personal background, gender, prejudices or sympathies to sway their decision," he said.
"Call it empathy, call it prejudice or call it sympathy, but whatever it is, it's not law," Sessions said. "In truth, it's more akin to politics, and politics has no place in the courtroom."

Wild Thing's comment............

“Sotomayor pledges impartial justice if confirmed”

Anyone want to buy a bridge? She would not recognise “impatrial justice” if she poured it on her cereal every morning.

We saw her impartiality in the Ricci case. Soto-dodo is an outright liar. Everything she has written, ruled on, given speeches on, the groups she belongs to, etc. prove the absolute opposite of this baloney that came out of her mouth yesterday.

Also it is beyond surreal and sickening to also think that one of the Senators asking questions is Al Franken.

America where did you go?

Judicial impartiality means that a judge must have no bias in respect to the litigants. That's the professional requirement.

With Sotomayor's words on record, it's impossible for her to meet this standard. Moreover, her claim that she's "impartial" means that she's also a liar.

Regardless, all she has to do is maintain her composure and she will be confirmed. They have the votes and the fawning love affair from the democrats is proof she'll be confirmed why even bother with the confirmation hearings. They already know how they are going to vote. Especially the democrats.

But one thing, How in hell did Al Franken get a seat on the Judicial Committee, he just got there. This is a total absolute disgrace.

Thank you Chrissie, SCOTUS Judges are infinitely more important than any elected member of Congress or the presidency, this one is about to be elected for life by the Communists and their counterpart supporters.
Actions speak louder than words, GWB fought tooth and nail for Arlen Specter to set as seat of Chairman of the Senate Committee on the Judiciary, after he vowed his impartiality, events have proven his loyalties of 44 years an an agent of both sides of the Communist party, he has declared his allegiance to the Marxist.
The only human that is impartial is that newborn babe fresh from the womb without any outside influences. I've sat in at a court-martial, served multiple times as a juror and there is no such thing as being impartial, especially when life, liberty and freedom are the stakes. The only differences being that my service experience was amongst total strangers, that made it impartial enough to be fair, this one will be ensconced amongst like minded judges. We are still thinking about Ginsburg's revelation, something sobering to think about. Still think Sotomayor can be impartial??? Rhod, Mark, I concur, thank you for answering my question.

Sotomayor is a dedicated Liberal. She cannot be impartial. She is racist, probably a feminist and also a socialist. She is a follower of obama.

Impartial - No!

Lindsey Graham also needs to do an Arlen Specter and just change parties.

Rhod, thank you! I got to see some of it
today and she did get asked a lot but only
by Republicans of course about that.
I guess in the end it will not matter she
will be voted in and it will be so horrible.

I sure am tired of people not respecting
our Constitution.

Jack,thank you for sharing about
your experiences...."there is no such thing as being impartial"....

I agree so much.

I only sat on a Jury one time. 4 years ago
and I knew before they picked me how I felt.
This sounds bad I guess, but they even picked
me to be the Foreman of the Jury. GRRRRR I
sat there hoping they would not do that.
Once we got in the room I could tell there
were three total liberals in our Jury group
and I knew they would let the guy off. LOL
So I did a whole number on them to get them
to see they had to vote NO and not let him go.

They guy was arrested for drunk driving,
beat up two of the cops, and when he was in
the back seat and handcuffed he was very thin
and he managed to wiggle his way so the cuffs
were in front and not behind him and he tried
to strangle the cop driving the cop car.

The three liberals wanted to give him another
chance. So I kept brining up how worried I was
about his doing it again and killing innocent
people. That I could not stand to have their
deaths on my conscience for the rest of my life.

Finallly the biggest liberal of them all gave
gave in and said yesss I don't want it on mine
either. whew I thougth they never would agree.
So he had to go to rehab, had his license taken
away for awhile and do community service for
6 months. And they had wanted him to walk and
no punishment at all.

The liberal hippies hated cops. sheesh
