Great US Coast Guard Video

This is a really good video of our awesome US Coast Guard.

PLEASE CLICK HERE TO SEE VIDEO

The Coast Guard motto is "Semper Paratus", Latin for "Always Ready" or "Always Prepared".

Wild Thing's comment......

The Coast Guard is really amazing, they do so many things and I always wished the representatives from the Coast Guard and Marines, Army, Air Force, Navy all of them would get the chance to go to schools across our country and share with the students the various things that each branch does. That would be like a dream come true if that could happen.

Especially since we know teachers sure as heck don't do this kind of thing.

.

.....Thank you Chief.

God bless them, most people have no idea of the things they go through to rescue and save someone at greater risk to themselves. There's an Eskimo term "gone missing', fatalistic, yes it is but that's life. There is seldom a chance for a do over.

Montague Island is just about 75 miles out of Seward Alaska, I've been stranded there myself in 4 foot of fresh wet snow for a full week past my departure date, but luckily there was a break in the WX and we got out.

Not so for 3 of my co-workers, they were stranded there for 3 weeks past their departure date, in '81 if memory serves me. They went over in November and got out just before Christmas, they were out of food and struggling hard, reduced to eating seaweed on the beach at low tide.

The Coast Guard had to go ashore and bring them off the Island, they were allowed to bring back their rifles and the clothes they were wearing, everything else stayed behind. They were lucky to get out at all.

You can't believe the turmoil of the fishing season, very rough seas and overloaded boats, someone goes down every season. I long lined up there in my off time, go 30 miles off shore alone in a small craft and you'll understand.

I worked with the Coast Guard in Vietnam. They operated 80' patrol craft and had the Cutter Androscoggin as a mother ship and for fire support. I went aboard the Androscoggin for a 2 day in country R&R. They treated this Army guy like royalty. Good food, hot showers, real laundry facilities and a bunk in the air conditioned infirmary. The only problem was no booze. They were so decent to me that it is still hard to realize after 40 years.

The Coast Guard does an amazing job of protecting and saving lives on both coastal and inland waters throughout America.

Thank you US Coast Guard.
