McCain Pushes 'Cap-And-Trade' Plan to Fight Global Warming

McCain Pushes 'Cap-And-Trade' Plan to Fight Global Warming

Business and Media

GOP presidential nominee John McCain is using the idea of global togetherness to promote “a cap-and-trade system” to battle climate change.

He said “Americans and Europeans need to get serious about substantially reducing greenhouse gas emissions in the coming years or we will hand over a much-diminished world to our grandchildren.”

According to the Arizona senator, whose opinion column appeared in the March 19 Financial Times, the United States needs to work with Europe to create a replacement for the Kyoto treaty.

“We need a successor to Kyoto, a cap-and-trade system that delivers the necessary environmental impact in an economically responsible manner.” He said America needs to be willing to be “persuaded” by our European allies. McCain’s column was headlined “America must be a good role model.”

However, he never addressed the potential costs of his proposal.

McCain talked about Americans and Europeans leading together but only said he wanted to “encourage the participation of the rest of the world, including most importantly, the developing economic powerhouses of China and India.”

But experience has already shown that government intervention in environmental issues can have negative consequences. Ethanol mandates have artificially inflated demand for corn and affected grocery prices. And recent studies have shown ethanol isn’t any better for the environment than burning fossil fuels.

Wild Thing's comment........

Oh shut up McCain. You aren’t helping getting yourself elected with stupid talk like that. At the very least, you could try keep up to date on the “global warming” farce instead of trying to be “popular” and parroting that idiotic nonsense..

Please God send us a miracle, send us someone else to vote for. waaaaa

McCain’s Cap and Trade system would allows for gradual reduction of emissions would control business production and create more bureaucracy to issue permits...require more accountability of govt to meet goals and deadlines. This is 1 step short of nationalizing businesses.

After they go after the big boys, Cap and Trade will be applied to you and I......we will be tracked as they drive down your standard of living.

Comments

I heard Bob Barr may run as a Libertarian. I know he was a good Conservative.

Yes, Bob Barr has announced his bid to run for president via the Libertarian Party. I just posted this yesterday but have not gone through all of the comments yet. I don't know that much about Bob Barr.

I also made another post on the negative effects of believing the malarky spewed by Al Gore and his cronies.

I may have to read up on Bob Barr. I may have to vote with my heart this time. Today I write in Cousin Freddy for president in our primary in Nebraska. And heck no, I ain't voting for McPain or Looney Paul.
But Bob may do more damage than good. Take from McPain and give to Obamanation or Hitlery.
But voting is your civic duty. If you don't vote, you can't say anything about it afterwards.
But we do have some great congressional and senate goings on--yeah, Mike Johanns to replace Chuck Hagel. Lee Terry--he's okay. At least they aren't RINOs.

You have the right to vote for anyone you want to. But a protest vote is a wasted vote that may come back to haunt you. I feel I absolutely have to vote against Obama. That means I have to wade through crap and vile to vote McCain.

I know one of the Conservative arguments is that if Obama is elected, America will wake up in 4 years and say "No more" and then vote against him like when Reagan replaced Carter. What if America does not wake up, there is no Reagan type, only another RINO, and Obama is reelected?

I say grab the straw you can now and hope for better. A President McCain will make us coservatives grind our teeth and pull our hair. A President Obama will completely demoralize us as he quickly destroys Americas' sovereignty, power, wealt and culture. It may not take him 4 years.

We have a big problem with McCain, maybe bigger than any problem we might have with Obama.

I'm probably in the minority here, but McCain seems like a Bonapartean crackpot who wants a Mussolini-style industrial policy for global warming, and an authoritarian manner about everything else.

BobF, Bob Barr is a Lawyer for the ACLU. He went straight to the ACLU when he got out of politics. When he did that I wrote him off no matter what party he is in even if he came back to the Republican party.
I always thought Barr was a conservative, but I sure was wrong when he announced he was joining the legal team of the ACLU. I forget who the other guy was that did it too, I think it was Dick Armey but not sure.

Bob, I used to be a fan of Bob Barr, he used to be considered one of the most conservative members of Congress. And he was one of the leaders of the Impeachment of Bill Clinton. Barr joined the Liberterian party back in 2006.

But since his leaving Congress in 2003, Barr has become a vocal opponent of the Patriot Act and has stated that he regrets voting for it.

Barr has become a prominent member of the ACLU.

