Representative Mike Pence,R-IN. ROCKS ~ God Bless Him!

The Democratics have been talking about "doing something" to silence broadcastors like Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Laura Ingraham, and the Internet Christian Conservatives in the form of FCC regulation using the FAIRNESS DOCTRINE. It is a censorship of free speech, and a violation of our First Amendment Rights.

Rep Mike Pence is putting forth this legislation to continue to protect us for another year from use of the Fairness Dontrine, and has agreement of 300 in congress; but only 190 have signed petition.

Pres Bush has agreed to sign. We must motivate those others promised to protect our right as conservatives to speak out for our faith, our conservative views and protection of internet podcasters and blogs.

Representative Mike Pence,R-IN., revealed no Democrat has signed the discharge petition for the Broadcaster's Freedom Act. Speaker Pelosi recently admitted to Human Events her support for the 'Fairness' Doctrine.

Congress is just 23 signatures away from a vote that could finally end the archaic Fairness Doctrine and create a permanent free-market system for talk radio.

Rep. Mike Pence (R-Ind.) continues to urge congress members to sign the Broadcaster Freedom Act discharge petition. The petition will “prevent the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) from repromulgating the fairness doctrine,” originally initiated in the 1930s under Franklin Roosevelt.

During its glory days, the Fairness Doctrine was never applied to ensure conservatives’ air time. In fact, conservative voices were shunned while liberal bias seemed to mysteriously remain under the radar of the FCC. The Fairness Doctrine’s attempt at “fairness” created the most imbalanced media atmosphere possible.

Rep. Pence’s bill could kick the Fairness Doctrine to the curb permanently, much to the disdain of Democrats like Sen. John Kerry, Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin, and Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

“I think the Fairness Doctrine ought to be there and I also think equal time doctrine ought to come back. I mean these are the people who wiped out one of the most profound changes in the balance of the media is when the conservatives got rid of the equal time requirements,” said Sen. Kerry. “And the result is that, you know, they’ve been able to squeeze down and squeeze out opinion of opposing views and I think it’s been an important transition in the imbalance of our public.

First, [Democrats] failed on the radio airwaves with Air America, no one wanted to listen,” says a senior adviser to Pelosi. “Conservative radio is a huge threat and political advantage for Republicans and we have had to find a way to limit it.”

The 195 Congress members who have already signed the discharge petition refuse to let this happen. The bill needs 218 signatures for the legislation to get a vote. To date, not one Democrat has broken with Pelosi to support the bill. Nine Republican representatives have also failed to sign the discharge petition.

“If the Broadcaster Freedom Act is brought to the floor of the House of Representatives, I have every confidence that it will pass because, when freedom gets an up-or-down vote in the People’s House, freedom always wins,” said Rep. Pence.

Pelosi Supports 'Fairness Doctrine'

Human Events

The speaker of the House that a bill by Rep. Mike Pence (R.-Ind.) to outlaw the “Fairness Doctrine” (which a liberal administration could use to silence Rush Limbaugh, other radio talk show hosts and much of the new alternative media) would not see the light of day in Congress during ’08. In ruling out a vote on Pence’s proposed Broadcaster's Freedom Act, Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D.-CA.) also signaled her strong support for revival of the “Fairness Doctrine” -- which would require radio station owners to provide equal time to radio commentary when it is requested.

Experts say that the “Fairness Doctrine,” which was ended under the Reagan Administration, would put a major burden on small radio stations in providing equal time to Rush Limbaugh and other conservative broadcasters, who are a potent political force. Rather than engage in the costly practice of providing that time, the experts conclude, many stations would simply not carry Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, and other talk show hosts who are likely to generate demands for equal time.

Pelosi to Senate: Filibuster FISA

Although Speaker Pelosi would not specifically call for Sen. Barack Obama to lead a filibuster against Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act legislation in the Senate, she did send a strong signal that she was positive about the talk of filibuster against the surveillance measure by Democratic Sens. Christopher Dodd (CT.) and Russ Feingold (Wisc.)

Recalling that there were many issues before the Senate that she felt deserved but did not get a filibuster -- on the war in Iraq and expansion of the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) that the Administration vetoed, for example -- Pelosi voiced her opinion that “a filibuster focuses on a very important issue” and that the importance of FISA “justifies that.”

The Speaker pointed out that “if the Senate has the ability to filibuster, and “I think there is a great appetite in the public for such a debate on [FISA] to take place. And I think it would be healthy and wholesome.”

Wild Thing's comment........

I hope and pray he gets all the signatures he needs for his bill. This is soooo important.

