Muslim Opening Prayer At Iowa Statehouse

Muslim opening prayer at Iowa Statehouse raises concerns”

The Iowa Legislature started just over a week ago and some people were upset before the first issue was every addressed. When the session began, a Muslim Imam began the prayer in the Iowa Legislature. This is where the controversy begins.

The prayer asked of "Victory over those who disbelieve," and "Protection from the great Satan" among other things. Pastor Steve Smith of the Evangelical Free Church in Albert City is among those concerned about the Muslim prayer. Rev. Smith admits that he doesn't know about all the levels of Muslim but knows that the Jihadists believe those in the U.S. are the great Satan.
Rev. Smith also wants to point out the mention of "victory over those who disbelieve." He feels "this is a request in the Iowa Legislature for God to grant the Muslims victory over every non-muslim. Not a request for salvation."

Smith takes it as a gesture not of prayer but more as a political statement, especially with the wars that have been going on in the Middle East.

"I'm not concerned about a Muslim Imam opening the Legislature in prayer but it concerns me with the statements that were made. He interpreted this prayer from his understanding of Islam."

Here is the text of the opening prayer, as transcribed by Radio Iowa:
Imam Muhammad Khan of the Islamic Center of Des Moines spoke first in Arabic.

"I seek refuge in God against the accursed Satan in the name of God, most gracious, most merciful," Khan said in English. Khan made no specific mention of the war in Iraq or foreign affairs, but he called God the "master of the day of judgment" and asked for "victory over those who disbelieve." "As we begin this new year...in a world with trials and tribulations, we ask you to open the hearts of our legislators and policy makers to make the right decisions for the people of Iowa," Khan said. "...We ask that you guide our legislators and give them the wisdom and knowledge to tackle the difficult problems that face us today in order to eliminate the senseless crimes on humanity. Help them, Lord, to solve the complicated problems in the State of Iowa so that we can be a model to the world."

Khan's prayer lasted about four minutes.

Representative Gary Worthan of Storm Lake said that he agrees with the concern being shown over the Muslim prayer.

He said that he has registered his concerns with the proper authorities.

As the father of two sons who have fought terrorism in the military, Worthan said the phrases mentioned earlier also jumped out at him and he said he shares concern for the same reasons as the constituents he is hearing from.

Wild Thing's comment........

I realize the England is deep into this giving in to Islam. But we are not far behind. Prayers for our country and it's future. IMO there is nothing good that can come from having this Moslem pray at the Iowa Statehouse. Nothing! This catering to followers of Islam is so dangerous.

"One nation...under Allah, divided, without liberty and justice by the sword for all?" Our 250 patriot forfathers are rolling over in their colonial graves!

Maybe if we make nice to the Muslims they'll be nice to us and not blow us up. I wonder if they all got on their knees and kissed his hand?

Gee, maybe next session they'll have a Satan worshiper open with an animal sacrifice.

What in the heck is going on?
I'm all for freedom of religion, but this just
goes too far. Everyone knows the Muslims believe we are the Great Satan, so why allow them to say a derogatory prayer like they did?
If we are so very bad, what does that make them?
We don't put political prisoners through wood chippers or bury them alive. We don't go and kill their families in front of them or chop off a hand for stealing a loaf of bread because they have no food. So who's the great satan? I believe it is Islam. They have misinterpreted their Koran (or the great crayon, as we call it) so badly that they don't know they've done that.
I'll have to ask my sister, who lives in Des Moines, what in the heck is going on out there.

It would not surprise me if we don't have any more 9-11 type attacks. An Iman praying in a state legislative chambers does more to conquer America than a horrendous attack that arouses the ire and awareness of an armed populace.

The Arabs can control us by running up the price of oil and then using those massive profits to buy US stocks on the reccesive downturn, thus owning large parts of American business without setting off one bomb.

Meanwhile, our President holds hands and dances with Saudi princes, our Senate negotiates business deals with Arabs, our State Dept transfers US funds to terrorist groups in Gaza and we keep letting more moslems immigrate to America.

I agree with TomR on how this insidious radical Islamic invasion of the core of our society is doing more to conquer America than a horrendous physical attack. Add to that, the PC prostrating of our public officials and media to Arabs and Muslims committed to enslave us infidels is, pure and simple, committing national suicide.

We have become a nation who doesn't know history (thank you teacher's unions) and therefore can't learn from it and will be stupidly doomed to repeat it.

And the Iowa Legislature didn't all get up as one and leave the room in disgust - why?
Shameful, to say the least. Let's just let those who wish the unbelievers death (that would be most of us in this country)know that we'll be little sitting ducks - too stupid to know when we've been insulted to say the least.

Jefferson should be here to see this...He'd be shaking his head in disdain and letting us know what it cost to give us the liberty that we are just throwing away bit by bit.

Darth, they must be, maybe even spinning from all the crazy stuff going on.

Posted by: Wild Thing at January 25, 2008 11:35 PM

Bob, isn't it something, it is like they just can't say no. Or maybe worse yet they seek it out to have Moslems get more active in our governemnt in any way they can think of.

Lynn, they are way over reaching to try and cater to Islam's followers. It will surely backfire.

Posted by: Wild Thing at January 25, 2008 11:40 PM

Tom exactly we are almost handing them the key to our cities.

Les, I agree so many are not teaching the true history of our country. Sometimes we will watch just the opening of the Jay Leno show and he sometimes will go out on the street with a camera. Then he asks people walking by easy questions like who is the VP or who is on Mt Rushmore. Most of the time no one knows the answers to any of the questions. Very scary.

Yankeemom, Amen to what you said. Jefferson would think he was in a different country.
