John Conyers (D-Mich) Says Health Care Bill is Filled With So Much Garbage Only a Lawyer Could Interpret

Conyers: why bother to read bill?

The Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee questions why lawmakers should bother to read the Health Care Bill. Nicholas Ballasy, a video reporter from CNSNews.com published this video of House Judiciary Committee Chairman (D-Mich) John Conyers questioning the point of lawmakers reading the health care bill:

American Thinker

Here's my question to Congressman Conyers: if it is so complicated that it requires two days and two lawyers to figure it out, should you be voting on it in the first place? Is it not your elected responsibility to vote in accordance with your membership? If you don't know what you're voting on, then how can you vote accordingly? Let me guess: Nancy Pelosi promised you that it was a good bill and you should just shut up and vote for it.

This is appalling. Would you sign a contract without reading it? Then why are the members of congress voting for legislation without reading it?

(CNSNews.com)

During his speech at a National Press Club luncheon, the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, Democratic Congressman John Conyers (D-Mich.), questioned the point of lawmakers reading the health care bill.

“I love these members, they get up and say, ‘Read the bill,’” said Conyers.
“What good is reading the bill if it’s a thousand pages and you don’t have two days and two lawyers to find out what it means after you read the bill?”

.

Wild Thing's comment.......

These idiots are guilty of legislative malpractice when they openly admit they don’t read and therefore don’t know what it is they are voting for! Wow...just wow...he actually admitted that it’s too much trouble to know what he’s voting on. My heart breaks for our nation.

Why do these people get paid when they can't be borthered to do their jobs? And what kind of constituents keep sending them back to DC.

They have forgotten the meaning of a representative form of government. That they are in fact supposed to read these bills, understand them, and vote in the best interest of their constituency. No member of congress is supposed to vote how they feel, but how the people back home feel.

Getting elected is not an endorsement of the persons judgement. It is saying that they will vote the way the people want. That is not always along party lines!!! Before any vote they should have to go home, and speak with the people to get their take on these bills!!!!

This is PRECISELY why ”TERM LIMITS”are vital to the survival of this republic!

.

....Thank you Richard for sending this to me.

Conyers makes a good point. In that, no one can understand the bills, not even the congressman who vote on them. BUT how can they vote on something they either do not read or understand. Unless they are nothing but sheep led by Pelosi and Hoyer and do as they are told or else. Congress was never meant to be a full time job, but a job representing the People and doing what was in the best interest of the People because they WORK FOR THE PEOPLE, we are their Boss.

Conyers lament by it self is an admission of incompetance on the part of the congress. That they all are incompetent or too stupid and should not be there in the first place.

Mark Steyn subbed for Rush a couple of weeks ago. I agree with him, there's no reason to have these massive 1,000+ page bills. It's ridiculous. It's all about muddying the water so you can't see the turds in there.

I agree with Jim, re: the length of the bills and the intent to hide a lot of crap.
We are constantly hearing that our Representatives do not read or research any of the things they vote on. Reid saying that reading Sotomayors judgements was not important, then we have this pronouncement by Conyers, are classic examples.
If this health care program is so great, how come they are not dropping their health plan, and joining up?
Another case of the "Let Them Eat Cake" elitist mentality of thet crowd.

Parallels.

Conyers is one of the 13 founding members of the Congressional Black Caucus, and is considered the Dean of that group. Conyers is a proponent of what is wrong with both houses of Congress, he's been meddling with freedom as freedom fighter for 44 years. He's part and parcel to the length of the obfuscating bills, he just grouses because he can't find his portion of the pork!!!

These bills are purposely over lengthy anf written in jibberish, ambiguous legalese. As Jim and Sean state, it is to cofuse us. Meantime each democrat gets to sneak in his/her particular pork. Then of course if the bill passes it "magically" becomes more expensive and oppresive.

I am so in favor of term limits that I think it should be a Constitutional amendment. Then place severe limits on Federally elected and appointed service, so someone in the loop could not just jump from one position or another.

Conyers is also a member of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, the CPC, sounds a lot like CPUSA. The 5th column of the U.S. Government.

Thank you everyone sooooo much for
your input on this.

I agree so much. Conyers is a total
jerk and has done more harm then good
in his years in office.
He is also right about this bill, it is
too big and none of these bills should be
big like this, it allows things to be
slipped in that few ever even find out
about, things that do only harm.

Yes Conyers is a member of the
CPUSA and has been since the Bill
Clinton years and maybe further back
then that. During the Clinton
presidency is when I learned about the
CPUSA and Conyers and others being
members.
