Woman Spits in Soldier's Face

Syracuse radio station WFBL reports that Lauren Maggi, 35, of Thurber Street was charged with harassment for spitting in a soldier's face at Hancock Airport.

The incident happened over the Thanksgiving holiday. Maggi approached a soldier from the 10th Mountain Division, who apparently was not in uniform, and asked if he was a soldier. When he said yes, Maggi allegedly spit in his face.

WFBL's news service is supplied by television station WTVH, which has nothing posted yet about the incident on its website. Syracuse.com carries this blurb:

• Woman accused of spitting on soldier A Syracuse woman was charged after a Fort Drum soldier accused her of spitting on him without provocation at Hancock Airport, Syracuse police said.

On January 18 of this year, Lauren Maggi, 34, of Thurber Street, was charged with endangering the welfare of a child.

Someone tell me again about how the Left supports the troops, but not their mission.

Update: More details

Jason Jones, 21, told police a woman he did not know walked up to him near the United Airlines ticket counter, asked him if he was a Fort Drum solider and, when he responded that he was, spat in his face.

Police searched the airport garage and located a woman fitting the description that Jones provided, who was later identified as Maggi. Police escorted her into the terminal, where Jones identified her as the woman who had spit on him. A second soldier on the scene supported Jones' accusation, police said.

Maggi offered no explanation for her conduct, police said. She could not be reached for comment Thursday night.

And then there is also this on the woman.

Syracuse Police Endangering the welfare of a child Lauren Maggi,34, of 256 Thurber St., Syracuse, Jan. 18. Charged at 256 Thurber St., Syracuse.

Wild Thing's comment......

This is an outrage that brave American soldiers have suffered, sacrified and died....for over 200 years...so that the sorry-assed likes of this loser could have the freedom to behave like this. I cannot comprehend, at all, people like this.

I wish with all my heart they would punish her.

Comments

Words escape me in trying to describe the anger and frustration I have for the Left. All that said words escape me for the love and respect that should be offered to those who now wear and have worn the uniform.

May saliva be the condiment on every hamburger this woman ever eats.

It looks like Lauren Maggi is a Masterpiece of Depravity, the product of inferior breeding.

What should have happened is that soldier should have made his hand into a fist and planted it right in her face. Fortunately for her, the soldier is a gentleman and far superior to her in every way.

Who raised this woman? Wolves?
You don't go spitting in anyone's face--it's immature, nasty, rude and very uncouth. I'd probably have smacked her upside her fool head had she done that to me. And she would have deserved it.
I guess she didn't learn right from wrong very well, did she?
Her parents must be so proud!

Luckily in this war, so far, this despicable action is the exception rather than common practice. Most Americans , even those adamently opposed to the war, are treating our soldiers with great respect.

At the Dallas/Ft Worth Airport, all flights bringing soldiers back for 2 week R&R/leaves are met by throngs of greeters and well wishers.

My hope is that America learned well from her sometimes vile treatment of Vietnam veterans. As one of those men, I can now say that I have been welcomed back home by many, many Americans from much younger folks as well as people of my generation who have realized the error of their antagonism 35 years ago.

Sierrahome I feel the same way, my anger is so huge at that woman, and at the same time my respect and appreciation is tremendous for those in uniform.

Thank you Sierrahome.

Bob I agree and I would have cheered him on if I had been standing there.

Lynn, I know what you mean. I bet her parents might even be like her as well, who knows. So many times this kind of hippie mentality runs in the family.

Posted by: Wild Thing at December 10, 2006 01:30 PM

Tincan Sailor I hope that do that.

Tom that is fantastic about the Dallas/Ft Worth Airport.

I just hope this is a one time thing we hear about. This kind of anger I have about things like what that woman did is beyond words.

Things like this happened alot more frequently with hippies and vietnam soldiers.
My dad got spit on.
I got congratulated.
This world is crazy.

This brings back vivid memories, these are the types that bring out the worst in me. I and my fellow veterans were treated this way, not only in the airports but at all other venues of transportation as well. Back then soldiers and sailors travelled in uniform either to or from military posts on civilian transport at discount rates set up by contract to cut expenses for the DOD. The stipulation was in order to get the issued discounted rate you had to be in uniform. The troops had little say in the matter, they could pay the full un-reimbursed rate out of pocket to travel in civies or travel in dress uniform. We were usually, like I was, under orders not to retaliate. Those days are long gone for me and I'd just as soon put a bayonet in the brisket of anyone who disrespects out troops that way. As for this bitch, remove her filthy tongue, I hope she gets sent away where her fellow inmates can teach her a little respect.

I do not agree with what this woman did either, but do not use her to justify your hatred for the left. Her actions and opinions are not representative of the majority. There are bad eggs everywhere.

Huh, what am I doing here. I'm from the UK. :D

MattCoops, yes the world is crazy. I am very glad that you were congratulated. And I am sorry your Dad was treated like this soldier was.

Posted by: Wild Thing at December 10, 2006 11:15 PM

Jack, that woman is not going to change, not even if she was fined or had to spend some time in jail. She is a worthless piece of humanity imo.

Posted by: Wild Thing at December 10, 2006 11:19 PM

Well Jamie, I am glad you don't agree with what the woman did to the soldier.

But your other comments are curious indeed......
"but do not use her to justify your hatred for the left."

First I don't have to justfiy how I feel about the left, the left shows the entire world on a daily basis why they are the enemy within our country, the USA.

Your next statement..."Her actions and opinions are not representative of the majority."

Unfortunately they do represent the majority of the left and how they feel and think.

Maybe you missed the anti-war protesters that held up huge signs saying to our soldiers to kill their officers and many other vile signs and chants they did.

No Jamie, sorry but you are big time wrong, the left is destroying our country, they are working over time to try and get more of our troops injured and killed and they most certainly are the enemy within.

How odd though that you feel that being from the UK you can't comment here. Hahahaha People comment here from all over the world, including Iran, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, UK, Canada,France, Switzerland, Germany, the list very long.

And there are a lot of wonderful soldiers from the UK that are serving along side our awesome troops from the USA.

Let that piece of trash try that in Tampa. Be the worst beatin' of her life. *ptooi*

I'm sorry but I didn't see a "D" or a "R" after her name how do you know if she is a lib? Oh yeah I forgot your shepherd El Rushbo the draft dodger told you so. check snopes.com (excuse me draft evader. When does it become draft dodger?)

Posted by: Dana at December 12, 2006 01:19 PM

How do you even know this woman is a lib?

Isn't it possible she has some history with this man, recognized him, but wasn't positive, so she asked him if he was a soldier. His answer confirmed her suspicions. Perhaps he's a poor tipper or he groped her at a strip club. Who knows?

To me that seems a lot more plausible than walking up to some random man (not in uniform) to ask him if he's a soldier.

If she wanted to make a statement she would have found a uniformed soldier to spit on.

Regardless, without more info no one can truly say what was going on in her head.

Good try at using an isolated incident to characterize an entire group, though.

BTW, Isn't that what you are upset with the left over? As you see it - They use the torture at Abu Ghraib to characterize all soldiers as evil.
