Had the fortune of seeing Mr. Warmth (aka: the Merchant of Venom) twice in a night club performance at the old Latin Casino in Cherry Hill New 'Joisey'! Loved when he hosted the Tonight Show too! "Anyway gang... you hockey pucks!!!" Don always entered the stage with his infamous El Toro matador song playing...

My late father watched these religiously! And we watched them too. (only one tv for many years!) and it was fun. Only Dutch could take such ribbing. If you want to sit in the big chair, you have to take some risks with your life. You HAVE to let people make fun of you, tell jokes at your expense and laugh them off as "I don't care." Obamanation can't do that. I'd love to see him sit through one of those and see how red his face gets.

Lord knows Rickles was the master at jibes, and Ron was a great sport who never took himself as more important then his audience.
I'm always reminded of the vanity of both John Edwards and that Cheshire Cat, Joe Biden. The Dudley Do Right and Snidely Whiplash Congressmen who have their own Sweet Nell Fenwick as house speaker with Dick Dastardly as Senate Majority Leader.
Ronald Reagan flushed more intelligence down the toilet every day than the Obama's will ever possess.

A lot of the stuff Rickles used, would be by todays standards be considered UN pc.

Can you imagine him doing those roasts in today's environment? Every "civil rights" special interest group would be protesting and it it would most likely be banned from TV. He makes fun of Jews, Blacks, Italians, Polish, Irish, and everyone else. What Rickles said in Sammy Davis's roast would have Jackson and Sharpton up in arms.

The Dean Martin roasts were classic comedy with great performers like Jimmy Stewert, Rich Little, Johnny Carson, Sammy Davis Jr. and others. No, they probably could not be done today. Too many comedians today can only do vulgar "humor".

Darth, ( big smile) yes he did. I have always like Don Rickles. He has always had me laughing so hard.

Lynn, that is great.

I agree Lynn, there is no way Obama could handle this kind of thing.

Jack, ...."Ronald Reagan flushed more intelligence down the toilet every day than the Obama's will ever possess. "....that makes a great quote.

Mark, yes I wonder if he has had to change his act in the last few years. I think he still performs once and awhile.

He is sooo good.

BobF, LOL gosh I would LOVE for Rickles to walk right in to Congress and do an show and Pelosi, and all of them to be there. hahahahhahaha

Tom, yes the ones today most use a lot of swear words.

Times have changed and I would like to hang on to a lot of the past things. sigh

"Anyway gang... there's a kraut in the front row? Where's security? Krauts have the stiff pants and boils above their eyebrows...No black pilots? "This is Captain Rufus Jones and we is in the water..." My Jewish wife removes her lingerie but not the jewelry, it's cold... Good Johnny, drop your pants and fire a rocket..."
- Those were the good old NON PC days, eh? Loved Don as Sergeant Crap Game in Kelly's Heroes (1970)!
