RNC and John McCain Condemn N.C. Anti-Obama TV Ad

This ad entitled "Extreme" released by the North Carolina Republican Party opposes Bev Perdue and Richard Moore for Governor.

ABC news

The North Carolina Republican Party is preparing to unveil a television ad which functions on two levels: paint Obama as "extreme" for attending Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago where Rev. Wright made incendiary comments and knock Democrats Bev Perdue and Richard Moore for endorsing someone as "extreme" to North Carolina as Obama.

There' s no real money behind the ad right now. NC Republican Party spokesman Brent Woodcox told ABC News the party will make a final decision about the ad buy on Monday.

Republican presidential nominee Sen. John McCain, of Arizona, moved quickly on Wednesday to reject the ad.

"I have been committed to running a respectful campaign based upon an honest debate about the great issues confronting America today. I expect all state parties to do so as well. The television advertisement you are planning to air degrades our civics and distracts us from the very real differences we have with the Democrats," said McCain in a letter to the North Carolina Republican Party Chair Linda Davis.

McCain demanded that Davis discontinue plans to run the ad:

"It is imperative that you withdraw this offensive advertisement."

Wild Thing's comment........

The ad is certainly truthful: Obama is extreme. And McCain once again shows the same timidity he showed in 2004 with his failure to not criticize his buddy Kerry, and how he (McCain) opposed the ads by the Swifties who told the truth about Kerry. McCain hit another low when he characterize the SWIFT Boat vets commercial about John Kerry as "dishonest and dishonorable".

This IS legitimate information in a campaign for President of the United States. He should not deligitimize the information as being off limites in the campaign. And it is relevant information.

This is why we need Hildabeast in there to the bitter end. McCain wont fight Osama Obama but she will!

UPDATE I just saw while posting this:

NC GOP defies RNC and McCain, will air ad

Politico

The North Carolina GOP will still run an ad featuring Barack Obama's pastor despite the pleas of the RNC and John McCain himself, according to a spokesman for the state party.

"Yes, the ad will air," said Brent Woodcox, communications director for the North Carolina GOP.

RNC chairman Mike Duncan has been in contact with the state party asking them to not run it and McCain sent an unequivocal email to the North Carolina GOP chairwoman urging the same.

Also, Woodcox sent over a defense of the spot, which I've updated in the original post with the ad down below.

UPDATE: ad gets pulled

anyone getting dizzy?

North Carolina Republicans pull anti-Obama ad

North Carolina's Republican Party on Thursday withdrew an advertisement critical of Democrat Barack Obama's links to a controversial preacher, Republican John McCain's campaign said.

McCain senior adviser Charlie Black said he had been informed by the Republican National Committee's representative in North Carolina, that the state party had agreed to withdraw the ad.

McCain, the Republicans' presumptive presidential nominee, had appealed to the state party to withdraw the ad, saying he wanted to run a respectful campaign.

This is so confusing and it is all because of McCain. grrrrrr

There is also this they both seem to be around the same time period so who knows what will happen.:

In a letter his campaign released to Linda Daves, chairwoman of North Carolina’s Republican Party, Mr. McCain said the advertisement “degrades our civics and distracts us from the very real differences we have with the Democrats.”

Mike Duncan, the chairman of the Republican National Committee who was traveling with Mr. McCain on Wednesday, said he had a left a message with Ms. Daves also asking that the advertisement be pulled.

But Brent Woodcox, communications director for the state party, said it still planned to broadcast the commercial, although for how long and how extensively throughout the state had not yet been decided.

....Thank you Mark for the link.

Comments

I am sick and tired of the GOPhers ... 'taking the high road' in the dirt track road of political racing! Trent Lot was humiliated over one birthday party remark... Rush Limbaugh was told to resign from ESPN for one truthful remark about a black NFL quarterback in McNabb... Jimmy the Greek Snyder the same by CBS after comments made while he was DRUNK... Don Imus the same last year. And militant Pastor Jeremiah Wright and Obama get a FREE PASS?

I won't send a penny to the Republican National Committee but maybe I'll send some money to the North Carolina Republican Party. At least they have the kahonas to expose Obama for what he is.

No one seems to fit the mold of the founding fathers anymore. No one has any guts.
"We're in a war, dammit, we're going to offend someone!"
"We're surrounded? Great, now we can kill 'em in all directions!"
If you want to win, you sometimes have to play dirty. It's the name of the game.
Who cares? McPain, it's the truth. I'm sorry Obamanations feelings get hurt. Maybe he should see a shrink.

If the Republican party can't see the benefit of this then they need an eye transplant too, along with " A Pair Transplant". They could win this thing with no problem but playing their game will do nothing but get us a Terrorists for President.

Just one more example of John McCain and the RNC repeating their losing ways and snatching defeat from the hands of victory. John McCain is a RINO Pied Piper leading the Republicans to a disaster next November.

I can see the headline now, "John McCain and the RNC Played Nice and LOST".

