Iraq Blames Al Qaida Revival on U.S. Release of 4,000 Insurgents

Iraq blames Al Qaida revival on U.S. release of 4,000 insurgents

BAGHDAD

Iraq has launched another offensive against Al Qaida, raiding suspected AQI strongholds throughout the Diyala province, capturing insurgents and confiscating suicide vests.

The Iraqi offensive was launched amid an AQI suicide bombing campaign in Baghdad and Mosul. Officials said AQI has revived its operational cells and intensified operations as the U.S. military prepares to withdraw from cities by June 30.

Iraqi military spokesman Maj. Gen. Atta Qassim said the resurgence of Al Qaida was fueled by the U.S. release of nearly 4,000 insurgents in 2009. Qassim said the released insurgents have been returning to both Al Qaida and organized crime.

On May 6, at least 17 people were killed in a two car bombings at a market in southern Baghdad, populated mostly by Sunnis. Officials acknowledged that security at the market was light.
Officials said the Iraqi security forces were capable of battling AQI. But they acknowledged that authorities were hampered by a shortage of intelligence.

Officials said more than 50 suspected insurgents were killed in nearly one week of the Iraqi operation.

"We've seized weapons, included suicide vests," Iraqi Col. Salam Ahmed Naji said.

Security forces also captured more than 60 suspects, including three women, in Diyala. Officials said the province has been the launching pad for AQI insurgency attacks in Baghdad.

On May 4, 31 insurgency suspects were killed in Iraqi operations. Officials said scores more were injured and killed since the operation began on May 1.

Wild Thing's comment.......

Things in Iraq were calming down. Our troops were making huge progress with the surge........right up until the Obamaeffect! Yes the Obamaeffect, he just had to go further then speak of a withdrawal as Bush did, he had to give a date and top that off with releasing terrorists. Then in the next Obamaeffect he brings up the interrogation memos and then the photos.

Obama has empowered the terrorists with his Obamaeffect. And in doing so he has pulled the trigger aimed at our troops.

Dear God please make Obama let the military run this war and NOT Obama!!!

Interesting, released 4000 of the enemy before the war was over? Do not remember hearing that in the news before. I assume pbo had something to do with that. Kinda like releasing gitmo prisoners in the US.

The attacks in Iraq have increased since Obama released this Non-uniformed combatants. Evidently in Berry's world NUC means innocent.

Under what premise does berry justify the release of these 4000 terrorists back into the war zone ?

This is nuts.

Isn't it funny that as soon as our illustrious leader gave a date for withdrawal, the enemy started hitting harder again? Just like Vietnam, all over again. You don't go giving the enemy the game plan! As Forrest Gump would say, Stupid is as Stupid does.

Wild thing:

This represents a level of stupidity so monumental as to raise suspicions of nefarious intent. Why did they not just turn over the prisoners to the Iraqi government?

Obama's philosophical godfather, Jimmy Carter, however does it all through stupidity and frequently pays a steep price, but never learns. We have to recognize that Barry is the first affirmative action President. Based on this and other decisions he maybe also be the first Special Needs President too. Joe Biden is certainly a case of hiring the handicapped.

Treason pure and simple, but we veterans are used to the backstabbing, duplicitous nature of a spineless, gutless Congress comprised of eunuchs in both houses and both parties that will undermine the efforts of the fighter on the battlefield by pulling a stunt like this. We as citizens can't hold them accountable under wartime clauses because they haven't declared a war since 1945, all we can do is bury our dead, lament our losses and try to vote this scum out of office.

Iraq is totally justified in their claim as to the cause of the terrorist escalation, rightfully blame Pelosi-Reid and Obama's administration. They are the ones who pulled the rug out from under the Iraqi people. It sure is a familiar trait of the Democrats, the party of UN sovereignty.

The War Powers Resolution AKA The Cooper-Church Amendment, required the President to consult with Congress before the start of any hostilities and to remove U.S. armed forces from those hostilities if Congress had not declared war or passed a resolution authorizing the use of force within 60 days. G.W.Bush consulted Congress and they authorized the use of force, from that point on they undermined all efforts through denial and the use of a traitorous media. The The War Powers Resolution was vetoed by President Nixon, but Congress overrode the veto.

Once again Congress in their bush derangement syndrome all deny ever authorizing the use of force, or the reasons for their decision to allow the Iraqi invasion and since then have undermined the efforts of our forces.

The Case-Church Amendment forbid any support for the Vietnamese and they fell into Communist control as a result. Both resolutions left our allies and our troops out to dry.

These M'fers want my vote and support - Hell No!!!

I have been looking up the 'Status of Forces' agreement with Iraq. The agreement says that any prisoner the US holds after Jan 1, 2009 that is not charged under Iraqi law will be set free. It was not pbo that did it. Iraq negotiated the aggrement, so it should not complain about it. Why did we bother taking prisoners any way? But why is it so hard to charge them under Iraqi law. Taking up arms against the government is treason. Rather simple if you ask me.

Odin, I had not heard about it before
either. It really caught me off guard.
I guess that was the top number they
had not only at GITMO but some of the
other places that have been mentioned
that were hidden prisons. That was
something Obama insisted on right away
was to empty out the hidden prisons.
I know very little about those and
only saw them discussing it on the
various news channels.

Mark, yes it is nuts.

He really is on the side of the enemy.

Lynn, your so right, it is a lot like
that. He must have studied the play book
for Vietnam and our poliicians.
Grrrrrrrrrrr

Avitar, I agree. Oh and I read somewhere,
I wish I had saved it. The article said
Obama can't stand to be referred to as
" he is like Jimmy Carter" hahaha I wonder
why.

I think Soros and the Saudi's are pulling
a lot of Obama's strings.
