'Reid must go,' Say Protesters on Las Vegas Strip ~ Obama Should Too!!!!

'Reid must go,' say protesters on Strip

Las Vegas Review-Journal

As Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and President Barack Obama prepared for a fundraiser Tuesday evening to help get Reid re-elected, about 100 protesters worked the Strip in hopes of preventing just that.

Carrying signs and chanting slogans such as "Heave ho! Reid must go!" the protesters in front of Caesars Palace, where the fundraising concert was to take place, criticized Reid's "tax-and-spend," "big government" ways.

"I'm not a big fan of what's going on in D.C.," said the 6-foot-4, heavily tattooed Dan Stephens, a local tattoo artist who brought his three young daughters and also-heavily-tattooed wife to the protest. "It seems like our representatives have forgotten who hired them."

The mostly Republican protesters said they want representatives who advocate for small government and are against tax increases.

"We need someone who shares our core principles: family, self-sufficiency, low taxes and getting government out of our lives," said Dean Meek, a 51-year-old property manager who was carrying a sign that read: "Don't tax me, bro."

The protest was organized by Our Country Deserves Better PAC, a conservative, California-based political action committee that is campaigning against Reid's re-election.

The committee held a news conference Tuesday morning in Las Vegas to highlight its $100,000 anti-Reid ad campaign. Radio, television and Internet ads calling Reid a tax-and-spender who does not respect the military were airing statewide, timed to coincide with the president's visit.

Many of the protesters Tuesday evening said they heard about the event on talk radio.

Passers-by cheered or jeered. Curious tourists stopped to ask: "Who's Harry Reid?"

Hundreds others lined access roads to Caesars hoping to catch a glimpse of Obama as he made his way to the venue.

"I came down to support Obama. He's such a refreshing change," said Parris Lane, 50, who waved a small American flag and chanted Obama's name in response to the protesters. "We have someone really smart in charge, who makes everyone feel like part of things."

Inside, the line to get into the fundraiser snaked through the casino. Well-dressed concertgoers said they came to support Reid and could not pass up the opportunity to see Obama in person.

"We supported him all the way from Italy," said Giovanni Coinu, a constitutional law professor there who was thrilled that his Vegas vacation coincided with the fundraiser. "We had T-shirts made up, and we followed him all the way to the presidency."
Jeanne, a local, "over-50" business executive who declined to give her last name, said the $300 she forked out for her ticket would be well worth it.
"I wanted to hear what the president had to say about Las Vegas," she said. "Plus, we get entertainment on top of it."

Protesters outside criticized what the president had to say about Las Vegas not long ago, when Obama mentioned Vegas junkets as the type of corporate excess that federal dollars shouldn't be funding.

"Shame on President Obama, pointing fingers at Las Vegas, and here he is campaigning for Harry Reid," said protester Karina Ostenberg, 29.

"Reid needs to stand up for us," she added.

Sharron Angle, a Republican former assemblywoman from Reno who is a possible Reid challenger for 2010, agreed.

"He should at least have defended us," Angle said as she shook protesters' hands.

At the morning news conference, Angle had urged donations to the exploratory committee for her candidacy, saying the strength of the financial support would determine whether she decides to run. Angle declined to disclose how much she has raised so far.

"Money talks," she said. "With Harry Reid, it's going to take more than just good intentions. It's going to take a lot of money to take him out."

Wild Thing's comment.........

Ok so I add the Obama should too to the title. And he should GO! He has been the one to blame for the economy going down hill, for the devastating decline of tourism and business meetings cancelling their trips to Vegas and NO ONE ELSE IS TO BLAME!

Obama is the worst president our country has ever had!!!!

This is insane. It's going to be awhile before the American People wake up. If he's so damn smart why does he need a Teleprompter.

'Everyone feels a part of things'. Where the hell has this woman been living under a rock. We the people have no say in what is going on at all. The Soutpiel 'pied piper'

Reid must go!!! Ha, hey didn't the voters of Nevada give us this Socialist by their mandate?

The State flipped in 2006, proving they didn't do their homework on the ideology of the Democrats. Now they are bleating like a muzzy sheep about to be slaughtered.

