The US is concerned that Hamas and Hizbullah agents may penetrate the porous US-Mexican border in order to carry out terrorist attacks, according to Robert Grenier, the former head of the US Central Intelligence Agency's counterterrorism center.
His comments were featured in a report published by the Mexican press on Thursday.
Speaking at an event in Mexico, Grenier—who now runs his own international security firm called Kroll—said that reports indicate the United States is fearful that Iran, Hamas, and/or Hizbullah may seek to set up operations in Mexico in order to carry out terrorist attacks in the US.
According to the US counterterrorism expert, American officials are concerned that terrorists will tap into illegal immigrant and/or drug trafficking networks in order to use them to bring people and equipment into the US.
The former CIA official added that the American government is also fearful that Hamas and Hizbullah sleeper cells are already operational in Mexico; and, that Hizbullah is funneling money from Mexico into to Lebanon to fund the organization's operations there.
Until now, the US has not given Hizbullah operations in Mexico much thought. However, in wake of the recent escalation of rhetoric between the US and Iran regarding the latter's nuclear program, American officials have become concerned that Iran will use Hizbullah to carry out terror attacks on US targets around the world, Grenier explained.
According to this scenario, Iran could also use Hizbullah networks to hit the US on its own soil.
The terrorism expert noted that it was hard to say for certain that sleeper cells already exist in Mexico. However, according to Grenier, The Lebanese Shia community in Mexico supports Iran and Hizbullah and there is speculation that members of the community could be recruited to carry out acts of terrorism.

I sure hope President Bush is listening. We have been hearing about this for awhile now, from various people in the know. Unfortunately the open border folks just do not care. The border will not be closed until we have a major terror attack in which the attackers come illegally from Mexico.

it's so too bad that this country has to be run by politicians, most who don't want to have a clue, esp. if it means money out of their pockets or losing votes.
I am so frustrated with Pres. Bush about all of this.
I wonder how quick the turn around in attitude would be with the border appeasers if LA or San Francisco got hit.

to please everyone and we're so shocked
when it doesn't work!
The wall needs to be electrified and our border patrol needs to shoot anyone trying to pass through illegally, if they make it through the electrified fence.
We should have several places along the border for them to pass through (like Ellis Islands) and be detained until they can properly be identified and medically cleared and have become US Citizens.
At Ellis Island, many immigrant men and boys were put right into the service to serve in the Civil War for their "country." and if they survived, they were granted citizenship. Maybe it's time to institute an old custom.

Common sense says that the Mexican border is the best place to bring groups and illegal items into America. And common sense says that the corruption in Mexico makes it ripe to support terrorist groups. Sady, common sense takes a back seat to globalist endeavers.
I have to guess that the reason we have not had another attack is because America is so easy to infiltrate and the islamic terrorists do not want to interupt a good thing while they are bringing in (tens of?)thousands of their own annually. They are successfully building a power base here. They are like cancer cells multiplying and we won't begin therapy.

We're too busy treating terrorists as minor criminals, don't want to hurt their little 'feelers' now do we? Mexico has always been a haven for history's anarchists and misfits.
Alan Woods , Ernesto Guevara de la Serna (Che), Adolfo Zamora, Jose Ferrel, Diego Rivera, Ramon Mercador, Leon Trotsky, are but a few past and present that use terrorism as a tool to take over a country, what's to stop them from aiding the muzzy threat to gain their objective. We know where Vincente Fox stands and how willing Jorge Carter Bush and the Congress are.
