Republicans Blast Pelosi for Politicizing Intelligence

Republicans Blast Pelosi for Politicizing Intelligence

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s decision this week to pack the House intelligence committee with Democrats — despite a clear recommendation from the 9/11 commission to keep politics out of intelligence matters — has roiled Republicans.

Concerned by reports of the “politicization” of intelligence, the 9/11 commission recommended in July 2004 that the House and Senate intelligence committees be almost evenly balanced, regardless of the number of Republicans and Democrats in Congress.

“The majority party’s representation on this committee should never exceed the minority’s representation by more than one,” the final report of the 9/11 Commission states on page 421.

The issue of how many Republicans and Democrats should sit on the intelligence committees is not just inside baseball. It goes to the heart of the way national security issues will be debated in the next administration, and how oversight will be conducted in Congress.

“We want to work together with president-elect Obama on matters of national intelligence, but the decision by Democratic leaders to make policymaking and oversight at the House Intelligence committee more partisan undermines that effort,” House minority leader John Boehner, R-OH, said on Wednesday.

“In the last Congress, Republicans led bipartisan efforts to strip all earmarks from the annual intelligence bill and pass terrorist surveillance legislation to help keep America safe,” Boehner added. “And now Democratic leaders are seeking political advantage on a committee charged with protecting the American people.”

The composition of Congressional committees is decided during the early days of the new Congress in January, as the recent election results are factored in.

Keeping intelligence free of politicization will be important in the next administration as key national security issues are debated, in particular Iran.

Wild Thing's comment........

The Dems play for keeps and don’t give a hoot about “bipartisanship”.

"Nancy Pelosi’s decision this week to pack the House intelligence committee with Democrats"

Just a question...... what does Nancy Pelosi know about knows about intelligence. She is going to get us killed.

NMacy Pelosi knows nothing about intelligence and proves it every time she opens her stupid mouth!!!! You have to have some intelligence yourself to be able to understand the larger national security issues. Obviously she is lacking!!!!

Wonder if Obama will have the balls to confront her on many issues like this. After all, he was the one preaching transperancy and bipartisanship!!! Probably not!!! Let's just hope that enough conservative Republicans, and Independants for that matter, will be able to maintain some balance. Otherwise, this country is royally screwed!!!!

Without hesitation she is going to do just that! We. Are. So. Screwed.

Good grief - why can't we just split the United States in two. Let the democrat's have the "west," and let the rest of us have the "east." Build a wall. Keep them - the democrats - out along with the rest of the riff raff [illegals AND a particular religion that I don't want to spell out - but it is not the Presbyterians!]. THAT is exactly what is going to have to happen...

Like the skunk said when the wind changed, it all comes back to me now. Politicizing Intelligence??? Everything the 110th congress has done has been politicized and obstructive, even bringing back their biggest obstructionist, Tom Daschle for the 111th Congress. The only difference is Pelosi and Reid have had a two year head start at doing nothing productive, it's a turf issue that will hurt the nation.

Sometimes it's painful but you have to let it fall on it's ass. Rest assured it will.

I had the good fortune to be saddled with a boss that knew it all and the jobs all had to be done precisely his way. His arrogance had a 48hr window to do an R&R of a heavy piece of power equipment, he interfered with the most knowledgeable crew around, insisting that they make a lift that was dangerous for his expediency, one that side loaded the 100ton crane and it locked itself down under severe stress, the job sat that way for well over the 48hrs, we all asked him "What should we do?", each of us knowing what to do but not offering to bail his sorry ass out. Once his royal highness left the site, one of the mechanics went out on the beam and hand rolled the coupling backward until the side load was removed, we reset the MCC and the crane was restarted, we then performed the R&R smoothly with out his 'supervision'. That job garnered him so much good will amongst his peers that to our delight he was 'promoted' to another crew entirely.

It is what one would expect from a traitor.

Hey, to the Democrats earmarks and power are more important than national security.

Nancy Pelosi, Barack Obama, and all of the white flag waving appeaser Defeatocrats are nothing less than traitors to the country. The 9/11 Commission covered up the roles of Bill Clinton (Dem) and Democrats in Congress and their various acts of omission and commission in the events that happened that day of our national tragedy. Nancy Pelosi is only repeating the Democrat's history and failures.