He turns my stomach to be honest with you and also there is no way I would ever vote 3rd party.

Lynn that is so great about your congressional non rinos running. I am thrilled for you. I agree that is so important to vote as many non rino's in we can.

Tom, I heard Rush today and he is ticked at McCain too. His whole monogloge was like we are so screwed. He has even said that on the air. He is right we are.

You would laugh if you saw me. One day I wear a Duncan Hunter t-shirt left over from when I signed up at his website. Then another day I wear a Thonmpson t-shirt and another day a Romney t-shirt. LOL Then I have the Operation Chaos t-shirt from Rush Limbaugh. I told Nick I am the..." this is the past election results", they end up with me wearing them instead of voting for them in Novemebr. hahahaha

I have no idea what will happen but there is no way I can vote 3rd party. All I can do till Nov. is just keep posting about what is going on, who said what and who did what and keep praying. OH and buying ammo like you said. This is a nightmare and we are living it.

I agree with you there is no Reagan type, and imo there never will be again. The RNC/GOP does not want one, they won't back them, won't push for them. Reagan will be America's last and best. There is something going on with both parties and their push for total globalization.

They (the RNC and DNC) won't like it when they get what they want and we will all be the voices crying in the wilderness so to speak. But I won't ever give up wanting, praying and doing what I can to get the news out about what is happening. I never want to put my head in the sand and not care anymore. I will give up on people and have, but never will I give up on my country, our Veterans and our troops.

Damn I hate what is happening.

Rhod, no minority, I agree McCain imo is exactly that.

He is NAU, Globalization of the USA, amnesty, could care less about conservatives and many other things. When I see him talking to a NON conservative he is more relaxed in his body language and words and expressions. When he is faced with a true conservative he is tight as a drum, taught in the face and his eyes get a coldness, he appears extremely uncomforable as well he should be. hahha He is in his enemy camp talking or answering questions from a conservative.

Will someone give me an answer. Please what are we supposed to do, who do we vote for? Answers please. He does seem at least as good as the rest and better than some. What a sad state of affairs.

I don't think I can vote for McCain because of the fear of an Obama. But, that's the problem folks. We're presented with a lesser of two evils and told to "suck it up". I'm tired of "sucking it up" and having to vote for someone I know isn't right in order to prevent someone who's more wrong from being elected.

If Bob Barr is lined up with the ACLU, I couldn't support him either. I most likely will do a write in for Duncan Hunter. I gave 26 years of my life to protect and defend the Constitution of the United State and I didn't do it to choose the lesser of two evils. Unfortunately, in this case, McCain isn't that much less of an evil.

Wow! Great discussion thread today. Bob stated the problem best reflecting our mutual frustration when he asked for an answer and what we are supposed to do and who to vote for.

The problem is that we don't have a good answer. WT is on the right track when she says that she is "doing what I can to get the news out about what is happening." We all have to do the same by sharing news and information about Obama on blogs, websites, and emails. Obama needs to be intelligently exposed for all his socialist ways and damage he will do to the country. Voters need to be scared about voting for Obama and knowing that they will be responsible for what damage that he does to them and the country.

As far as McCain and the GOP/RNC goes, we have a problem. I do not plan on voting for McCain unless I am convinced that it is a close election and my vote along with some critical others can keep Barack and Bitchelle Obama out of the White House. Other than that, McCain and the GOP/RNC need to lose, and lose big time, before real conservative reform of the Republican Party can take place.

So, my plan is to vote on November 4th but not vote for President. Hopefully, enough pissed off Clinton supporters and informed non-partisans will not vote for Obama either. Imagine how damaged a President Obama and the Democrats would be if he got less than 40% of the total voters that day. Bill Clinton never got more than 50%. One last thing. Encourage all your conservative friends to vote for other than President as we need as many conservative other office holders as we can. The Dems have registered millions of new voters and can win many elections if conservatives stay home that day.

Bob, McCain is a fanatic. I don't just disagree with him on some policy issues, I think he's unbalanced. I distrust his judgement, his temperment, and I'm shocked by his vindictiveness. I get the impression he'll injure people he dislikes for that reason alone...he's Nixonian...and even NIXON wasn't Nixonian. I can't vote for him; it isn't a question of principle or policy, it's a moral question.

And I think Les has it right. Obama is even too radical for the Donks. They were crazed by Bush, and I think that accounts for the lunacy of the past eight years. It would be different for them under Obama.
