Russia Alarmed by US-Poland Defense Missile Deal, Calls Poland "a target"

Russia alarmed by US-Poland defense missile deal, calls Poland "a target"

The signing of an agreement that allows the United States to build a missile defense shield in Poland amid the backdrop of the invasion of Georgia drew severe criticism from Russia on Friday, who said that the deal is aimed at it.

In the strongest threat Russia has issued against a plan to establish missile defense elements along the borders of former Soviet ally nations, Russia's deputy chief of general staff, Colonel-General Anatoly Nogovitsyn, warned that Poland has become a "target for attack" and that "such targets are destroyed as a first priority."

Addressing a news conference with German Chancellor Angela Merkel in the Russian resort of Sochi, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said the deal "clearly demonstrates what we had said earlier - the deployment has the Russian Federation as its target."

The United States' chief negotiator of the deal, John Rood views the agreement important for the security of his country, Poland, and its NATO allies.

Russia's envoy to NATO, Dmitry Rogozin was quoted as saying that the project has "no relation to the Iranian missile threat but is aimed against Russia."

Wild Thing's comment..............

I think General Moronovitch made a mistake.

Putin on "the greatest geopolitical catastrophe of the [20th] century":

"World democratic opinion has yet to realize the alarming implications of President Vladimir Putin's State of the Union speech on April 25, 2005, in which he said that the collapse of the Soviet Union represented the 'greatest geopolitical catastrophe of the century.'

Hoover Digest

From the Sino-Russian Joint Statement of April 23, 1997:

"The two sides [China and Russia] shall, in the spirit of partnership, strive to promote the multipolarization of the world and the establishment of a new international order."

Poor Poland. I feel for them. How dare Puddin' pants act like this? Who gives him the right to be such an ass? I have family on the Polish side of the Baltic sea (used to be known as Pommerania or Prussia.) and I'm not about to let Puddin Pants hurt them! It almost sounds like Puddin' wants to start WW3 and the innocents of this world will die because some man couldn't contain his power.
Whoever wins this election better have some balls to deal with PeeWee Handjob and Puddin'. Otherwise, we're going to be in a world of hurt. Diplomacy isn't going to work this time.

Actually what Russia said was irrelevant since something that would lead to level of attack would almost surely be nuclear. Missiles would be airborne and bombers would be launched, at least the few bombers we have left.

The Cold War is back as the hibernating Bear has awaken and is sharpening his claws. The mighty Strategic Air Command that kept the Bear in check is no longer here, its infrastructure gone and 2/3 of its bombers chopped into scrap. Thank you President Bush-1.

Amen Bob. Putin has restarted the Cold War. Russia is weaker than it was before and NATO is weaker. It may be up to the former Soviet satellite nations to unite as the main front against Russia. I also wonder if the Russian people will be as cowed by their government this time around. Interesting scenario setting up.

Darth, yes they do, they are best buddies. They belong together.

Lynn, yes I think Putin would love to bring back the Soviet Union again.

BobF, yes that is just what has happened, thank you for the clear way you explained it. Very true!

Tom, yes it is very interesting, I am hoping that this time it will happen like you said..."former Soviet satellite nations will unite". If they can do it and really show Russia they will not give in what a thing that would be.

Raises interesting prospects. How would President Hussein handle another Cuban Crisis ?

"Uh, ah , uh You better pull your troops out now, Mr. Putin, or else...ah ah I'll have a hissy fit."

Early on in the campaign it seemed like Iraq would be the number one issue. Then came the economy with it's housing and oil/energy components. Well folks, hold on to your seats as the old Russia/Soviet Union is back confident in it's boldness based on the demonstrated growing weakness of the United States as a world leader as it waves the white flag of Vietnam-like defeat in Iraq and the overall war on terror around the globe.

The real questions that voters have to ask themselves next November include will Barack Obama be up to the task of protecting the security of the United States in the face of a resurgent expansionist Russia aligned with Iran, Syria, and Hizbollah dominated Lebanon terrorist sponsoring states? Will Obama be up to the task of an al Qaeda and other terrorists takeover of Pakistan with all of it's nuclear weapons and know how? Can Obama stand up to China in it's quest for world military and economic leadership?

Is any terrorist or anti-American world leader afraid of a President Barack Obama or do they know that he and his country are paper tigers? Do they see Obama as all talk and no action?

When you analyze the picture of the couple above, look at the body posturing and demeanor of both men.

It is safe to say that Mr. Vladimir Poo-tin is the "TOP".

This guy has over 2,000 posts and still going strong. I haven't laughed so much in years. His toons are priceless. I don't know where he gets them all, but the guy ace in tracking down these things. I hope you can use them here. I am dead sure that Rusty won't mind....as far as he is concerned the more people spread them around the country and beyond the better. I have used them on Aussie blogs, and they always get a big response from people.

Regards,
Lynette.
