Soldier Re-Enlists Hours After IED Injury

Soldier re-enlists hours after IED injury

FORWARD OPERATING BASE WARHORSE, Iraq

A U.S. Soldier re-enlisted in the Army just hours after being seriously wounded in an improvised explosive attack near Zaganiyah, Iraq, Nov. 13.

Spc. Christopher Hoyt, an infantryman with 2nd Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment, 4th Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division from Fort Lewis, Wash., suffered severe lacerations to his legs and torso when an IED exploded near him while conducting a dismounted patrol. Two of his fellow Soldiers were killed in the attack.

Hoyt was rushed to the emergency room at Logistics Support Area Anaconda, where he decided to re-enlist for four more years in the Army.

“He said he wasn’t finished,” said Hoyt’s battalion commander Lt. Col. Mark Landes, who re-enlisted the Soldier. “He said, ‘I still have a job to do.’ I’ve never seen the like.”

Command Sgt. Maj. John Troxell, the brigade’s top noncommissioned officer, was also on hand for Hoyt’s reenlistment.

“It takes a person of very strong character to go through an incident where another Soldier five feet away was killed and he was severally wounded and still say ‘I believe in what we are doing and I want to stay on the team. I want to support the United States Army and my country.’
“Spc. Hoyt is the epitome of what a Soldier should be,” Troxell continued. “He is a model for what all men and women should be, and that is very patriotic and very selfless.”

Hoyt, whose hometown is Clemente, Calif., is currently recovering in an Army hospital in Germany.

Wild Thing's comment........

What totally awesome Americans we have in our military. Men like Spc. Hoyt deserve our respect and appreciation. Those that do not get it, do not want to support our troops, will never know the bursting pride and humble feeling it is to be able to say thank you sir, Spc. Hoyt for serving our coutnry.

Wonderful trooper there in Spc. Hoyt, quite a contrast to a certain senator's behavior. It takes an awful lot to do what he did so soon after being injured and seeing his fellow soldiers die. My deepest respect to Spc. Hoyt and to his parents who reared him right. "Hoooahh"

What a dedicated soldier. I have been lucky enough to know some troopers like that. Spec.Hoyt must be serving with other awesome troopers. They inspire each other. This is something seldom experienced in the civilian world.

Yes these are dedicated soldiers, or there may be some other motiv for his re-enlistment.

It turns out that when a soldier signs up for a tour in Iraq there is a bonus of about 10,000 dollars, of course the Government takes 25 % in taxes first. I heard on Laura Ingraham that these soldiers who have been wounded in defence of their country are now REQUIRED TO PAY BACK TO THE GOVERNMENT A PRO RATED PORTION OF THEIR BONUS.

It wasn't the soldiers fault he got wounded doing his duty, so now he is punished for being in harms way. And why isn't this bonus TAX-FREE. What do these heartless bastards do if the soldier is killed charge his family. This is a Goddamn outrage.

This whole thing reeks of corruption at high levels and the boots on the ground are caught in the middle and don't even realize it until they get hospitalized.

So Laura suggested that Bush get this changed for Thanksgiving, ... Ha nice thought, he won't even pardon the Border agents already in jail via his justice department, for doing their job. Now the same drug dealer who testified against Ramos and Compien is now arrested again on smuggleing drugs.

There is something very wrong with our government. We have reached a point of critical mass that if it is not changed we will not know our own country in a few years and sooner if Hillary is elected.

This whole scenario is BS. I don't know the percentages but a lot of these soldiers are on welfare just to make ends meet, the ones who have families and they take these bonuses to help their families, and they are taxed. This is a load of crap. These bastards need to tax their bonus. Where the hell is the VA, the President in this. It is generated at the Pentagon, every armchair general who has instituted this policy should be immediately fired.

They are taxed for volunterring to go to Iraq and the gutless state department won't go .

Jack, yes I was thinking that too about how soon afterward.

Tom that is so true, it is seldom, very seldom this is seen in the civilian world.

Patrick thank you.

Mark I agree with you so much. Every word you wrote is so true and I have been ticked about this for a long time. I want to hear ONE of those running for President one day in my life say he wants to make this right and fix this. So far I have yet to hear anyone say they want to do what needs to be done about all of this.
