Harry Pouter and the Never Ending Night of Doom

Reid Threatens to Keep Senate Up All Night, Republicans Yawn

WASHINGTON

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has threatened to keep the Senate awake all night Tuesday to protest GOP blocking tactics on moves to compel U.S. troop withdrawals from Iraq.

Senate Republican leaders, alerted to Reid's plans on Monday, said they have the votes to keep the president's surge policy in place, at least for now, and called Reid's up-all-night gambit a stunt that wouldn't change any minds.

Senior Democratic leadershp aides said that Reid was planning a Tuesday all-nighter — complete with roll-away beds — to draw public attention to GOP demands that any changes to Iraq policy carry a 60-vote majority.

"Is this a publicity stunt? Yes," a senior Democratic aide told FOX News. "This is the only way we know to highlight their complete ignorance of the will of the people!"

Republicans said they've applied that standard for months on Iraq policy changes and aren't about the change now, especially when recent GOP defections have given Democrats bipartisan majorities on troop drawdowns and other policy changes.

Wild Thing's comment..............

Just hope we don’t see the Swimmer in his jammies. Will he sneak a flask into his pillow?

I can see it now, Harry Reid trying to force Robert Byrd to stay up after 9:00pm.

"This is the only way we know to highlight their complete ignorance of the will of the people!"

Every time the Democrats don't get their way they stamp their foot and whine "Will of the people!"

I think the Republicans should bring decks of cards, snacks and board games. Turn it into a party. heh heh

How many will sneak out to do something stupid?
It's a Washington Pajama Party!
Oh Goodie!
Will there be snacks and a movie?
Can they play spin the bottle and doctor or true or dare?
How about ghost stories?
Will his pjs have bunny feet and a trap door in the back?
Will Hillary whisper sweet nothings in Obama's ear?

OMG Spin the bottle,,, but Barney Frank won't be there. Oh I forgot Boxer and Feinstein will be there will they have co-ed sleeping arrangement ? Or will BB have to share a 'rack' with Toad Kennedy.

A typical Democrat Dog and Pony Show. All symbolism and no substance.

Whose parents are going to chaperone this event?
Does Reid even have any parents? Or is he just another biological manifestation from the "X-files"?
Who is bringing the crowbar to keep Pelosi and Reid separated?
Inquiring minds want to know.

Can you imagine all the pillow talk. Will the bed wetters be able to hide it??

Really, sometimes I wonder if the DC after Washington means Day Care center. We elect some of the most childish people on earth.

I thought the past 7 months have been a sleep in for Congress, now it's official. We should be getting used to the antics of the do nothing party, they've had the past 6 years of practice at obstructing any progress and tipping off our enemies. Nice nightie there Harry, covers up the longjohns quite well, that must be the candle from Searchlight, it's the dimwit who's holding it that's in the glare.

No one seems to be talking about when the Democrats used the filibuster to delay and/or block ten of Bush's highly qualified judicial candidates to the federal appeals court. Some even withdrew due to the multiyear delays and malicious personal attacks. That's when the the Democrats were proclaiming the virtues of the filibuster knowing that the feckless Republicans wouldn't embarass them into all night sessions. If the Republicans had the cajones to force the Democrats into a real filibuster maybe we wouldn't have lost some of these excellent judges from being promoted to the federal appeals court.

I won't hold my breath, but the best filibuster the Republicans can do now would be to read actual letters and emails from the troops in Iraq explaining how damaging and vulnerable the Democrats surrender plan will be to their mission and lives.

WT, maybe you and your readers and friends have access to and could forward some of these letters and emails to the Republican senators to read on the Senate floor.

If these people would spend as much time supporting the WOT as they spend on trying to get 'Bush' the damn war would have ended 2 1/2 years ago.

They keep screwing the country, trying to get Bush, this is their sole goal.

A lot of republicans and many many conservatives have lost all faith in Bush, if they need to be reminded Bush will be gone in about 18 months. Yet getting Bush is their priority.

These democrats have no scrupples or any leadership they too don't deserve to serve in congress. And the sooner they too are gone the better.

Lynn, hahahaha what you said about ghost stores reminded me of when we were kids and would tell ghost stories and hold a flashlight under our chin while we sat in the dark.

Mark, yikes Barney Frank now that is scary.

Tom they are childish, Reid to even say to stay all night to do something against our troops is nuts and shows how much he hates Bush and our military.

Posted by: Wild Thing at July 17, 2007 10:48 PM

Jack, hahaha good one. I had forgotten about Searchlight. heh heh