This is a truthful and mild ad. I know what McCain is doing. He has so much controversy in his political career, he knows he is highly vulnerablew to dirty tricks in the general election, so he wants to keep everything dirty underground. Well, the Dems won't play that game. The Repubs lost Congress because they were both dishonest and unaggressive. McCain is like those losing Congressional Repubs.

Darth's list is instructive. You don't win by beng meek and mild.

Also, screw the RNC. It's missteps have cost us Congress and it has proven to be anti Conservative. The RNC needs to die and be replaced by a Conservative Party.

McCain and the RINOs really *don't* want to win this. I can't help but think that McCain is a patsy, foisted on the GOP by manipulation of early open primaries and a winner-take-all primary system.

The system of proportional delegates that the Commiecrats have, ironically, is much more fair. If the GOP had such a primary system, Mitt Romney (or ideally, someone far more palatable) would still be in this.

Would the GOP then be potentially vulnerable to an "Operation Chaos" by the Left? Perhaps. But AT LEAST some real issues would get hashed out. The Bushyrovie strategy of pretending certain issues (like immigration) are not a problem and sweeping them under the rug simply does not work.

Sadly, after McCain's willingness to go along with the phony "global warming" hoax, and after McCain's mea culpa for voting against the MLK holiday 25 years ago (which was the right thing to do at the time, because the government unions were demanding another holiday with pay with no concessions on their part), I am not surprised. As if the eco-fiends and the black militants are EVER going to vote Republican anyway?

Someone needs to tell the GOP "Leadership" the simple fact: You can't pander to certain groups who are only going to hate you no matter what you do!

McCain the RINO is championing the very cause of Obama, the candidate who cancelled debates in North Carolina after losing badly in his last debate. He wants to ride to victory without answering vital questions about his past, his patriotism and his motives. Once again McCain is trying to control free speech which may expose the big lies behind not only Obama but himself. Which of the three will be the worst tyrant? We know the Democrats and McCain abhor the first amendment for the common citizen, reserving it only for themselves and their media reps. We know the RNC has foisted a RINO upon us, they kept putting the Rockefeller Republicans into offices until they are a majority, all three candidates and the RNC will forfeit US sovereignty for the phony security umbrella the UN offers. About that pair transplant, there isn't a pair amongst them.

Thanks Mark and WT

John McCain and the RNC pressuring the North Carolina GOP to pull the ad is just one more reason not to vote Republican next November. They deserve the low road whipping that they will get from the hate filled Democratic Party and it's presidential nominee.

John McCain = RINO = Loser = RNC = Howard Dean & DNC Lackey

Darth, your so right. Great comment!! I am sick of it too. It is so double standard and most of the things 'THEY' get upset with are really nothing at all.

I want the GOP/RNC to come on strong and say the we aren't going to hide things from the American people. Wright was not forced to be the jerk he is, he said what he did and now he has to live with it. It is NOT wrong for someone to point it out, sheesh.

Posted by: Wild Thing at April 24, 2008 06:17 PM

BobF, yes they did and now this afternoon, just a little while ago they caved in. sigh. I had such hopes for them to stay strong.

Posted by: Wild Thing at April 24, 2008 06:19 PM

Lynn..."No one seems to fit the mold of the founding fathers anymore. No one has any guts."......Lynn, I feel the same way.

I am so disappointed.

Posted by: Wild Thing at April 24, 2008 06:21 PM

Mark, bullseye!

That is very much what could happen.

Here the RNC has Rev. Wright dropped in their lap and they won't even put out what he has said. It is not like we are asking them to trash anyone, just tell the truth about the dems running. sheesh darn and double darn.

Posted by: Wild Thing at April 24, 2008 06:25 PM

Les, yes one could even make a bumper sticker of that!! Because that is just what they are doing.

I really believe with all my heart that the only people that have the strength to do what has to be done, to do the right thing are conservatives. Forget about party that is baloney anymore I am so fed up with these weak kneed jerks wanting my precious vote then they turn around and give our country the middle finger.

Posted by: Wild Thing at April 24, 2008 06:37 PM

Tom, exactly can you imagine our soldiers fighting this war the way the GOP/RNC wants to fight the enemy within. No wonder we have not been able to win when they push their liberal agenda on all of us.

Posted by: Wild Thing at April 24, 2008 06:45 PM

Nick Byram...."Someone needs to tell the GOP "Leadership" the simple fact: You can't pander to certain groups who are only going to hate you no matter what you do!"......

That is the bottom line of all of this and so true too.

Posted by: Wild Thing at April 24, 2008 06:49 PM

Jack..."Once again McCain is trying to control free speech "...he sure does this an awful lot too. GRRRRRRRRR

Posted by: Wild Thing at April 24, 2008 06:50 PM

Les, I have gotten mad at my party, told them off, cut off donating ( it was ne ver much anyway but still it was a donation), had them take me off their calling list, cried myself to sleep about how disappointed I am in what has been happening to our country and our weak leadership.

Now I just stay in one mode when it comes to the GOP/RNC and that is ticked. I am fed up with their antics and weakness. They are selling us all out to the dem party and it makes me ill.