There was a midterm vote in California last week, only 23% of the voters got out to do their civic duty, 77% sat on their apathetic "hog in the trough" asses. Likewise in most other states. We have got to admit the commies had a better turnout.

Oh, yes, let's take a peek at Dingy Harry: It's revealing. All about character and values.

How many of Nevada's voters looked to see the fact that ol' Dingy Harry was hanging out with the members of the CPC, not officially a member, but a symbiotic twin of Nancy Pelosi, the CPC had clout and Harry needed more Socialist power.

Suck it up Nevada, you bought him and that dark invader that came with him. Maybe the Udall clan can lend a clue into nepotism and the effects of Polygamy and dirty politics in the Southwest.

What is it with those 3 or 4 states, Nevada, New Mexico, Arizona, even Utah? They all became dependent on FDR and Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) a public work relief program, his Public Works Administration (PWA)i.e. Reichsarbeitsdienst. Hoover Dam, JPL at Jackass flats, Alamagordo, all government projects, on an on ad infinitem, yet nothing but restriction on private enterprises, including farming.

Protectionism fought for by the Udall's closed competition from other states in mining and related industry, the Udall's fought to create wilderness areas, reserves and ANWR, to block exploration and development of natural resources, not in Nevada but everywhere else. So they would have a monopoly on mining and resources in Nevada, didn't work out too good when they crawled into bed with the environmentalists and the Nimby's. Kinda screwed themselves away from the table it looks like.

Like most politicos including Harry, they are in government to provide government subsidies to their districts, not championing or promoting self sustaining industries in the private sector, quite the contrary, got to have the populace dependent on them.

Go Harry, support the gambling industry and taxes in a state like Nevada that can't even run a whorehouse with government control.

Mark, yes, they are crazy so stupid it is scary.

Like the night of the living dead
walking the streets, working in offices
and all with brains that just do not
function, that is how I think of these
people that voted for Obama.

Jack, I agree, we moved from there in 2003
and Reid had won then and we were so
disgusted. We saw when he was like and
how people were all for his kind of
liberalism. It was right around the same
time they started to have protests against
the troops too. Those two things go
together, lefites and protesting the
troops. grrrrrr

Thanks for the information Jack.

Here's a small update about Obama's visit here, and the negative comment that Obama made about Vegas.

In addition to Gibbons trying to a moment to speak with Obama about his negative comments of Las Vegas, Mayor Goodman also has been trying to speak with Obama. I guess the glorious WH called Goodman over Memorial Day. The Chief of Staff said that Obama would "clarify the comments" he made during his visit here in Vegs. Goodman said Obama didn't do that while he was here and Obama did exactly what he told Americans to not do. Obama came here for one reason only, to do business. Now while Obama was here, he was suppose to do a "town meeting" however, that town meeting was on the base, and thus only those who are in the military could attend. I haven't heard anything about if the "meeting" occurred, or what was said.

Paris Lane and Jeanne helped jeja raise $2,000,000 for dingy harry. Nice.

[jeja: jug-eared-jack-ass. The only way I will refer to the usurper sitting in the highest, most powerful office of the United States of America. I can't even bring myself to use capital letters...]

Hi BT in SA, great to see you.

Thank you so much, that is exactly what
he is. It would be so fantastic if he could
be kept from a win this time and from now
on.It would be the first step, then Pelosi
next then Obama. tah dah!

Thanks WT! I'd also like to point out that I think Mayor Goodman is right. Obama is doing exactly what he told CEOs to not do. Did Obama not use AF1 to come to Las Vegas for business? Did he not come to LV for PERSONAL business that has nothing to do with running this country? By that I mean, how does Obama justify coming to LV for a fund raising dinner for Reid? How is that directly related to running our country and how is that Presidential business? And then Obama hops back on AF1 and goes to Hollywood, and attends a fund raiser for the DNC? Again, how is this related to running this country? Is this not PERSONAL business? Obama is guilty of wasting taxpayers money on flying around the country for Democratic's fund raising purposes. And how is that official Presidential business?
