Palin's Lawyer Denies She Lifted Gingrich Article

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin has been accused of paraphrasing at length from an article co-written by Newt Gingrich when she gave a speech, but her lawyer says proper credit was given.

FOX News

ANCHORAGE, Alaska

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin has been accused of paraphrasing at length from an article co-written by Newt Gingrich when she gave a speech, but her lawyer says proper credit was given to the former House speaker.

Blogger Geoffrey Dunn, who is writing a book about the former Republican vice presidential candidate, made the accusation on the Huffington Post Web site.

Dunn compared Palin's speech introducing conservative talk show host Michael Reagan, son of former President Ronald Reagan, to an Anchorage audience Wednesday to the article urging Republicans to study Reagan, written by Gingrich and Craig Shirley in 2005.

"It is abundantly clear in context, and even in subcontext, that the overview of President Reagan's legacy was attributed to Newt Gingrich," Palin's lawyer, Thomas Van Flein, said.
"Far from 'lifting' or plagiary, this is proper attribution in a political speech," Van Flein said. "The audience was made aware that Mr. Gingrich wrote about President Reagan's legacy, and Gov. Palin attributed her paraphrasing to Mr. Gingrich expressly and did so at the beginning and at the end of the paraphrasing."
Palin twice referenced Gingrich during the speech. Toward the beginning, she said, "Recently, Newt Gingrich, he had written a good article about Reagan."
Later, she said, "What Newt had written in this article, he wrote, 'Remember how refreshing it was with his outrageous directness that Americans loved, and praised and deserved' that Reagan dealt with, with then the troublesome Soviet Union, remember this? His vision for the Cold War? We win, they lose."

Wild Thing's comment.........

What a bunch of BS, as soon as Sarah speaks anywhere she is always beat up by the left....always. They hate her so much. Gov. Palin has to respond, and then the story switches to her being an accused plagiarist, rather than focusing on her criticism of the current administration.

Palin was the only politician in a 2 year period that landed punches on Obama. hahaa The left just can't stand it.

The leftie idiot Dunn at Huffington Post and his ilk are really scraping the bottom of the barrell to even try to make Sarah into something she is not. What an obsessed little queen Dunn is. hahaha

Let's take a look at the Author: Geoffrey Dunn

Two things stand out in the first paragraph, on the Dunn piece at HuffHo. One, the first he accuses her of stealing parts of Newt's piece then he says, Second, this is why we have pussyfoot around with thw world.

She mentioned Gingrich's name, as far as I know and can remember giving credit to an author is all that is required and there is no foul. Second, he talking about appeasement, in other words if we were only nice to the Terrorists they wouldn't be so mean.

This kind of convoluted logic is what got us into this mess in the first place. Thanks to Clinton we are right where we are, now.

Most obvious of all at Huff-Ho they are frighted to death of a Woman, who speaks her mind, is not intimidated by the left, and worst of all She is a (whisper) Conservative. Sarah Palin is probably listed on DHS as a suspected terrorist, LOL , like the rest of us.

So keep talkin Sarah.

I always enjoy hearing Governor Palin talk. She should be President Palin. Again, I did not vote for McCain, I voted for Palin. McCain was just part of the package, and unfortunately along with his campaign staff (I believe) was the reason for Obama winning.
I was putting up another Hannity Palin interview and added this one with it with a thank you and link back.

I once had a Preacher that said you can tell something about a man by what he stands against and who stands against him. We know what Sarah stands against and we know who stands against her. That in itself tells us all we need to know about Sarah; she's a woman of honor and integrity.

One thing seems to stand out above all else with Sarah Palin, she hasn't wavered in her conservative convictions, that has to terrorize the left who expect malleable candidates. She doesn't have the right thinking for the left and she isn't cowed by their threats.

Thomas Sowell said it best.
"It's amazing how much panic one honest man can spread among a multitude of hypocrites."

Her being screwed over by McCain and his troupe for trying to set the conservative tone for the Manchurian Candidate opened a lot of eyes about the 'progressives' a term I prefer to call Communists.

