'Twas the week before Caucus

'Twas the week before Caucus

from The Federalists

'Twas the week before Caucus, and all through the state,
Not a creature was stirring, the blizzard won't wait.
But conservatives were troubled by scary dreams,
That some of the players weren't who they seemed.

The candidate's finish seemed to be set,
But the events of '03 some seemed to forget.
With Kerry in the polls at just four percent,
But out of Iowa with a victory he went.

"Fred's not got a chance," the pundits did chatter,
"If you think that he does, you're mad as a hatter."
These are the "experts" who got it all wrong,
When four years ago they sang their proud song.

They were so sure it would be Howard Dean,
Who'd take Iowa by storm,'cause he led by thirteen.
But Iowa voters made 'em eat their words,
When poor Mr. Dean finished no better than third.

This time it's the Huckster who's up in the lead,
And would have you think that it's all a done deed.
But each time that the governor opens his mouth,
He says things that make his voters go south.

Mitt Romney is struck with a similar affliction,
He's told tall tales that have proved to be fiction.
Poor Rudy has fallen almost out of sight,
For his political postions are not on the right.

On LA Times! On Politico's Roger Simon!
On with the hit pieces! On with the lyin'!
It'll do you no good! It won't stop big Fred!
His '94 victory turned their faces all red!

With many undecided and even more who might switch,
Predicting Iowa is really a b*tch.
Fred Thompson knows as he heads down the stretch,
There's plenty of votes that he can still fetch.

So he's off on a bus tour of the good Haweye State,
After winning hands down the most recent debate.
Mitt got Tancredo, but Fred got Tanc's top guy,
Who was immediately campaigning for Fred on the fly.

And I heard Fred exclaim, as he stumped with Steve King,
"This thing ain't over 'til the fat lady sings."

Wild Thing's comment........

I thought this was clever in how it is written.

Hi, Chrissie and all,

I've been reading the blog...just have not had time this week to respond.

You know, I've been thinking. Ever since this Iowa caucus started, I can't help but feel sorry for all the good people of Iowa.

I was born in Eldon, Iowa and these poor folks DON'T DESERVE to have all this bizarre activity... especially putting up with Hitlery's and Obsamabama's bull jive.

It's kind of like two violent enemies fighting battles in the nutral territory of good, honest, patriotic folk, who just want to be left allow.

All my uncles and aunts want them OUT.

Praise be to G_d when all this is over for the people of Iowa.

I like Fred too, but he has got to get a 'tad' more animated, sorta like, give the folks the idea that he is still alive.

Love the poem. I see where the good Pastor's troupe has cast the first stone, I doubt Mr. Limbaugh will speak kindly about the Huckster to his 20 plus million followers over this, some of whom are true conservatives.
Go forth and expose thyself Mike, expose that inner Arkansas politician, that the Clintons have tried so hard to hide. Wake up Fred, it's a lot like horse racing where you either win, place or show. are you even going to show? I don't want to have to write either your name or Hunter's in on the ballot in protest, but I will.

I really think sometimes that a national lottery to pick the President might be the best way to go. Avoids all this phony posturing and pandering, and final disappointing. Every American taxpayer who is not a felon would be elgible to have their name drawn.

The Democrats are really scary. The Republicans aren't much better acting like Democrats circling their wagons and firing inside the circle at each other instead of the enemy (real Democrats) surrounding them.

I agree with the comments on my candidate, Fred Thompson, who better wake up and realize that he needs the people who want to see fire in the belly to win the nomination and then the White House.

TomR - What do you have against felons? They have been loyal Democrats and voters and want to be treated equally just as illegal aliens who also vote and have "rights". Be careful of a national lottery, Vincente Fox may win the popular vote.

Hi Steve, Hawkeye State, good to see you. I know what you mean, all this political stuff dirties a person and a State too especially this time.

Your right there are good people in Iowa that must truly hate all of this.

Jack, I am dreading the vote, I really am. I agree with what you said.

Tom, this is like some kind of long drawn out horrible surgery where a person is wide awake for all the pain and stress or something.

Who has bigger hips: Hitlery or the Giza Pyramids?
Who has bigger ears: Obama, Elephants, Yoda, Mr. Spock or the Grinch?
