NEW YORK

Walter Cronkite, the TV news icon often described as "the most trusted man in America," is returning to television, signing on as a regular contributor to the startup cable network Retirement Living TV.

Beginning November 20, the former CBS Evening News anchor will contribute weekly editorial commentaries during the channel's two-hour noontime program, Daily Cafe. Each of Cronkite's videotaped messages will run between seven and 10 minutes in length.

The "Cronkite's Commentaries" segments will provide the veteran newsman a platform from which to offer his take on a host of issues, ranging from politics to the environment.

Retirement Living made the announcement Thursday morning, capping months of negotiations with the 91-year-old Cronkite. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

While Cronkite signed off from CBS News for the last time on March 6, 1981, he has stayed true to his parting words, "old anchormen, you see, don't fade away; they just keep coming back for more." Over the years, he has made occasional appearances on TV, including Discovery Channel documentaries and specials.

Retirement Living reaches some 29 million U.S. households, primarily through DirecTV. Its broadcast day runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. EST

Wild Thing's comment........

This little s.o.b. went to Hue City fairly late in the battle and saw what he wanted to see, but refused an invitation to see the massacred the communists had killed and tossed in a mass grave.

He will more then likely call the Iraq surge a losing battle (like he did the Tet Offensive) and call for the aging hippies to ride to Washington. Which goes to prove that old communists never die,,they just fade away. He should have guests like Alan Greenspan, Jimmy Carter, Al Gore, Cindy Sheenan, and all of those other people who just won’t go away.

When you really need to end a war, Who would you look for?. Bob Hope?..nope. He was an American patriot. Che Guevera? Already taken. Cindy Sheehan? She and her smelly friends are still in my basement! Ewww. Get the a@@hole who lied and distorted the Vietnam war from start to finish. there ya go!!!!

U are stupid. how can u say u are winning in iraq. millions dying, trillions of $$$. And what do u get, more enemies. I hate your website and it should go to H E double hockysticks. u probably arent smart enough to figure out what that means. Also, how can u be so prejudice against all muslims. what has a single muslim ever done to u personally. every muslim i know is way nicer than any of my christian friends. They always have good intentions and the crazy ones in the mid east have been brought up that way. now there is a civil war there and all u do is send more young men to be killed and more $$$ to be wasted. There were no weapons of mass destruction like your evil overlord said there were, and taking out saddam led to a breakdown of power and now there are 3 nations-kurds, sunnis, and shiites all fighting for oil and land, but u still think this war is going well and you are winning. Your wrong. finally figure it out. Finally when people want to be good and stop useless wars u call them commies because they oppose pointless death. You, on the other hand, want all of the young men and women who join the military for honor and pride to die and have no good reason to die. Your "president" even said Iraq is similar to Vietnam, which, if u knew anything, you lost. I hope i didnt waste to much of your time, but i hope u got something out of this. You should send your website to iraq and have it killed there to, because it is the axis of evil. You are the ones killing your own children, not Muslims living here in the US who commit far less crimes than any other ethnicity and do not have bombs in every car, like u say. u have no reason for your beliefs and are unwilling to promote the well being of your country.

They're bringing him back to see to it that Hillary gets elected.

Posted by: BobF at November 17, 2007 07:20 AM

Of course, that's what CBS is doing.
They want a socialist in the White House so bad they can taste it.
It's funny, in WW II, if any reporter (paper or radio or tv) had done ANYTHING like this, they would have been tarred and feathered and run out on a rail.
Somehow, everything began to change during Korea and Vietnam because they weren't popular wars. One, they weren't wars--they were police actions. Two, the children who protested Vietnam were the children of those men and women who served bravely in WW II.
Plus the liberal media wants us to fail again and again and again, so we look bad to the rest of the world. America is so very bad, we are the aggressors, please punish us severely.
Somehow, I also think most reporters flunked that part of history--the difference between the political parties.

udrivenoboxster, you are one sick person and need help. I see you have the link for Mark and Brian for your website lnk. LOL Does that mean you are one of them or work for them. Or perhaps you clean up after them, I have no idea. Maybe you are a talk show wanna be not sure.

Whatever, you said what you wanted to say, I guess now you can go join the ranks of the other traitors to our country that hate Ameirca, do not want us to be the land of the free and prefer to cater to those that want to kill us and destroy our country.