Add Bolton in the mix too. giggle I love how we DO have conservatives out there. It is just sickening that we have none for this election. deep sigh

Funny, the Fairness Doctrine was NEVER really fair anyway. The liberal commentators were just all upset because no one listened to their shows. They weren't enjoyable anyway. I don't think they should have allowed this one at all. It's sad we have to have a petition to keep people like Rush, Michael Reagan, Glenn Beck and the like on the air.

Once again the liberal idiots show their ignornace!!! There has always been a Freedom Doctrine.....it's called "FREEDOM OF SPEECH"!!!!!! Their problem is, they don't have anyone that can speak intelligently or that anybody would want to listen to!!! Lynn is right....it is sad that we have to sign a petition to maintain that freedom!!! But Hey...I'll sign a thousand petitions to ensure I always have that right!!!!

You are right about Pence WT...he is one of Indiana's better Representatives!!! Lugar has gone RINO and Bayh is just a typical liberal!!! Souder is ok some of the time. I think I would like to see Pence and Palin team up!!

The Fairness Doctrine is anything but fair. As John points out, freedom of speech is covered and guaranteed by the First Amendment. The Fairness Doctrine is actually a not so clever restriction of the First Amendment. It is Orwellian.

I hope we get some more true Conservatives like Mike Spence in Congress.

A year???? Somehow that sounds a bit like 5 to 4 on the 2nd Amendment but then we take our little successes where we can get them. At present the best tool the left has to try to shut you up is the accusation that you are a racist. The left will never stop trying to shut out the truth until they are ground into the dust.

Thanks WT, the left sure would like to censure freedom of speech when it applies to their opposition, google is no different. The left controls the mainstream media, paper and wireless now they want to muzzle free speech through legislation and direct censorship. Freedom of speech and thought are hate crimes to them. Stalin would be proud of his offspring, the CPC.

The Fairness Doctrine is Democrats way of forcing us to hear their propaganda. People listen to what they want and they don't want Liberal BS. This sounds so much like something that would have taken place behind the Iron Curtain.

Thank you Mike Pence for being one of the good guys in Congress. We need more like you. Voices like Pence, Palin, and Bolton need to be heard loud and clear between now and November.

The unfair and unconstitutional "Fairness Doctrine" is a pathetic end run at circumventing the First Amendment "freedom of speech" and right to "a redress of grievances."

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

The effort by Speaker Nancy Pelosi and other Democrats like John Kerry and Dick Durbin to replace the First Amendment with Democratic propaganda and censorship of opposing thought reminds me of another oppressive dictatorship and regime as described in the following two items from Nazi Germany. Heil Pelosi!

=================================
Nazi Propaganda

"All propaganda has to be popular and has to adapt its spiritual level to the perception of the least intelligent of those towards whom it intends to direct itself."

-Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf ("My Struggle"), Vol. I

==================================
The Nazi's Volksradio: Defective by Design

The concept of Digital Rights Management, which is essentially creating devices which are "defective by design" or crippled to prevent "unauthorized analog signals" is not new. The Nazi Volksradio, or People's Radio, did exactly the same thing.
This radio isolated frequencies and could only tune to Nazi broadcasts; ensuring a brainwashed populace. Listening to anything else meant the radio was likely modified, and punishable as treason.

Lynn, yes it is very sad and an outrage. No one listens to the dems talk shows on the radio in comparison, they just are not popular. So becasue they can't compete they want to destroy the ones that are doing well, the ones we would listen to.

Posted by: Wild Thing at June 30, 2008 06:18 PM

John, I never saw such a concentrated effort to take our freedom of speech away. This and some other things going on are making it very scary right now.

Posted by: Wild Thing at June 30, 2008 06:20 PM

Tom your right it is restrictive of free speech and very sly at that. Few realize just how drastic this is for freedom of speech.

Posted by: Wild Thing at June 30, 2008 06:23 PM

Sierrahome, that's true and that is just what they are trying to do. Like when Bill Clinton used the word faiytale and Obama said Clinton was being racist. SHEESH what a freak Obama is!!!

Posted by: Wild Thing at June 30, 2008 06:26 PM

Jack thanks for the link. I am going to do a post about Google and Ap and this Fairness Doctrine and how the left does not believe in Freedom of speech. I am so angry about all of this.

Posted by: Wild Thing at June 30, 2008 06:30 PM

BobF it sure does. This should be on every blog, every newspaper and every talk show. I know Rush has talked about it in the past a lot. And several others as well.

Posted by: Wild Thing at June 30, 2008 06:32 PM

Les thank you so much. Thanks for pointing out those things.
