FLEET Week Photo's From Les

From Les, thank you for taking these photos. These were taken from the Jersey side of the Hudson River and the ships were passing close to the New York side.

And this from Les......

"I was standing next to a
proud couple whose son was flying the lead F-18 in the fly over. He
is career Navy with 18 years of service including tours in Bosnia,
Afghanistan, and Iraq as well as being a top gun instructor."

Uggggh, I was just in New York and left on Sunday morning!! My favorite sis just re-enlisted at the Statue of Liberty on Saturday. I can't believe I missed fleetweek!! In 14+ years of seatime, I never saw a fleetweek!
By the way New Yorkers, what's up with the Statue anyway, I thought she would be taller.

Awesome photos Les, thank you. Thank you Chrissie. I was at Schenectady for a two week school 20 years ago at General Electric, the class I was with took off for the big city, I took off for the Catskills, so I never made it to the City. Pretty State.
I haven't heard if there has been such an event near here at Bremerton, the Air Force Thunderbirds are going to exhibit their stuff here at McCord AFB in July, I am looking forward to their show.

There was a record low ship turnout for this years Fleet Week. Some attribute it to an unwritten ban on nuclear-powered Navy ships in New York Harbor which resulted from local New York City politics. The New York Sun has an excellent article with the background and efforts to finally lift the ban.

A Ban on Nuclear Warships Dampens Spirit of Fleet Week

I took the pictures from Liberty State Park in Jersey City where I live. I can't speak for others but it is natural for me to feel proud of my country watching the Fleet as well as being so close to and seeing the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. How can anyone feel otherwise?

Texas Fred, yes me too. I love it when they do this or anything to show our military and give we citizens a chance to say thank you.

PS: Lords of Flatbush Nick? Navycopjoe: All aircraft are small vs. our US Luftwaffe C-5 Galaxy! Told the T-Birds will be in Myrtle Beach next week for Sun Fun Airshow 2008, and the BLUES will be at Cherry Point? Sounds of Freedom...
