White House: Obama Opposes 'Fairness Doctrine' Revival

A White House spokesman tells FOXNews.com President Obama opposes any move to bring back the so-called Fairness Doctrine.

President Obama opposes any move to bring back the so-called Fairness Doctrine, a spokesman told FOXNews.com Wednesday.

"As the president stated during the campaign, he does not believe the Fairness Doctrine should be reinstated," White House spokesman Ben LaBolt told FOXNews.com.

That was after both senior adviser David Axelrod and White House press secretary Robert Gibbs left open the door on whether Obama would support reinstating the doctrine.

Obama Declares War on Conservative Talk Radio

American Thinker

November 2008
By Jim Boulet, Jr.

Barack Obama sought to silence his critics during his 2008 campaign. Now, with the ink barely dry on this November's ballots, Obama has begun a war against conservative talk radio.

Obama is on record as saying he does not plan an exhumation of the now-dead "Fairness Doctrine". Instead, Obama's attack on free speech will be far less understood by the general public and accordingly, far more dangerous.

The late community organizer Saul Alinsky taught his followers to strike hard from an unexpected direction, an approach known as Alinsky jujitsu.

Obama himself not only worked as an organizer for an Alinsky offshoot organization, Chicago's Developing Communities Project, but would go on to teach classes in Alinsky's beliefs and methods.

"Alinsky jujitsu" as applied to conservative talk radio means using vague rules already on the books to threaten any station which dares to air conservative programs with the loss of its valuable broadcast license.

Team Obama and the "localism" weapon

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) rule in question is called "localism." Radio and television stations are required to serve the interests of their local community as a condition of keeping their broadcast licenses.

Obama needs only three votes from the five-member FCC to define localism in such a way that no radio station would dare air any syndicated conservative programming.

Localism is one of the rare issues on which Obama himself has been outspoken.

On September 20, 2007, Obama submitted a pro-localism written statement to an FCC hearing held at the Chicago headquarters of Rev. Jesse Jackson Sr.'s Operation Push.

Furthermore, the Obama transition team knows all about the potential of localism as a means of silencing conservative dissent. The head of the Obama transition team is John Podesta, President and CEO of the Center for American Progress.

In 2007, the Center for American Progress issued a report, The Structural Imbalance of Political Talk Radio. This report complained that there was too much conservative talk on the radio because of "the absence of localism in American radio markets" and urged the FCC to "[e]nsure greater local accountability over radio licensing.

Wild Thing's comment.......

If we look at what Obama did during the campaign, his intimidation of people, interviewers on radio shows like the ones here in Florida that he complained about and they were silenced. The Team Obama thing in PA and Missouri and how Missouri Gov. Matt Blunt strongly criticized Barack Obama's campaign for their attempts to intimidate those who would speak out against Obama with stickers on their cars, talk radio, signs or even something a non Obama person might say, etc. Their names were to be turned in and arrested even for the day. the Obama campaign operates behind the scenes, the brutal ruthlessness, the smear tactics abounded during the campaign. I will never as long as I live forget all of that. I never dreamed that kind of thing would happen in our country.

Obama wants localism, it is the stealth move. Just like all the garbage in this porkulus package. Keeping it from being read and forcing everyone to vote on it unread. Obama saying there was a crisis over and over in every speech leading up to last Friday.

I truly believe B. Hussein Obama and all this talk about the fairness doctrine ( from Democrats ) is currently a smoke and mirrors move because localism is about to be implemented.

Think of it like a magician. Localism is in the left hand, while everybody is trying to get you to focus in on the right hand which contains the fairness doctrine.

“no no, look over here. That’s right”

Why would anyone not believe that he'd go after the Public airwaves since he's been following the Saul Alinsky playbook to the letter all this time? Of course he is! And not in a way that will be easy to fight. That was the whole point - to slide socialism into the mainstream stealthily and without much fanfare, with the media helping in their silence.
The whole frog in the pot coming to a slow boil exercise. And the scariest part is that it seems to be working too well, esp with the Julios and Henrietta's of this country.

Let's hear it for fairness comrades: ABC, CBS, NBC, Air America, MSNBC, MSLSD, PBS, NPR radio, CNN, M-TV, VH-1, The VIEW FEMINAZIS, Bill Mahr HBO, an BET! Un F'N believable?

At this point, if I were a Republican leader, I would propose amendments to this non-sense, that would severely restrict the main stream media. You want to censor talk radio, we will censor your media. Hell its worth a try.

I believe him when he says that he opposes the fairness doctrine. It is way too whishy washy for him and his followers. Henry Waxman is looking to extend the restrictions on kiddy porn on the Internet to critisism of Obama. You may have already won jail time and lost your job by reading this.

Yankeemom, I agree, this is something that will be done in a very sneaky way I think and very hard to fight against.

Darth, it sure is, there will be backlash that is for sure.
I know Mike Pence has been working hard on not letting this happen, I have posted about it several times.

Mark, your so right, and Mike Pence has been doing that, I forget the name of his petition and his Bill but he has really been at this for awhile now.
