Jim DeMint Statement on Holder Nomination for Attorney General

his website

February 2, 2009 - WASHINGTON, D.C.

"Today, U.S. Senator Jim DeMint (R-South Carolina) made the following statement regarding his decision to oppose President Obama’s nomination of Eric Holder for U.S. Attorney General:
“The Attorney General is our nation’s top law enforcement official, and Americans deserve better than someone who helped pardon terrorists and tax cheats and who is hostile to Second Amendment rights,” said Senator DeMint.
As assistant U.S. attorney general during the Clinton Administration, Holder recommended that Marc Rich, one of the FBI’s “Ten Most Wanted Fugitives” at the time, receive a presidential pardon. Rich was indicted in 1983 for evading more than $48 million in taxes. He was charged with 51 counts of tax fraud and for running illegal oil deals with Iran during the 1979-1980 hostage crisis.
Holder repeatedly pressed his subordinates at Department of Justice to drop their opposition to a controversial 1999 pardon of 16 members of two Puerto Rican terrorist groups convicted of bank robbery, possession of explosives and a conspiracy that was linked to more than 146 bombings in the U.S., multiple armed robberies, six murders and hundreds of injuries.
The two largest Second Amendment advocacy groups, Gun Owners of America (GOA) and the National Rifle Association (NRA), representing more than 4.3 million Americans, both opposed the confirmation of Holder. He joined an amicus brief opposing an individual’s right to keep and bear arms in the District of Columbia vs. Heller U.S. Supreme Court case. "

WIMPY Lindsey Graham Supports Holder for Attorney General

his website

"Mr. Holder understands the threat to our nation posed by terrorism. In the Judiciary Committee’s hearing on the nomination, Mr. Holder agreed with me the United States is undoubtedly at war with a vicious and shadowy enemy, and that the war began before the attacks of September 11, 2001.
“Mr. Holder agreed with me as well that the battlefield in the War on Terror is the entire globe. It is not limited to the combat zones of Afghanistan and Iraq, but also includes the financial system, through which terrorist networks are funded; and the internet, through which terrorists communicate and spread their message of violence and hatred. Indeed, the tragic events of 9/11 proved that the battlefield even extends within our nation’s own borders. The question of how best to win the War on Terror is the most profound issue facing the next Attorney General. Mr. Holder understands the nature of this enemy and this conflict.
“There are some who argue that Mr. Holder’s previous mistakes should bar him from serving as Attorney General. In expressing my support for Mr. Holder, I do not mean to minimize those misjudgments. Indeed, Mr. Holder faces his past mistakes fully — admitting them, learning from them, and promising to exercise better judgment in the future. While I understand concern with Mr. Holder’s past errors, it would be a mistake in its own right to reject on that basis this qualified nominee who comprehends the challenge our nation faces in defeating terrorism.

“I look forward to working with President Obama and Mr. Holder to fashion a system of detention for the War on

Terror involving all three branches of government and of which all Americans can be proud. Mr. Holder and I agree that in order to maintain the critical moral high ground in this war, we must treat detainees fairly, with more process than they would necessarily provide us. We also agree that we must not release dangerous warriors back to the fight against our nation. Criminalizing this war would be a terrible mistake, and Mr. Holder understands that.

“Four years ago, President Obama, then Senator Obama, stated on the floor of the Senate that the test of a nominee for Attorney General is, “whether that person is ready to put the Constitution of the people before the political agenda of the President.” Eric Holder meets that test and for that reason I will support his nomination.”

Wild Thing's comment.....

I am just stunned that Jeff Sessions voted for this thug. And I am not surprised by McCain voting yes but Saxby?? Sarah Palin did all she could to help him get elected.

I forget. Is he one of the tax cheats, lobbyists, Marxist activists, or just another one of the scheister lawyers?...just kidding, But my gosh this Obama's change are all people that should be in jail....at least that!

The Clinton retreads will now get a chance to completely screw up what they missed the first time.

There goes the 2nd Amendment. Say bye-bye to gun rights. This cabinet is full of criminals! No one remembers that Holder was instrumental in Waco, Ruby Ridge and Elian Gonzales along with his boss, Janet Reno and the Clintonistas.

Nice spelling of the word "schiester"; I am so stealing that.

OTOH, Tell me again why I voted for Alexander and Corker. THAT's a mistake I won't make twice!

Holder is one of the worst threats to the 2nd Amendment in a long time.

Kit Bond from Missouri was suppose to be a Conservative and strong supporter of the 2nd Amendment. I'm very disappointed in his vote for Holder.