We could all profit with the character of Thomas Sowell as head of the RNC, not that malleable sychophant Steele who wants so bad to fit into that upstate New York Rockefeller clique. Dinero no!

Well said BobF. They are known by the company they keep.

Sarah shows no fear and makes no false apologies. She is a conservative and not a whimpering Rino.. Yes, that scares the Left. It also worries the Repubs because they don't stand on conviction. They stand on compromise.

Within hours of choosing Sarah Palin as his running mate, McCain knew he was overshadowed. His professional handlers did not like that and they undermined and constricted Palin.

I don't know who the next weak-kneed politician the RNC is going to try to foist on us, but if Sarah runs in 2012, that is where the base will turn to.

I think the critical issue in choosing Republican candidates for next year is whether they support Governor Palin. The party may have people who would be better Presidents. She for example may not know the best people to appoint once in office. Alaska also has a different set of problems than the rest of the country; the cold kills the very stupid.

The personal character she has shown has put her in Ronald Reagan’s class already and the media has made her a touchstone for Conservative Government. Like Ronald Reagan before her, if a politician runs away from her now they will run away from conservative principles when the media puts the heat on.

Picking her for VP is the best decision that John McCain ever made.

If Sarah Palin is so silly and irrelevant, why the obsession? Clearly the Left noted her appeal, and are out to eliminate the threat- it’s not like it’s not obvious.

And she’s been highly successful in life while ignoring the left-wing feminist model… this helps to explain the extra dose of venom in the attacks. Of course, the Democrats are plenty afraid of Palin coming-back at them in 2012 with a dynamic and complementary VP like Bobby Jindal… or visa versa.

And they surely have reason to fear her- Palin is the most popular governor in the country… are all those people idiots?

Alaska was a pretty corrupt system until she stepped in. Her reforms took on entrenched politicians (inc. Republicans), a mafioso-style union boss, and Big Oil.

Wouldn’t it have been nice if Obama had been principled and brave enough to confront the corrupt Chicago Democratic Machine?

Or shady political operators like Tony Rezko?

Racist preachers?

Instead of doing business with every last one of them?

Go get em, Sarah- and don’t mind the press, nobody will be listening to them anymore after the pending Obamamania implosion- and once the ties of GE and others with media holdings to the corrupt, Chicago-style Obama administration are fully exposed.

Mark, good catch. And well said too Mark.
That is exactly what has been going on and
why.

Posted by: Wild Thing at June 9, 2009 07:20 PM

Bob A., good one!

Thank you too for putting it at your blog too.
The more people that can see this the better
to let them know she is not going awat.
Big smile!!

Posted by: Wild Thing at June 9, 2009 07:22 PM

BobF., WOW I love that, thank you so much.
I will remember that for the future too.
It says so much Bob.

Posted by: Wild Thing at June 9, 2009 07:33 PM

Jack, your right she stays consistent. That
is what the rino's don't understand, the
fact that it is so obvious when a person
might vote or speak conservative and then
in the next breath sound exactly like a
leftie. Sarah does not do this, she stays
right on target. Thank you for pointing
that out, it is a huge reason she makes
such a difference.

Posted by: Wild Thing at June 9, 2009 07:39 PM

Tom, I love this so much, well said and it
is a huge reason she still draws a crowd
too, your so right.
"Sarah shows no fear and makes no false apologies"

Avitar, excellent point!
This tells us so much and it is a good
test on so many levels.

"I think the critical issue in choosing Republican candidates for next year is whether they support Governor Palin"

Posted by: Wild Thing at June 9, 2009 07:44 PM

Reaganite Republican Resistance, heh heh
exactly!
Why do they turn into immediate hate when
they even know she will be speaking, and
their faces twist into pretzels to try
and speak her name as they say..."I can't
stand her." I have seen people do this
it is almost laughable how their whole
body language changes. hahaa

Of course the left is scared of Sarah Palin. They KNOW if she runs, they lose. She stands clearly and solidly against everything they're for. She will get the conservatives who just couldn't hold their nose tightly enough to vote McCain to the polls. And this country will get fixed.
