After Amnesty Bill Failed ~ Democrats Still Trying To woo Hispanics

Democrats woo Hispanics with immigration reform

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Florida (Reuters) - Democratic presidential candidates wooed Hispanic voters on Saturday with pledges to keep working for immigration laws that would allow more of those already in the United States to become citizens and voters.

Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama and five other Democrats spoke to the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials two days after the U.S.

The association had supported the proposal and the candidates said they would keep working for a better version that weighed the contributions of immigrants as heavily as the need for border security.

"I want my daughters to be raised in a community in which all people, and not just some, are considered part of the American family," said Obama.

Hillary said the United States must find a way to tighten border security while giving undocumented workers a sensible way to become legal workers even if they lack the high-tech skills favored for visa applications.

"Many of us had relatives who came to this country without skills but have made a great contribution to themselves and their families and we're proud of them and we want to give more people that chance going forward," Clinton said.
Sen. Chris Dodd of Connecticut characterized the recent immigration debate as a race to see "who out there can be the most anti-Hispanic." Hispanics are the largest and fastest-growing ethnic minority in the United States and make up about 15 percent of the population.

All four Democratic candidates in the Senate -- Clinton, Obama, Dodd and Joe Biden of Delaware -- voted to advance the now-failed immigration proposal.

New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson drew cheers when he told the crowd in Spanish, "You are my family!" and joked he should be allotted more time to speak because he was the only Hispanic presidential candidate.

John Edwards, the Democrats' 2004 vice presidential nominee, called the border fence "crazy" and said he did not want to live in an "America that is made up of first class citizens and second class workers."

Wild Thing's comment.........

.... With the shameless and treasonous $HAMNE$TY BILL defeated by WE THE PEOPLE, soon, we'll again rally, unite and lock 'n load for:
*** FRED THOMPSON & RUDY GIULIANI IN 2008 ***
Please remember that 144-years ago today Gen. Lee's 75,000 rebs and Gen. Meade's 97,000 yanks squared off in Adams County Pennsylvania - GETTYSBURG, where 51,000 Americans in blue & gray fell fighting for freedom on American soil!
God bless the Union & Dixie forever!!

It is EXTREMELY shameful. Pandering ought to outlawed.
But Obama forgets one thing. Everyone in this nation is accepted, if they are here legally.
Amnesty for these illegal, poorly skilled workers is just going to hurt us further.
It also spits in the eye of every American from somewhere else who did come here legally. How are they going to feel?
I choose Fred Thompson and Duncan Hunter in 2008.
We need strong leadership who will stop at nothing to enforce the existing laws and shut down this invasion.
And if the farmers and labor factory managers thing Americans won't do those jobs, there are plenty of young men and women who have been denied those jobs on the grounds they don't speak spanish. I've lost several promotions at work because management has the feeling that "bilingual is what we need right now." So the Mexican Mafia runs loose in the office and us white folks have to labor away at the same old job over and over again.
Under Obama's America, the white folks will NOT be equal.
He isn't thinking straight and neither is Hillary.
It just makes me sick.

The word Illegal is defined in the American Heritage College Dictionary :1. Prohibited by law. 2> Prohibited by official rules. 3. Unacceptable.......Ok now all you sickening politicians who want to sell this country down the garden path for your own gain, open up your dictionarys.........how hard is common sense? Stop border crossing and let them come in the legal way, same as the rest of the immigrants from all over the world. Punish big business they are as greedy as the rats in Washington!

I would think that Jesse Jackson and Brother Al's,'travelin' Salvation show' Sharpton, would be the most irate of all. Aren't they the leaders of our first place 'victim class', soon to be replace as second or third on the 'to do' list for extra money ?

With O'bama and Hillary pandering for the Illegal vote, Al and Jesse have got to be seriously wondering, Hey, where do we stand in this ?

This might very well come back to bite, O'bama and Hillary. If these soon to be 2nd place constituents look at this and consider the progress that has NOT been made by voting for the Donks for the past 40 years and now they are to be replaced by a new group of 'Victims', Illegals, this could be very interesting how these two dem candidates are going to balance their rhetoric on who is more important but better who will get the larger share of the welfare pie.

Off topic, re: Darth's reference to the 1st day at Gettysburg, a little explored fact is that when the battle began there were about 2400 residents living in and around Gettysburg, in three days of the battle, as Darth points our, there were 50,000 casualties.

Now you have 2400 residents, and 50,000 Dead, wounded all around the town plus dead animals. How as a community do you deal with this.

However, they did, it got done. If we fast forward 144 years and had this happened in say, New Orleans the press would have had a field day, complaining how badly the Lincoln administration has handled this mess.

We are worried about how to divi up the welfare pie to make two indigent groups happy, who by the way were created by Johnson's Great Society, so they will vote for democrat or republican, what ever happened to self reliance.

After Katrina, the people of NO did nothing but complain about how bad the situation was, and they were right, but what did THEY as a group try to do to fix it. They got a credit cards from FEMA and spent that on drugs, women and other unessential items instead of taking care of their families. The Administration promised Billions of dollars, and what got rebuilt, the Superdome.

I think we have lost our way.

To the Dem candidates; the "legal citizens" of America spoke loudly against the flawed immigration bill. Stop pandering to worthless special interest groups. As Mark points out, the dems will immediately switch alliances with whatever minority group will provide the best potential block of votes.

The Repubs should be in good shape going into '08. The Dems are cting so very stupid and they are quite divisive. Before the primary season is over thet may really tear into each other. The Repubs have to refrain from attacking, each other or the Dems. They also have to worry somewhat about what Bush may do his last few months in office. He, and his administration, appear to be to be coming apart rtionally.

My choice would be Hunter and I have an open mind and optimism for Fred Thompson. I just don't know enough about him yet. He may turn out to be the great rallying point for repubs and Reagan Dems.

Darth, we wono this last battle but the war on this is not over. I don't know what the future holds on this, but I pray every day they follow our existing laws and do it in the strongest way possible.

Lynn, I am so sorry that has happened to you at work. It is so frustrating and totally unfair too to when promotions at work are lost because of this. grrrrrrrrrrrr

Darlene, I bet they would have to be paid to open the dictionary to even read what it means.

Thanks Darlene.