You are pathetic.

Bob I hadn't thought of that, bet your right.

Posted by: Wild Thing at November 17, 2007 09:46 AM

Lynn, yes your right. I really can't stand this guy he is soooooooooo bad.

Posted by: Wild Thing at November 17, 2007 09:47 AM

That is the worst picture of cronkite I have ever seen, he looks like death warmed over, or heated up with the left overs.

I guess that is why they call it pancake make up the older you get the more u have to use.

The big question is will they be able to keep him awake long enough to recite his part, or even remember what he is supposed to say.

CBS is really desparate to dig him up.

Mark haha ...left overs hahahaha ....he does look like that, death warmed over.

"Dig him up" is right Mark.

Comrad Cronkite made an awful lot of noise about the My Lai (Son My) massacre, ostensibly it was done it in anger by Lt. William Calley's, Charlie Company, 11th Brigade, Americal Division troops, (which resulted in the slaughter of hundreds), that and several other smaller atrocities or alleged atrocities by Allied forces.

Arseholes like Cronkite pretend that the Viet Cong or North Vietnamese were clean as a whistle, and not one word is spent talking about them. They focus only on atrocities committed by American soldiers. I don't pretend to know what Comrad Cronkite saw in Hue during Tet '68, I wasn't there, only later did I visit the city and for damned sure he didn't get it right.

What is never mentioned are the well known atrocities against thousands of Vietnamese civilians committed by the NVA-VC. The largest single event atrocities committed during the Vietnam war inside Vietnam were either the Hue massacre of 1968 , carried out by the NVA-VC. Or the NVA shelling and machine gunning of civilians escaping from Quang Tri during the NVA Easter Offensive of 1972, or the NVA shelling of thousands of civilians in the columns of soldiers and mostly civilians fleeing the highlands in 1975.

When the Communist North Vietnamese retreated after being defeated in the battle for Hue that ended Feb. 24, 1968, they took with them over 3,500 South Vietnamese POWs, soldiers, civil servants as well as their wives and children, including three German Doctors working at the University of Hue. All were systematically murdered and buried – 20 to 40 bodies to a grave.

The bodies showed clear evidence of atrocity killings: groups of bodies tied together, each with hands wired or tied with bamboo strips behind backs, rags stuffed in mouths or plastic bags tied over their heads, with many of the bodies contorted but without wounds (indicating being buried alive). What does Walter tell Lyndon Johnson? "the war is lost".
Two of those responsible for Hue 1968, then Defense Minister General Vo Nguyen Giap, and then regional commander Tran Van Quang were, last time I checked, Giap was still alive in Hanoi, Quang died in 1996.

Giap was also Defense Minister in 1972 and 1975, but less actively involved in policy in 1975. Unfortunately interviewing these comrades on these sensitive matters is hardly likely to be very illuminating. As loyal party men they will deny that the slaughter of civilians by Communists ever happened, one official Hanoi line on the Hue massacres is that "the people" did it in anger. That excuse sounds familiar, eh?

There were many other atrocities of merely My Lai proportions committed by the NVA-VC -- such as the flame thrower extermination of hundreds of Montagnard women and children at Dak Son in 1967 , and the slaughters at Duc Duc.

Where is the condemnation by the United Nations? What about that hallowed piece of shit, The World Court at the Hague and an investigation into these murders? Where were the likes of Murtha, Reid and Pelosi during this time frame? Certainly numb nuts like Ted Kennedy and John Kerry have been in office long enough to raise the questions of accountability, or will that expose their culpability?

While we as a nation can hold our own accountable before the world, take the word of lying terrorists over that of our own soldiers and openly condemn them before the world during an ongoing war exhibits just how far we have slid as a society.

The left will never challenge nor force accountability of their own. None of these butchers were brought to trial on crimes against humanity but that is the way Communists and their sympathizers operate, murder is their trademark. CBS is goig to bring back the worst of the worst to lie to the pliable American public some more as they twist history to fit their legacy. They revere the Communist despots and butchers as heroes whether they be Mao, Ho Chi Minh, Pol Pot, Lon Nol or Josef Stalin, as long as they are Communists they get a free pass.

WT, something nasty above fell from beneath a camel's tail, it splattered a bit, perhaps it is one of those 72 virgins we keep hearing about.:)
