Huckabee Quips About Gun Aimed At Obama

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) - Republican Mike Huckabee responded to an offstage noise during his speech to the National Rifle Association by suggesting it was Barack Obama diving to the floor because someone had aimed a gun at him.

Hearing a loud noise and interrupting his speech, Huckabee said: "That was Barack Obama. He just tripped off a chair. He's getting ready to speak and somebody aimed a gun at him and he—he dove for the floor."

There were only a few murmurs in the crowd after the remark.

The Obama campaign had no comment.

Wild Thing's comment.......

As soon as he said it, and didn’t get the response he expected, I’m sure he started thinking “maybe I shouldn’t make jokes about assassinations and Presidential candidates”.

I am NO fan of Obama but this will probably now be the topic of the news for days on end. augh! I wish Huckabbe YUK would just go back to Arkansas.

This doesn't just hurt him, but it hurts the reputation of responsible gun owners by suggesting that anyone at an NRA convention would do such a thing.

It reminds me of him doing this before when he went on a turkey or quail shoot in IA and took a shot over the heads of the reporters.

Yup, Huckabee just set responsible gun owners and the NRA back decades. Why did the NRA even invite him?

Preachers aren't too good at ad libbing. Huckabee may have just closed his door to a running mate spot with McCain. If so, No Big Loss!

I hope this does close the door to a potential VP offer. What a disaster that would have been.

yankeemom, Hahahha yes I think he did.

BobF, I agree why on earth did they invite him.

Tom I agree, if Huckabee was hoping for VP and I bet he has been it is bye bye.

Les, yes, he has had his 15 minutes of fame. I do sooo wish he would just go away.
