Springtime in Islamberg In Upper New York

Situated within a dense forest at the foothills of the Catskill Mountains on the outskirts of Hancock, New York, Islamberg is not an ideal place for a summer vacation unless, of course, you are an exponent of the Jihad or a fan of Osama bin Laden.

The 70 acre complex is surrounded with "No trespassing" signs; the rocky terrain is infested with rattlesnakes; and the woods are home to black bears, coyotes, wolves, and a few bobcats.

Before becoming a citizen of Islamberg or any of the other Fuqra compounds, the recruits - - primarily inner city black men who became converts in prison - - are compelled to sign an oath that reads:

"I shall always hear and obey, and whenever given the command, I shall readily fight for Allah's sake."

Islamberg is not an ideal place for a summer vacation unless, of course, you are an exponent of the Jihad or a fan of Osama bin Laden.

The sentry, at the time of this visit, is an African American dressed in Islamic garb - - a skull cap, a prayer shawl, and a loose fitting shalwat kameez. He instructs us to turn around and leave.

"Our community is not open to visitors," he says. Behind the sentry and across a small stream stand dozens of inhabitants of the compound - - the men wearing skull caps and loose fitting tunics, the women in full burqa.

More excerpts...

“Nearly every weekend, neighbors hear sounds of gunfire. Some, including a combat veteran of the Vietnam War, have heard the bang of small explosives.”
“Over the years, numerous members of Jamaat ul-Fuqra have been convicted in US courts of such crimes as conspiracy to commit murder, firebombing, gun smuggling, and workers’ compensation fraud. Others remain leading suspects in criminal cases throughout the country, including ten unsolved assassinations and seventeen fire-bombings between 1979 and 1990.”
“By 2004 federal investigators uncovered evidence that linked both the DC “sniper killer” John Allen Muhammed and “Shoe Bomber” Richard Reid to the group and reports surfaced that Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl was captured and beheaded in the process of attempting to obtain an interview with Sheikh Gilani in Pakistan.”
“Even though Jamaat ul-Fuqra has been involved in terror attacks and sundry criminal activities, recruited thousands of members from federal and state penal systems, and appears to be operating paramilitary facilities for militant Muslims, it remains to be placed on the official US Terror Watch List. On the contrary, it continues to operate, flourish, and expand as a legitimate nonprofit, tax-deductible charity.”

Wild Thing's comment........

I also bet they are protected by the ACLU and CAIR. I wonder how many willing jihadis and muslim murderers in the US just waiting for their fatwa to be issued. Scary to think about.

This is crazy. I know they have the right to freedom of religion, but they take it too far.

Dont worry, im sure that both state and federal authorities are eagerly awaiting their chance to arrest and lock up a few of its more influencial operators. They are probably just waiting until they have enough evidence to make the strongest possible case.

I dont think its possible for the government to just declare the place must be shut down - and indeed they shouldn't have that power. But it must have people running it, and charges can be bought against them on something.

Unfortunately, Suricou Raven is correct. Without probably cause, the government just can't go in and shut them down because shooting guns on your own property isn't illegal. Even blowing things us isn't illegal as many rural farmers use dynamite to blow stumps all the time. The Islamic terrorists are using our own freedoms against us and they've got CAIR and the ACLU to ensure they do so unmolested.

Posted by: BobF at May 13, 2007 08:29 AM

And what would you propose doing? Abandoning those freedoms? What is the point of having a constitution that ensures people have those freedoms if an exception is declared every time it seems convenient?

Or do those freedoms just not apply to people who you deem undeserving?

No, better to let the state and federal authorities do their thing - keep watching. Wait. Collect evidence. When there is enough evidence to have a solid case, take action. The action perhaps involving the arrest of the more prominent of the owners and preechers.

There have been precidents but they're not white supremacists and Janet Reno is disposed. If displaced where would they go? Detroit is a sanctuary city, they would fit in well there.

We are at war, a universal war in which the enemy has demanded unconditional surrender. Enemy military actions have already taken place on American home soil. In war some freedoms have to be compromised, especially when it comes to the enemy.

You are an idealist Suricou. In time of war idealism can be suicidal. Go to Iran and preach that idealism and see the response you get.

I don't have much use for these folks but on the news the other night they said the membership
in the KKK and others of the same beliefs
have gone up 400% since 9/11...

We've got JF here in Virginia, too, in the Charlottesville area.

Recently the group managed to get the town of Redhouse to name one of the streets Gilani. ARRGGGHHH!!!

More details about JF on the left sidebar of Gates of Vienna.

Darth, thanks, good one.

Lynn, exactly they use our Freedom as a tool for their benefit.

Posted by: Wild Thing at May 13, 2007 10:47 PM

Suricou Raven there is one thing we need to realize. We are at war, at war with Islam. So wherever the enemy is, we should have the right to do what has to be done.

Posted by: Wild Thing at May 13, 2007 10:50 PM

Bob your right, this would have to be done very carefully. And my hope is our government is working on it, at least keeping an Eagle eye on the place from within. But even so we have been attacked on our soil so that should count for something in needing to defend ourself. I hope it counts. Yikes

Posted by: Wild Thing at May 13, 2007 10:51 PM

Suricou Raven, your second comment to answer is of course not.
We have to be very careful, so that whatever is done does not backfire. I would guess they are doing a lot of watch and wait with that place.

But again Suricou Raven they attacked us first the followers of Islam and on our own soil. There is that as well to consider.

Posted by: Wild Thing at May 13, 2007 10:53 PM

Jack, I was wondering how many are illegals even.

Posted by: Wild Thing at May 13, 2007 10:54 PM

Tom I agree, Islamics have attacked us first, on our soil. That has to count for something.

Posted by: Wild Thing at May 13, 2007 11:01 PM

Tincan Sailor, wow that is amazing. I agree with you about the KKK, but that is very interesting.

Always On Watch, thank you so much for the link and information.

I dislike islamists as much as anyone here - remember its my country that is facing the greater threat right now. But I just think that there are ways to counter them that dont involve violation of constitutional freedoms. Its just not acceptable to close down a camp and arrest its members because they 'look like' terrorists. The rules must be followed: First grounds for suspicion, and then an investigation, and finally when there is sufficient evidence to make a solid case its time to start making arrests.

And as for the 'Its war!' panic... does this mean that the constitution must be abandoned? Even if it is a war - and its not really a conventional war, this is something for which there is little precident - there are still rules that must be followed. You cant just kill enemy civilians for one - you need to show that they were involved in or planning an attack.
