Two ex-Guantanamo Inmates Appear in Al-Qaeda Video

Two ex-Guantanamo inmates appear in Al-Qaeda video

WASHINGTON

(AFP)

Two men released from the US "war on terror" prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba have appeared in a video posted on a jihadist website, the SITE monitoring service reported.

One of the two former inmates, a Saudi man identified as Abu Sufyan al-Azdi al-Shahri, or prisoner number 372, has been elevated to the senior ranks of Al-Qaeda in Yemen, a US counter-terrorism official told AFP.

Three other men appear in the video, including Abu al-Hareth Muhammad al-Oufi, identified as an Al-Qaeda field commander. SITE later said he was prisoner No. 333.

A Pentagon spokesman, Commander Jeffrey Gordon, on Saturday declined to confirm the SITE information.

"We remain concerned about ex-Guantanamo detainees who have re-affiliated with terrorist organizations after their departure," said Gordon.

"We will continue to work with the international community to mitigate the threat they pose," he said.

On the video, al-Shihri is seen sitting with three other men before a flag of the Islamic State of Iraq, the front for Al-Qaeda in Iraq.

"By Allah, imprisonment only increased our persistence in our principles for which we went out, did jihad for, and were imprisoned for," al-Shihri was quoted as saying.

Al-Shiri was transferred from Guantanamo to Saudi Arabia in 2007, the US counter-terrorism official said.

The other men in the video are identified as Commander Abu Baseer al-Wahayshi and Abu Hureira Qasm al-Rimi (also known as Abu Hureira al-Sana'ani).

The Defense Department has said as many as 61 former Guantanamo detainees -- about 11 percent of 520 detainees transferred from the detention center and released -- are believed to have returned to the fight.

The latest case highlights the risk the new US administration faces as it moves to empty Guantanamo of its remaining 245 prisoners and close the controversial detention camp within a year.

Wild Thing's comment........

We show our weakness in releasing these enemy combatants and weakness begets more terrorist action. Obama’s election proves to the Islamist terrorists that America has no stomach for the fight and serves to increase theirs. That, historically, has been the record of radical Islam.

B.Hussein Obama is playing softball with these goons. These terrorists see humanitarian compassion as weakness, not morality or justice. The PC, appeasement policies of the leftist in the WH will make matters even worse.

I said once before on here, IF they have to lelt these subhumans go then before they do it put them to sleep and put tracker implants in every one of them. There ought to be a way to do it that would not look like anything was done to them so when they wake up from the forced sleep they have no clue what was done to them. The sleep could be induced by something in their food so even that would not raise suspicion.

Subhumans... NO! Try animals because humans have a CONSCIENCE (excluding the ones in Washington DCCCCP), and animals attack on instinct. These islamofascist animals need to be put out of their rabid misery - period! The line "War on Terror" disgusts me because it should be referred to as "our war on islamofascism!"
Ironic that in WW II we called the Germans NAZIS and KRAUTS and JERRYS, and the Japonese JAPS and NIPS and MEATBALLS.... But now, our enemy are ...
TERRORISTS?

THANK YOU, AMERICAN LIBERALS.

Again, the left side of the aisle proves that they do not really care about this country - only votes to power. I don't know who's worse: the Dems or the "terrorists". Both are extremely morally bankrupt.

In warfare prisoners are almost necessary. They are an excellent source of information, especially in this War on Terror which is a guerrilla war.

However, now that the politicians(lawyers) are interfering with our military operations and turning prisoners loose as well as defining the methods used to interrogate, the military may have to kill rather than capture. Or maybe a field interrogation, then the terrorist is killed while escaping.

The Dems can really screw up a good war!

This is what is going to happen. As soon as they are released they will run back to there groups and prepare to re attack us.

Now this dumbshit obama wants to release them where the hell are they gong to put them ?

With less than one percent of all Americans serving in our Military and the rest of the nation being dumbed down in the liberal indoctrination centers, they've been led to believe these terrorists are only breaking civil laws and should be treated as common criminals. In what way are these terrorists any different than international mercenaries? The motive may not be money but the promise of martyrdom and the bottom line both are combatants, the only difference being the uniforms of their alliance. For certain they are not Legionaires like those of the French Foreign Legion, these terrorists come from all Muhammedan nations and not just a few from our own homeland. They are enemy combatants regardless of their homeland, they have declared war on the United States and on the western civil societies, especially Israel. They are not civilian criminals, they are mercenary terrorists, trained and funded by sworn enemies of our state. The real problem is the lack of moral conviction that after 6 years of captivity there is no will to execute those that are beyond rehabilitation. Line 'em up and execute them. Close Gitmo but leave the grounds as a burial ground for those executed terrorists. Before you all cry about the Geneva Conventions, or world opinion remember there have never been any of our captured soldiers released alive by the ragheads, not even the dead. World opinion will never favor the Uniterd States, our media will insure that.

Barack Obama by word and deed has demonstrated that not only doesn't he want to win the war on terror he doesn't see it as a war. He will meet with anyone and when push comes to shove he will be the great appeaser in the likes of Neville Chamberlain.

Barack Obama's announcement that he will close Gitmo in a year without a plan on how to accomplish the task shows how little that he understands terrorists and how clueless he is on what is involved in relocating and maintaining these high risk detainees somewhere else. One minor point that he and those who agree with him may not have considered for the relocation is that Geneva Convention rules and U.S. law forbid housing enemy combatants with military prisoners charged with criminal offenses. So, practically, where do you put them?

Conservatives need to keep the pressure on Obama to provide checkpoint reports on what he is doing with all of the detainees and what it will cost in money and diversion of security personnel.

Darth, your so right, the other day Nick and I were watching an old movie and they referred to the Japanesse as Japs. It was a war movie and we started to laugh, because now we keep being told to flower up the language that has anything to do with the war we are in. What a hgue difference from then and now.

Dave Hollenbeck, that would be a perfect caption. Thanks Dave and good to see you.

Yankeemom, yes most of the time it is hard to tell a difference.
I told my husband well the only good thing is we can shoot back if it is a terrorist. heh heh

Chief, I agree, I love the idea of a chip inside of each one of them.

Posted by: Wild Thing at January 26, 2009 06:36 PM

Tom, love this it makes a great quote....."The Dems can really screw up a good war!"

I agree Tom, we need information. I wish there was some secret way of putting them someplace Obama and the dems would not know about, get the information the terrorist has and then do like you said too. If they have to put a few in prison afterward just to keep the dems happy then add the chip so they can zoom in on the person k-pow once they are released if they cause trouble.

Mark, I heard someone suggested Alcateraz island prison and Nancy Pelosi put that idea down immediately. hahahha

Posted by: Wild Thing at January 26, 2009 06:42 PM

Jack, sounds ok to me.

I thought the Geneva Convention did not even apply to the war we are in since it is not with one main country and the terrorists are from all over the place. Like we have troops at the Horn of Africa, Philippines etc. not just Iraq and Afghanistan. The Geneva Convention is kind of confusing to me but I think that is correct about it not applying right?

Posted by: Wild Thing at January 26, 2009 06:46 PM

Les...... "Conservatives need to keep the pressure on Obama"..... I think this will be harder and harder to find. Unless it would be a politican maybe.

Posted by: Wild Thing at January 26, 2009 06:55 PM

Darth, HUGE ditto to that.
