New Al Qaeda Cell A Growing Threat To U.S.
Pentagon officials are raising alarm over the threat of a North Africa-based terror cell that they say is could be preparing to launch attacks in Europe and North America.
The new faces of terror are militants inside an emerging al Qaeda cell, which U.S. officials warn presents a clear and growing threat to America.
Based in North Africa, the group calling itself "Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb" specializes in kidnappings and suicide attacks.
A car bombing last September of an Algerian military barracks killed 28 people. But, follow-up bombings of a United Nations building and a diplomatic office signaled that Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb, or AQIM, has bigger plans.
"They have devoted an enormous amount of their energy and their resources to try to build this up as a base to try to carry out attacks, not just in North Africa, but ultimately into West Europe and someday against North America," says Bruce Riedel of the Brookings Institute.
Riedel, a former CIA official, says a propaganda video - just posted on a jihad website - shows a sophisticated attack capability.
But, the most lethal aspect of AQIM - and its real value for Osama bin Laden's terror network - goes beyond firepower.
Says Ambassador Dell Dailey, a U.S. Department of State Counterterrorism official: "Leaders of al Qaeda and its affiliates are extremely interested in recruiting terrorists from and deploying terrorists to Europe, people familiar with our Western cultures that can travel freely."
And that's exactly who's being drawn to the AQIM training camps - people who can easily blend in without raising suspicions in Europe or the U.S.
"Some of those people are second, third generation and they now have French, Belgian or Spanish passports and a French, Belgian or Spanish passport is exactly what al Qaeda is looking for because that's their mechanism to get into the United States," Riedel says.
U.S. officials have long worried about British radicals using U.K. passports to bring terror to America. But, now the North African branch of al Qaeda presents a second pipeline - a doubled threat to the homeland.

Obamanation has one agenda--not to discuss their surrender, but ours. He will turn us over to them and we'll be forever a third world country. I don't understand why we keep electing people who actually believe that all the trouble in the world is America's fault, so we have to suffer for it. What is so wrong with being one of wealthiest countries on the planet. Didn't we work hard to earn our wealth?
They've also forgotten that we have to have allies in the middle east. I do not want to see another war end in disgrace and dishonor and have our kids come home to being spit on, laughed at and treated like dirt. Why can't they let us finish the job right so my grandkids won't have to go try to do it again. It boggles my mind.

There are more of these islamic terrorist cells around the Middle East and North Africa and will probably always be as long as the Saudis promote and fund wahabbism.
We need good intel to find these cells. It is much better for them to be exposed in their native countries where they begin doing their damage. Like Darth points out, in their own part of the world the authorities are not tied down by civil rights or Democrats. Those native authorities will use whatever torture they need to to interrogate captured terrs.

you have it right. I also want my grandchildren to live in a safe and secure world. Until these Islamist scum are exterminated it won't happen. We co-existed with the former Soviet Union and it went down. We can co-exist with China and Russia and if we get back to our basics they will go down. We are being destroyed by the traitor(s) within. There are to many politicians named Judas in our Congress and they are going to destroy us.

Tomo I agree so much. I remember how Bill Clinton messed with all our intel like the CIA, FBI etc. and weakened it too.
Intel is so important and Obama will weaken it more if he wins.