One of the nurses my wife works with is a Male nurse, who is a 60's throw back, who voted for obama. She said to him, obama is going to put severe restrictions on Your guns. (I guess he's a big hunter, etc.) And his response , 'Oh no he's not, He said so.' These people are mind numbed and have drank the kool ade and are programmed to believe anything the Usurper tells them.

They fear an armed citizenery, it is a threat to their existance. It means they do not have absolute power over the masses. This will not be tolerated in a socialists regime.

Evan in Australia they took away their guns, and the common citizen has lamented it ever since. It won't stop here they will pursue this until every gun is confiscated. That is their aim.

Luckily my two senators from Texas voted against Holder. If there is a strong attack on the Second Amendment by the Obama administration, it could be enough to cause a public revolt. I will not register my weapons. If that makes me a criminal, so be it.

Buy firearms and ammo now while you can. There is a nationwide run on shooting supplies and some firearms and ammo are in short supply or just not available. Buy what you can get. Maybe you can trade it later(trading guns really screws up the Feds paper trail, ha ha).

Oh, I wish I was in the Land of Cotton,
Good times there are not forgottrn,
Look Away, Look Away, Look Away, Dixie Land.
In Dixie Land where I was born in,
Early on one frosty mornin'
Look Away, Look Away, Look Away, Dixie Land.

I wish I was Dixie!
Hooray! Hooray!
In Dixie Land I'll Make My Stand,
To Live And Die In Dixie!
Away, Away, Away Down South In Dixie!
Away, Away, Away Down South In Dixie!

If the CSA won the Civil War, The CSA would be #1 in the world today while the damn yankees taxed and regulated themselves into oblivion. The South is the Heart of America.

Barry had better be aware that the overwhelming majority of The Military are Southerners, and 2/3 of The Military are Texans. A Lot of Military bases are down here Fort Jackson, Fort Knox, Fort Sill, Fort Benning, etc, and Fort Hood the Largest is in Kileen, Texas. Think THAT through obama and hastings.

Here's one for you John, same tune as Dixie: The Bonnie Blue Flag is another good one.

Southrons, hear your country call you,
Up, lest worse than death befall you!
To arms! To arms! To arms, in Dixie!
Lo! all the beacon-fires are lighted,--
Let all hearts be now united!
To arms! To arms! To arms, in Dixie

Hear the Northern thunders mutter!
Northern flags in South winds flutter!
To arms! To arms! To arms, in Dixie!
Send them back your fierce defiance!
Stamp upon the cursed alliance!
To arms! To arms! To arms, in Dixie!

Dittos to Senator DeMint.

“The Attorney General is our nation’s top law enforcement official, and Americans deserve better than someone who helped pardon terrorists and tax cheats and who is hostile to Second Amendment rights,” said Senator DeMint.

Eric Holder will never use the word, nor enforce the law, when it comes to granting amnesty and a fast path to citizenship to millions of "illegal" aliens.

I sent both McCain and Kyl a letter letting them know that their 'Yes" vote will not be dismissed in their next election and that they both slapped ALL Law Abiding American Citizens in the face by supporting Holder who will not respect the Constitution.

And the Republican Party wonder's why they lose support and members.......

Lynn, your right and we should never forget that too.

OH gosh Lynn, Janet Reno is one that Obama has not reguested yet from the Clinton years. hahaa Yikes I hope her name will not be on his mind for something.

Posted by: Wild Thing at February 3, 2009 06:46 PM

Rick, giggle thank you and please do.

Same here for Florida, we are sadly lacking real conservatives to vote for.

Posted by: Wild Thing at February 3, 2009 06:48 PM

BobF., what gets me too are the way these conservatives run hot or cold. They stand up and vote conservative on some things then I cheer them on and email and thank them. Then the next vote they turn around and vote like a dem. It really gets frustrating.

Mark, wow, he sure is going to have more surprises as he wakes up along the way. Thank you for sharing about the male nurse that works with your wife.

Posted by: Wild Thing at February 3, 2009 06:56 PM

Tom, thanks. My Dad always had some of his guns that were not registered. I remember him telling one day it might happen that our government might change so drastically that they will come for his guns and he said that he wanted to plan for that. That was over 40 years ago he said that.

Glenn Cassel AMH1(AW) USN RET, I don't think Obama has an original thought, his choices sure show that with his list all from the Clinton era.

Posted by: Wild Thing at February 3, 2009 07:08 PM

Mark, that is great.

Posted by: Wild Thing at February 3, 2009 07:11 PM

Les, I am so proud of DeMint.

Posted by: Wild Thing at February 3, 2009 07:12 PM

AZRobert, that is good, they need to know how we feel and we are watching and expect a heck of a lot better from them.
