Bill Would Ban Swearing In Bars

ST. CHARLES, Mo.

What the ...? A St. Louis-area town is considering a bill that would ban swearing in bars, along with table-dancing, drinking contests and profane music.

City officials contend the bill is needed to keep rowdy crowds under control because the historic downtown area gets a little too lively on some nights.

City Councilman Richard Veit said he was prompted to propose the bill after complaints about bad bar behavior. He says it will give police some rules to enforce when things get too rowdy.

But some bar owners worry the bill is too vague and restrictive, saying it may be a violation of their civil rights.

Marc Rousseau, who owns bar R.T. Weilers, said he thinks the bill needs revision.

"We're dealing with adults here once again and I don't think it's the city's job or the government's job to determine what we can and cannot play in our restaurant," Rousseau said.

The proposal would ban indecent, profane or obscene language, songs, entertainment and literature at bars.

A meeting to discuss the proposal is set for Jan. 14.

Wild Thing's comment........

Why do so many people hate freedom? And also personal reponsibility come to think of it.

These people don’t understand freedom. Most young people in America think freedom means freedom from offense, freedom from physical harm, freedom to litigate. If you present to these geniuses something that is “good for people”, they’ll sign up. Lower the BAC for being drunk? Well, that’s good for you, sure. Ban transfats? Again, good for you, sure.

Part of freedom is the freedom to make choices others would deem as “bad”. But you’re also free to live with the result.

So, the good people of this town see swearing as bad for you, and will attempt to ban it. We are on the slippery slope and sliding fast.

Maybe this would help, heh heh

I'm sorry, but when you're three sheets to the wind in a bar, you're gonna be swearing. In America, we are at least guaranteed the PURSUIT of happiness and if table dancing makes you happy or getting drunk makes you happy, well, that's your business.
If we elect Hitlery, Obamanation or Silky Pony, our freedoms are over. Hitlery is a Marxist, Obamanation is a Muslim and Silky Pony is the village idiot.
I just want to scream, WAKE UP PEOPLE!!!!!
and shake the living daylights out of them.

I had a discussion with my step-son concerning ordinances that ban smoking in restaurants and bars. He was all for it but I was against it. Now, I don't smoke and dislike the smell of cirarette smoke. I enjoy going into a restaurant and not being asked "smoking or non-smoking" as the whole place is non-smoking. I enjoy eating where the air smells clean instead of the smell of smoke wafting over from the "smoking" side of the building. I told him the reason I'm against these ordinances is because it's Government telling a private business owner what they can and can't do on private property. I restaurant is still a private business on private property owned by the private citizen business owner. Smoking is still legal and as such, he should be able to allow it on is premises. He thought a second on it and then agreed with my argument because that's what living in a free society is all about. I have the freedom to either spend my money in a smoking establishment or non-smoking establishment.

In 2003 NY State banned smoking in all restaurants and bars. Restaurant owners predicted doom and gloom as they will loose their clientele. Well, the opposite happened as people who never went out to dinner because of cigarette smoke started going out to eat. Restaurants didn't have the smell of stale smoke, only the smell of good food cooking in the kitchens. Even the smokers enjoyed eating without having to smell someone else's smoke.

Yes they sure did ban smoking in all restaurants and bars in New York State, but the product is still LEGAL. They still charge tax on it and willingly take the money from a perfectly legal product.

As far as I am concerned The Smoking Nazi's have snuck this one in under the auspices of Public Health. Which is an intrusion of the Publics right to the persuit of happiness.

Since this is the government banning cigarette smoking in public places all for the 'good'of the People, why don't they just shut down the tobacco companies because the product is so dangerous.

The Agenda driven Nazis are now after 'trans-fat', McDonalds and Burger king are changing the way the prepare their food, French Fries now taste like heated strips of Styro-foam and absolutely no taste at all.

There should be Smoking Restaurant and Non-smoking restaurants, for those of you who just can't stand cigarette smoke.

But these self same hypocrites who want to ban smoking, promote teenagers having babies, and NOW in Denver they want these teenage Mothers to get a Maternity leave, and if they don't want the baby they will kill it for them.

These same people are so concerned about Michael Vick killing a few dogs, yet not one voice is ever raised over the almost 1 million,(1,000,000) babies being slaughtered like so many dogs.

This is Bullshit, when I was a kid, cigarettes were 20 cents a pack, gas was 17 cents a gallon and also when I was a kid it was a free country.

This is Liberalism/Marxism/Orwellism at it's best. If someone farts in church, just ban the congregation from eating(or ban church going). Punish the entire population instead of the offenders.

I am an ex-smoker who hates the odor of tobacco. However, it is smokers right to smoke. I would rather go to a smoke free restaurant because the owner made it smoke free, not because Big Bro government so decreed.

Bye Bye Freedom, I knew you well!

Our loss of freedom is immeasurable, it encroaches every day and we lose it in small increments, soon free speech will be outlawed for the common man. LOL on the video, I had to learn to talk all over again when I returned from Vietnam, my entire vocabulary consisted of about three vowels and the universal adjective.

While I still have my Freedom of Speech, I'll say this to St.Louis and to all of the other PC jerkwads including the ACLU

"FUCK YOU"

And people want to know why this country is so screwed up.

Lynn, I agree! Good run down on the various traitors too.

Bob your right, it all comes down to our freedoms and be able to have choices in being responsible. The left like my in-laws want to have the government make all the decisions for them and they don't even get it how that is just what would happen with government control over things.

Your a good Father to explain things to your son Bob.
