To Those Who Gave Their All

A song sung by Willie Nelson and Ray Charles, and a pictoral slide show dedicated this to the men amd women of the Armed Forces.

He looked down into her brown eyes and said, ?Say a prayer for me?
She threw her arms around him whispered, ?God will keep us free?
They could hear the riders coming he said, "This is my last fight
If they take me back to Texas they won't take me back alive"

There were seven Spanish angels at the alter of the sun
They were praying for the lovers in the valley of the guns
When the battle stopped and the smoke cleared
There was thunder from the throne
And seven Spanish angels took another angel home

She reached down and picked the gun up that lay smokin' in his hand
She said, ?Father please forgive me I can't make it without my man?
And she knew the gun was empty and she knew she couldn't win
But her final prayer was answered when the rifles fired again

There were seven Spanish angels at the alter of the sun
They were praying for the lovers in the valley of the guns
When the battle stopped and the smoke cleared
There was thunder from the throne
And seven Spanish angels took another angel home

There were seven Spanish angels at the alter of the sun
They were praying for the lovers in the valley of the guns
When the battle stopped and the smoke cleared
There was thunder from the throne
And seven Spanish angels took another angel home
Alright John help me now

There were seven Spanish angels at the alter of the sun
They were praying for the lovers in the valley of the guns
When the battle stopped and the smoke cleared
There was thunder from the throne
And seven Spanish angels took another angel home.

I never heard this song before. Wow, I like it. It is very fitting as a tribute to our fallen warriors.

As I listened to the song I could not help but attribute the strength, dedication, and sacrifice of those who lost their lives in service to their country as coming from a nation with a huge melting pot of people with a common identity, the same core values, respect for the Constitution, and love of the country. I worry that we are now a nation of many boiling diversity pots of people with different identities, not the same core values, disrespect for the Constitution, and hatred of the country.

Who will fight for and defend the country in the future and what will they be fighting for?

Thanks John and WT. That song is a favorite. Ditto Darth, well stated.

The last four stanzas of Wilfred Owen's "Apologia Pro Poemate Meo" about WWI came to mind:

I have perceived much beauty,
In the hoarse oaths that kept our courage straight
Heard music in the silentness of duty;
Found Peace where shell storms spouted reddest spate.

Nevertheless, except you share
With them in Hell the sorrowful dark of Hell,
Whose world is but the trembling of a flare,
And Heaven but as the highway for a shell.

You shall not hear their mirth;
You shall not come to think them well content,
By any jest of mine. These men are worth your tears,
You are not worth their merriment.

My hunch is, the last line was for the phony pacifist.

Darth, thank you.

Tom I had never heard it before either. I liked it right away and how they did the video with it was excellent.

Les I understand and agree too. There is something inside of me that says there will still be even if in the future in a minorty, there will always be those that want to fight and serve for our country. But parents today need to keep telling their children why this country has been the land of the free because they are not going to learn such things from their teachers at school.

Jack I am so glad, I never heard it before and am so glad I got to hear it finally.

Rhod, wow that gave me goosebumps, thank you so much. I agree too that the last line had to be for the pacifists.

PS: While dating Fraulein Vader at SPangdahlem AB in West Germany, we went to Bastogne and saw the historic Battle of the Bulge routes... Her would be uncles fought in the German Army & Navy, and after being married I took her to Gettysburg and to the '8th and I' USMC Barracks in DC for the Friday Night Tattoo...Tears flowed from her eyes...She is an AMERICAN now and 100% conservative. Only four US flags flying today in my blue state country development of 50 houses! Imagine that? FREEDOM IS NOT FREE.

Darth, that is wonderful, thank you for sharing. She is a special lady!
That is so sad about the Flags. Maybe more will put them up tomorrow, I hope so.
