I grew up watching The Tonight Show with Steve Allen, then Carson. Johnny was the master of impromptu comedy and second only to James Finlayson (the bald headed guy with the walrus mustache in the Laurel and Hardy films) in doing the double take and slow burn into the camera. I'm sure you know what that is, Chrissie, being around the industry. I can't tell you how many nights I went to sleep with a stomach ache from laughing at Johnny and some of his wild stunts. On the flip side, he could carry a nervous guest and make them look like season vet, even letting them look like they were getting the best of him, when he was actually orchestrating the whole thing. Today's talk show hosts could learn a lot from watching him and paying attention. A true master. Thanks for sharing this.
